Which is better, NMIMS HR or SCMHRD-MBA in Business Analytics?

BT
Bhaskar Trivedi Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
MBA from SVKM's NMIMS, graduated in 2019

Someone I know who is an alumnus of SCMHRD has said that finding out which college is better will bear little to no fruits.

You can get in touch with the professionals from both programs and try to understand what you will have to do in order to make a name for yourself. An internal analysis is involved after which it is gauged what field would be the most suitable for you.

NMIMS is popular for producing marketing professionals. Finance is also popular in the institute. Analytics is not the flagship course of SCMHRD. They are very different courses and your temperament and aptitude are also contributing factors.

Which course is better, an MSc. in finance from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management, Mumbai, or NMIMS, Mumbai or MSc. in financial engineering from IFMR, Chennai?

AK
Apoorva Katnik Posted On : March 14th, 2023
MBA from NMIMS,Mumbai

If you are considering pursuing a Master of Science (M Sc) degree from NMIMS, it is important to do some further research on the recognition of the degree. However, an MBA from their Mumbai campus can be a good option to consider.

On the other hand, IFMR offers only MBA and Ph.D. programs, so it is not possible to pursue an M.Sc from there. As for JBIMS, it is the most prestigious institution in Mumbai, but there have been some concerns raised about the accuracy of their placement salary data. Additionally, the selection process for their M Sc course is quite competitive, with only 30 seats available for the program and a large number of candidates competing for those spots.

Considering your interest in finance, it would be beneficial to aim for admission to a top-notch business school like XLRI, which is renowned for its finance program. Another option would be to gain experience in the industry and pursue a finance course such as CFA or FRM, which would make you eligible for admission to world-renowned business schools such as the Indian School of Business.

What are the chances of getting a call from NMIMS Mumbai or Hyderabad with 170 score & 2 years of work experience as well as a postgraduate degree in Commerce?

SR
Sarmistha Dutta Ray Posted On : June 24th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

NMIMS Mumbai and Hyderabad are both on the high cut-off list due to their popular demand.

  • Looking at previous data from a few years back NMIMS Mumbai accepted students with scores of 190 and NMIMS Hyderabad accepted students with scores of 170.
  • But due to the heavy competition and demand of Mumbai and Hyderabad, the cut off has risen with time.
  • The previous year’s records state that the cut-off for NMIMS Mumbai was 207 to around 212.
  • The cutoff for NMIMS Hyderabad was around 190.

Both of the cut off exceed the score you have mentioned in the question. Moreover, NMIMS does not consider work experience if the score is below the cut-off. It only accepts work experience if they cleared the cut-off. It is kept as the second criteria.

Considering my credentials, can I get a call from any of these colleges, IIMs, FMS, XLRI or NMIMS, MICA, TAPMI, or SIBM?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : April 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Colleges may call depending on numerous variables. IIMs rarely call candidates without a 95+ percentile. IIMs exclusively accept top academic and overall candidates. Other colleges like FMS, XL, SPJIMR, and MDI assess the candidate's whole profile, giving them a little edge. These institutions consider work experience, extracurriculars, and leadership skills in addition to academic performance.

Even after being accepted to a top college, a candidate's academic performance may affect their placements, which could damage their job chances. The only thing candidates can control is their CAT/XAT score. So they should try their best and then decide.

Many big names in the Industry take part in NMIMS Mumbai placements. Infosys, Accenture, Aditya Birla Capital, etc. took part in the 2022 placement drive.
