Is Thapar University worth the fees charged?
As mentioned in the answers before mine, it depends mainly on how well you utilize these years. Engineering is a tiring course because of the constant pressure from tests, assignments, projects, and finally, the end sem exams.
Electronics is a good branch at Thapar University. The projects, assignments, classroom lectures and lab sessions involved in it are industry oriented and practical in nature. The Chemical Engineering curriculum is also quite relatable as many of the topics are touched upon during +1 and +2.
Moreover, the Chemical department hosts student exchange programs. Through that, the students go for a 5-8 week long training to countries like Russia, Bulgaria and China. Over there, they are engaged in designing research papers, and attending summits/conferences related to the Chemical industry. The student exchange program is an excellent opportunity to grab long term internships with foreign institutes, and to work on great projects.
Overall, Thapar University is worth the high fees. If you get a chance to study at Thapar, make the most of it.
What is the scope of electronics and computer engineering offered at Thapar University?
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, established in 1956 is ranked 29th by NIRF, amongst the top engineering colleges in India. Keeping in view the increasing demand for the skills in electronics and computer science, Thapar introduced the Electronics and Computer Engineering branch a few years back in association with Trinity College, Dublin.
Course Structure:
- Embedded systems, Signal Processing, Communication Systems with the blend of Operating systems, Machine learning, computer networks, and algorithm design and analysis are the subjects covered in the course curriculum.

There are many people who don’t visit their homes during the weekends. Here is a curated list of exciting things they can do to make their weekends fun

How is Thapar University for CSE?
Thapar University offers BE in Computer Engineering (COE) and Computer Science Engineering (CSE). According to some of my friends studying there, COE is a better course than CSE. So, I would be sharing some facts about COE, which might be helpful for you.
- The highest package a COE student has received until this point ranged at 39 LPA.
- The average package stood at around 10 to 11 LPA.
- However, you have to master the course and the technical domains that you are pursuing, without which you cannot secure good placement offers.
- In a nutshell, the average salary package in every department is around INR 6 LPA - INR 7 LPA. So for COE, it is better.
- You will sit in the placement drive alongside the 4th year students.
- If you can ace the interview session, even if the package is slightly lower than usual, then you will have the open option to secure a good position later in your career.

Having said that, the placement percentage at Thapar University usually ranges up to 100% for the COE department. That means, the placement offer is not a very big issue when considered separately. However, in terms of the package, the offer ranging from INR 14 LPA to INR 15 LPA is extremely difficult. Most essentially, you will have to master the technical domain.
Is COE at Thapar University really good? Are there opportunities for internships?
COE is one of the best branches of Thapar University offering a plethora of job opportunities and exposure to students. Sparing a few professors, the department is blessed with some of the best faculty members.
The internship scenario specifically is great for this branch and one of my friends at Thapar University told me that 5 of his batchmates received internship offers from Microsoft IT. Other companies offering internship offers included Expedia, Snapdeal, Royal Bank of Scotland, ARM, etc. The students received stipends in the range of 20-40k per month. Most of these companies offer PPOs to their students.
Additionally, the research internships are great. One of my friends had the opportunity to intern at IIT Roorkee after his 2nd year. Many others got selected at IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, Kanpur, Guwahati, Ropar, Gandhinagar, Mandi, etc. The reputation of Thapar University is such that it plays a very positive role in the selection of students.
Overall, the brand value of Thapar University makes it possible for big companies to offer lucrative packages and roles.
Is chemical engineering from Thapar University a good option?
Thapar University has one of the oldest Chemical Engineering departments but now its situation is not very good.
- Core placements are very limited. Mostly companies like J.PMorgan and ET medial-abs recruit students from these branches.
- Over the past few years, Thapar University has been solely focusing on its CS department as a result of which the other branches are suffering drastically.
- The curriculum of Chemical Engineering at Thapar University is obsolete and irrelevant to the industry trends.
- Thapar University is increasing the fees every year so people with financial constraints should reconsider.
- The professors are average and not what you expected
- The chemical engineering students have long study hours around 30 hrs/week.
I will suggest you to go some other institute preferably a NIT that charges less fees and offers better opportunities.
Which is better: BIT Mesra CSE or Thapar CSE?
Although both institutes offer a fairly good CSE program, Thapar University seems to give a little edge to BIT Mesra in terms of research culture and opportunities.
- Thapar is an excellent choice for research enthusiasts as it has excellent research facilities, projects, and professors that encourage research work passionately
- Thapar University has one of the best campuses among the private engineering colleges thereby offering a dynamic campus life.
- Thapar University students organize amazing events at a huge level. It conducts India's biggest Food Festival, one of the biggest Techno-cultural festivals, and one of the best Sports festivals in the country.
- Thapar is a fun place to be for party lovers as it has amazing parties throughout the year.
Overall, choosing Thapar University over BIT Mesra will offer an abundance of opportunities.
What score is required for admission in CSE in Thapar University being an SC candidate outside Punjab?
To get admission to the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) as an SC candidate from outside Punjab, you will need to meet the following requirements:
- You should have a valid JEE Main score or a valid score in the Thapar Entrance Exam (TEET) conducted by the university.
- The cutoff score for admission varies each year, depending on factors such as the number of applicants, the difficulty level of the entrance exam, and the availability of seats.
- As an SC candidate, you will be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in the minimum qualifying marks for admission.
- In addition to the entrance exam score, your academic performance in Class 12th will also be considered.
- The minimum eligibility criteria for admission to the CSE program at TIET is 60% marks in Class 12th with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subjects.
Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee admission, as the final selection will depend on the availability of seats and your performance in the entrance exam and other selection rounds (if any).
Is it better to pursue a BTech in BIT Mesra or in Thapar University, Patiala?
It’s better to pursue a BTech in BIT Mesra than at Thapar University owing to a number of reasons
- BIT Mesra has no Management Quota so the quality of the crowd is much better than at Thapar University where any kind of student can get admission by just paying money.
- Single rooms are provided for second-year boys which gives them a high level of privacy.
- The CSE branch here is very competitive and students work hard to stay at the top.
- BIT Mesra is well-known for its excellent coding culture and almost all CSE and IT students are involved in coding or development.
- BIT Mesra has an excellent placement scenario and some of the top recruiters included Hashed In, Persistent Systems, Cognizant, Daffodil Software, Genpact, etc.
