What courses should I do before pursuing an MBA at IIM Sambalpur if I have an interest in finance and marketing?

SJ
Sidhharth Jain Posted On : February 13th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (Graduated 2020)

It is completely normal to have an interest in both finance and marketing, as they are both important and widely applicable areas of business. To explore your interest in finance, there are many short, introductory courses available on platforms like Udemy that can be completed at a relatively low cost, such as for no more than INR 500. Additionally, you can read basic finance books from any commerce background to gain a solid foundation in the subject. Similarly, for marketing, there are many courses available on platforms like Udemy, as well as other sites. However, it is worth considering that pursuing an MBA program with a fresh mind and an open outlook for many possibilities may be beneficial for gaining a comprehensive understanding of marketing.

In addition to gaining specialized knowledge in finance and marketing, it is also important to have a good understanding of MS Excel and Powerpoint. These skills are widely used in the business world and will be beneficial for any professional in any vertical or specialization.

What is the better option for an MBA, Symbiosis Nagpur or IMT Nagpur?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : June 11th, 2023

It depends on your personal career goal and aspiration. If you want to take Marketing as a major, then I would suggest preferring IMT Nagpur because IMT as a whole is known for its marketing program. IMT Nagpur has a lower fee in comparison to Symbiosis Nagpur.

SIBM Nagpur has a strong placement record with an average package of INR 19.5 LPA being offered to the top 10% of the batch. The IT/ITES sector emerged as the top sector for placements, with 19.4% of students being placed in this field. The 2022 placement drive included reputed companies such as Genpact, Paytm, Tata AIG, and Reliance, indicating that SIBM Nagpur has established relationships with leading recruiters.

if you are interested in pursuing MBA in IT and analytics, or if you value the reputation of the institution as a whole, then Symbiosis Nagpur may be a better fit for you.

Ultimately, it's important to do your own research and consider all the factors that are important to you, such as program offerings, faculty expertise, location, overall cost, and overall reputation.

Should I quit my job to pursue an MBA at IMT Ghaziabad?

DR
Deepti Roychowdhury Posted On : June 28th, 2021
PGDM from Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad

One of my close friends was an MBA alumnus at IMT Ghaziabad and here’s what he had to say.

Yes, you have to quit the job if you want the course regularly.

However, for an executive MBA course, you do not have to quit your job. All you have to do is just find a study center nearby and apply for it. For the executive MBA course, you can attend the classes during the weekends. Also, make sure that you are available during the examination times.

And for the regular MBA course, you have to clear the CAT examination. You can find the admission criteria on the official website of IMT Ghaziabad. The selection process is similar to IIMs.

Which is the best university for an MBA, Stanford University, Harvard University or IIM Ahmedabad?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : September 27th, 2023

By any means, IIM Ahmedabad cannot be compared to institutions like Stanford and Harvard. The explanations given below provide more than enough evidence to show that these state universities are miles ahead of IIM Ahmedabad.

  • Ranking and reputation: IIM Ahmedabad is not listed among the top management schools around the world. But, Harvard Business School ranked 2nd and Stanford University ranked 3rd among all top universities in the world in the overall category. For the third time, Stanford GSB's full-time MBA program has been ranked as the best in the world, followed by Harvard Business School.
  • World-Class Faculty: These institutions have some of the best business faculty in the world. Professors at Harvard and Stanford are not only experts in their fields but also often conduct groundbreaking research, contributing to advancements in business knowledge.
  • Scholarship and financial support: Though the fee structure of Harvard and Standford are high in comparison to IIM Ahmedabad there are various scholarships and financial aid for the meritorious student. Even the accommodation charges are also provided.
  • Strong Alumni Base: Harvard and Standford have a vast and influential alumni network that spans the globe. This network can provide valuable connections and opportunities for career advancement. Notable Indian alumni of Harvard Business School are Rahul Bajaj, (CEO of Bajaj Auto), and Rajat Gupta (former managing director of McKinsey & Company).
  • Access to Silicon Valley (Stanford) or Boston (Harvard): Stanford is located in the heart of Silicon Valley, while Harvard is situated near the thriving business hub of Boston. This proximity provides unique access to tech startups, venture capital firms, and established companies, making it easier to explore entrepreneurial ventures or engage in internships and networking opportunities.
  • Placement statistics: Harvard Business School offers an average package of 150,000 USD per annum. Whereas Standford offers 112,000 USD per annum as an average package

IIM Ahmedabad is consistently the top business school for Indians. Despite having a global reputation, many institutions are miles ahead of IIMs in terms of academics, employment prospects, chances, etc. In general, the reputation of Harvard and Stanford's MBA programs stems from their dedication to quality, innovation, and the production of graduates who have a substantial impact on both the business world and society at large.

I got admission in TAPMI. How can one make use of this two months gap in a better way so that it will be useful during or post MBA?

DP
Daksh Prajapati Posted On : May 26th, 2023
Studied at TAPMI, Manipal

These two months can be used in a better way by doing these activities.

  1. Build your resume: Summer placements begin 8–9 weeks into most B-school programs. Thus, build your resume and examine gaps to determine your focus. After starting college, you'll be swamped with tests, assignments, and more, and top companies will start coming, so you may miss important opportunities.
  2. Master Advanced Excel and Powerpoint: Most people use these programs, but you must master them. MBA courses and national case study competitions will leverage these tools.
  3. Take a Short-Term Course: Explore your interests. This course improves learning and gives you a relevant certification. Non-managers benefit greatly.
  4. Read Newspapers: GD-PI preparation likely included reading newspapers. Continue and follow the news. Future managers, follow global events. Mint, Business Standard, and Economic Times are suitable financial newspapers. Many newspapers offer student discounts.
  5. Create a LinkedIn Profile: Skip if you have a superb profile. Build one. You can consult alumni. LinkedIn offers profile-based campus editors.

Which MBA is better, IMT Ghaziabad (dual country course) or an MBA from BITSOM Mumbai?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : June 19th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Too close to call. Both are good choices to consider. On the other hand, if I have to take a call, I will most likely use BITSOM. Based on the below-mentioned reasons;

  1. Has a clear and compelling vision. aspires to be one of the best schools there is. Has aspirations on a worldwide scale.
  2. Has recruited highly qualified faculty and teams
  3. Very strongly supported
  4. Being open to making investments.

Therefore, it's possible that both will be tied in the short term, but I have a feeling that in the long run, BITSOM will pull ahead. The MBA, on the other hand, is strictly a long-term investment.
