Thapar University offers BE in Computer Engineering (COE) and Computer Science Engineering (CSE). According to some of my friends studying there, COE is a better course than CSE. So, I would be sharing some facts about COE, which might be helpful for you.

• The highest package a COE student has received until this point ranged at 39 LPA. 
• The average package stood at around 10 to 11 LPA. 
• However, you have to master the course and the technical domains that you are pursuing, without which you cannot secure good placement offers. 
• In a nutshell, the average salary package in every department is around INR 6 LPA - INR 7 LPA. So for COE, it is better.
• You will sit in the placement drive alongside the 4th year students. 
• If you can ace the interview session, even if the package is slightly lower than usual, then you will have the open option to secure a good position later in your career.

Having said that, the placement percentage at Thapar University usually ranges up to 100% for the COE department. That means, the placement offer is not a very big issue when considered separately. However, in terms of the package, the offer ranging from INR 14 LPA to INR 15 LPA is extremely difficult. Most essentially, you will have to master the technical domain.

A relative of mine used to be a student of Thapar CSE and he vouches for the course. The placement statistics for Thapar CSE are also quite good. It is also the oldest and most renowned institution in the country.

• Coming to the infrastructure of Thapar CSE, it can be said with certainty that it is one of the best in the country and has almost every facility for the students. 
• The J.Jannat Hostel is a multistoried hostel for boys and it is one of the best hostels in India with state-of-the-art facilities. It is a single-seated hostel that can accommodate as many as 858 residents. J.Jannat Hostel has 78 clusters each containing 11 rooms. 
• There are washing machines, LCD TVs, RO systems, and four sofa sets in each cluster. The clusters are further equipped with a 24*7 wifi connection for their residents for accessing high-speed internet anywhere on the premises of the hostel.
• In addition to that, the gymnasium in the hostel has all the necessary equipment. The hostel has an air-conditioned reading room for the comfort of the residents. 
• It also includes a library which has books on technology, literature, sports, etc.
• The student of the institute also performs quite well well in various Hackathons and has won laurels in the competition.

Thapar University today is recognized as one of the most renowned and successful Deemed Universities which impart technical education in the country and the best of its kind in the north-west of the country. It is a joint venture of the public and joint sector in higher technical education.

Only a few years back, Thapar University considered admissions on the basis of the JEE Mains scores and the cut-off ranged around 190 for students of the general category, and almost around 150 for students who were either from the Sc or ST category. 

In 2017, Thapar University only took admissions on the basis of the JEE Mains rank, and it ranged around 20,000. The required cutoff percentile for CSE is 85.72, according to the recent cutoff trends.

You might secure admission in the COE branch if your rank is somewhat around or slightly over 100. Other than that, you always have the option to opt for a branch change (upgradation).

You might lose interest while studying at IET as it is not as lavish as other private colleges or even like Thapar. But if you work hard enough you can reach greater heights, no matter which college you graduate from.
