The decision of choosing the course depends upon you and according to your interest. Having to know some people studying in both these colleges, I might be able to give you some facts about them.
Both the courses are equally good in terms of career. It depends upon your interest in what you want to choose; technical sector or management sector.
There are 3 main reasons why NITIE Mumbai is so underrated
Ultimately, it's the input and output which is valued by people. NITIE has quality input and output as domain expertise of Management who can do anything. So I wouldn’t consider it undervalued just not overhyped.
No, not at all. NITIE is one of the most reputed colleges in India. In fact, NITIE is a brand of its own. It is basically a government institute that falls directly under the MHRD. It has been standing tall and strong for the past 54 years.
NITIE has built tie-ups with the industry, all with the help of the several pillars on which it thrives be it Deans, Directors, Faculty, alumni, Student volunteers, and others. It has only been possible because of the trust and integrity that is shared between NITIE and its stakeholders.
One of my sisters is a former student of NITIE. She was amongst the toppers of NITIE with a pretty amazing experience after getting placed. Here’s what she had to say about her experience:
All of these factors vary from person to person. It all comes down to your skills, talents, and ability to deal with different problems.
NITIE accept GATE scores for PGDMM and PGDPM courses. The GATE cutoff for 2021 selection was as follows.
NITIE GATE Cutoff 2021 | |
Category | GATE Score |
General | 609 |
OBC | 473 |
SC | 345 |
ST | 317 |
Physically Disabled | 473 |
Students who are shortlisted based on their GATE score need to go through group discussion and personal interview for final selection.
Due to normalization, the minimum marks required vary from 65 to 72. But, the minimum GATE score that you must try to score lies between 725 to 750 marks. Here is the cutoff for 2021.
Category | GATE Cutoff |
General | 609 |
OBC | 473 |
SC | 345 |
ST | 317 |
Physically disabled | 473 |
Please take note that your admission to the institution does not wholly depend on your GATE score. In fact, a good GATE score only makes you eligible for getting shortlisted and getting a call letter for further rounds which constitute group discussion (GD) and personal interview (PI).
Before releasing the final merit list, different weights are assigned to your past academic records- 10th, 12th and undergraduate percentage, your GATE score, and your performance in the GD and PI round, and then, all these scores will be added up and an aggregate will be taken out. Thus, making it to college does not solely depend on your GATE score.
Apart from your hard work, determination, and perseverance, nothing guarantees you admission to this premier institution.
No, a gap of two years will not hamper your chances of getting into NITIE. It is a common thing, actually. Students who are preparing for competitive exams often take breaks.
Imagine you are the interviewer and you have two CVs in front of you. One CV has a gap of two years and the other one does not. It is up to you who you want to select. The general answer will be the fresher.
But it depends if a two-year gap will have any effect on getting admission. It is not the only factor that determines admission, though. If you perform well in your GATE/CAT exams, have an admirable track record in academics you will have a good chance of being selected. A good experience in work also goes a long way in solidifying your chances for admission.
You have to come up with a reason for the gap in your CV that is reasonable enough to the interviewer(s). Convince them that the purpose for taking the gap is reasonable even if you are preparing for the competitive exams. Because at last honesty and confidence counts.
My cousin's brother enrolled in NITIE last year. So I am well aware of this criteria. According to him it’s not very difficult.
If your family income is less than 2.5 lakhs, you can get a 30% tuition fee waiver, and if your family income is less than 1 lakh, you can get a 50% tuition fee waiver.
One of my friends attends NITIE and here is his experience. NITIE Mumbai offers 5 courses and accepts exam scores of CTA, GATE, GRE, and GMAT. PGDIE, PGDPM, PGDMM accept GATE scores. PGDIM, PGDISEM accept CAT scores.
You can visit ‘www.nitie.edu’ once the institute releases the application and apply. You take admission in NITIE by writing the CAT to apply for the PGDIM/PGDISEM course, or by taking the GATE to apply for the PGDIE/PGDPM/PGDMM programs.
I have a few friends in the industry and according to their experience, I will say the job prospects for a civil engineer pursuing a PGDIE at NITIE with 2 years of work experience in a construction company are excellent.
Project management is a crucial part of any venture. So, be it manufacturing or service industry, civil engineers are needed.
The infrastructure boom in India works in favor of Civil Engineers. Just recently, NITIE has introduced a one-year course (PGPEX) in collaboration with IIT, Delhi. However, this course requires 5 years experience. You should consider this.
Also, PGPEX – VLFM is a one-year residential program jointly conducted by NITIE Mumbai and IIT Delhi.
The PGDIE program of NITIE will definitely offer you many opportunities. If you have an inclination toward this program then go for it.
