Which is better, a PGDIE from NITIE or an MTech in CSE from an IIT?

CP
Chandra Prabhakar Posted On : August 20th, 2021

The decision of choosing the course depends upon you and according to your interest. Having to know some people studying in both these colleges, I might be able to give you some facts about them.

  • Both the colleges have a good reputation in their respective fields.
  • If you want to get a good placement, then taking M.Tech in CSE would prove beneficial, as it will open your chance to get recruited by top tech giants like Microsoft and Facebook.
  • Doing M.Tech from a top-tier college would be good for your career.
  • NITIE is known for its good managerial studies and is regarded as the best business school in India. It can help you to get opportunities in the field of management.
  • Being a management sector course PGDIE is really good.
  • NITIE offers very good placements.
  • NITE gives admission to students through the GATE examination which makes NITIE a good business school.
  • Reputed software companies visit NITIE for recruitment.

Both the courses are equally good in terms of career. It depends upon your interest in what you want to choose; technical sector or management sector.

Why is NITIE Mumbai so underrated?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : May 19th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

There are 3 main reasons why NITIE Mumbai is so underrated

  • The lack of a popular tag like IIT or NIT makes NITIE a less preferred and known Institute among the institutes of the country.
  • Another major reason for NITIE being unpopular is because it's a government institute and unlike private institutes, it is not advertised in every magazine.
  • Since only engineers are allowed, there is a monotony in the candidate pool. Talented individuals who are non-engineers are not considered which restricts the quality of peers.

Ultimately, it's the input and output which is valued by people. NITIE has quality input and output as domain expertise of Management who can do anything. So I wouldn’t consider it undervalued just not overhyped.

No, not at all. NITIE is one of the most reputed colleges in India. In fact, NITIE is a brand of its own. It is basically a government institute that falls directly under the MHRD. It has been standing tall and strong for the past 54 years.

  • NITIE has a 100% placement rate.
  • The highest package offered is 44 LPA while the average package offered is 20.85 LPA.
  • Some of the major companies like Amazon, Flipkart, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals (GSK), Abbott Healthcare Pvt Ltd, Amway, Google, Vodafone, Nestle, etc come for final placements.

NITIE has built tie-ups with the industry, all with the help of the several pillars on which it thrives be it Deans, Directors, Faculty, alumni, Student volunteers, and others. It has only been possible because of the trust and integrity that is shared between NITIE and its stakeholders.

How is the life of a person after getting placement from NITIE (pgdie) in terms of job satisfaction, work life balance, job security, work load etc?

KM

One of my sisters is a former student of NITIE. She was amongst the toppers of NITIE with a pretty amazing experience after getting placed. Here’s what she had to say about her experience:

  • Job satisfaction: She got placed in Amazon with a great CTC. It was a great opportunity for her.
  • Work-life balance: It depends on person to person. You should maintain a work-life balance to conserve your mental health and energy.
  • Job security: This depends on your skillset and talent. Most people will never talk about this. If you are confident about yourself you wouldn’t be worried about job security.
  • Workload: Being a student at NITIE, you will get used to the workload of studying at night, and of course when a company pays you a good salary, they will demand quality work too.

All of these factors vary from person to person. It all comes down to your skills, talents, and ability to deal with different problems.

What are the marks required in the GATE to get a guaranteed entry in the NITIE Mumbai for mechanical engineering?

TK
Tuhina Khan Posted On : August 18th, 2021

Due to normalization, the minimum marks required vary from 65 to 72. But, the minimum GATE score that you must try to score lies between 725 to 750 marks. Here is the cutoff for 2021.

Category  GATE Cutoff
General  609
OBC 473
SC 345
ST 317
Physically disabled  473

Please take note that your admission to the institution does not wholly depend on your GATE score. In fact, a good GATE score only makes you eligible for getting shortlisted and getting a call letter for further rounds which constitute group discussion (GD) and personal interview (PI).

Before releasing the final merit list, different weights are assigned to your past academic records- 10th, 12th and undergraduate percentage, your GATE score, and your performance in the GD and PI round, and then, all these scores will be added up and an aggregate will be taken out. Thus, making it to college does not solely depend on your GATE score.

Apart from your hard work, determination, and perseverance, nothing guarantees you admission to this premier institution.

Would a two year gap affect my chances of getting into NITIE?

SK
Suresh Kakkar Posted On : August 16th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering, graduated in 2020

No, a gap of two years will not hamper your chances of getting into NITIE. It is a common thing, actually. Students who are preparing for competitive exams often take breaks.

Imagine you are the interviewer and you have two CVs in front of you. One CV has a gap of two years and the other one does not. It is up to you who you want to select. The general answer will be the fresher.

But it depends if a two-year gap will have any effect on getting admission. It is not the only factor that determines admission, though. If you perform well in your GATE/CAT exams, have an admirable track record in academics you will have a good chance of being selected. A good experience in work also goes a long way in solidifying your chances for admission.

You have to come up with a reason for the gap in your CV that is reasonable enough to the interviewer(s). Convince them that the purpose for taking the gap is reasonable even if you are preparing for the competitive exams. Because at last honesty and confidence counts.

How do I pay the fees for NITIE in Mumbai if my father's income is less than 2 lakhs?

KC
Khushi Chitra Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

My cousin's brother enrolled in NITIE last year. So I am well aware of this criteria. According to him it’s not very difficult.

  • You can simply apply for an education loan.
  • Almost all government banks in India offer an education loan without collateral to students who enroll in a high-quality institute.
  • The interest rates are lower as well.
  • SBI, for example, does it through its SBI Scholar loan scheme, which is available to a list of reputed or “good-quality” institutes.
  • NITIE appears on all of these lists.
  • There is no need to pay interest until you graduate.
  • Even so, you have the option of extending the moratorium period for an additional year.
  • You can begin repaying the loan once you get a good job.
  • Essentially, your parents are not required to do anything in this situation.

If your family income is less than 2.5 lakhs, you can get a 30% tuition fee waiver, and if your family income is less than 1 lakh, you can get a 50% tuition fee waiver.

How did you get a call from NITIE Mumbai?

GN
Gargi Nath Posted On : August 11th, 2021
PGDIE Operations Management & Data Analytics, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2020)

One of my friends attends NITIE and here is his experience. NITIE Mumbai offers 5 courses and accepts exam scores of CTA, GATE, GRE, and GMAT. PGDIE, PGDPM, PGDMM accept GATE scores. PGDIM, PGDISEM accept CAT scores.

  • My friend got admission based on his GATE (Mechanical engineering) rank i.e. AIR 689. The GD-PI call is based solely on the GATE score out of 1000. The final selection depends on GD-PI, past academic records, and work exp if any. My friend did convert to PGDIE with a merit number 27.
  • One of my friends also got into NITIE through CAT. For this, you must have a CAT score greater than the Cut-off decided by the college. As I have learned from my friend this year the cut-off was around 97.5 % overall with sectional greater than 92 %. Apart from that, they do look into your academics and work-ex.

You can visit ‘www.nitie.edu’ once the institute releases the application and apply. You take admission in NITIE by writing the CAT to apply for the PGDIM/PGDISEM course, or by taking the GATE to apply for the PGDIE/PGDPM/PGDMM programs.

Sunidhi Mishra Posted On : August 11th, 2021
MBA from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2018)

I have a few friends in the industry and according to their experience, I will say the job prospects for a civil engineer pursuing a PGDIE at NITIE with 2 years of work experience in a construction company are excellent.

Project management is a crucial part of any venture. So, be it manufacturing or service industry, civil engineers are needed.

The infrastructure boom in India works in favor of Civil Engineers. Just recently, NITIE has introduced a one-year course (PGPEX) in collaboration with IIT, Delhi. However, this course requires 5 years experience. You should consider this.

Also, PGPEX – VLFM is a one-year residential program jointly conducted by NITIE Mumbai and IIT Delhi.

  • This program aims to groom the emerging leaders for mid and senior Level Managerial roles.
  • It covers a wide range of verticals such as Operation & Supply chain management, Strategic planning, Business development, Digital transformation & World-class manufacturing.
  • You will get to learn a lot through the curriculum with theories, tools, and models of Breakthrough Management, the five Step Discovery workshop-oriented learning with Industrial visits in India & Abroad.
  • Companies from Consulting, IT, Finance visit the campus placement so you will have good career opportunities.

The PGDIE program of NITIE will definitely offer you many opportunities. If you have an inclination toward this program then go for it.
