College life at IIT Bombay is extraordinary apart from the academics. Here are some things you can look forward to:

  • Literary Arts: The club is pretty active and you can participate in various events like quizzes, writing, word games, and reading. You can also compete in national competitions and win prizes.
  • Dance, Dramatics, and Music: Many students in these clubs have gone on to become professionals in their respective fields. You can expect some great performances and events throughout the year.
  • Fine Arts and Filmmaking: There are clubs for painters, filmmakers, and photographers who have gained recognition for their work.
  • Mood Indigo: This is one of the biggest cultural fests in India, organized entirely by college students. It's a mind-blowing experience and managing it is a big deal.
  • TechFest: This is a huge technical fest that has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. If you're into technology and innovation, this is the place to be.
  • Inter IIT: IIT Bombay has amazing sports facilities, and students participate every year in the Inter IIT, a sports tournament between all the IITs in India.
  • E-Cell: With the booming startup scene in India, E-Cell has become a massive platform for aspiring entrepreneurs. You can get in touch with founders and VCs and learn from them.
  • Technical Clubs: These clubs are run by STAB and are for students who are passionate about coding, building bots, and discussing intergalactic space.
  • Lukkha: If you're not interested in any of the above, you can always "kaato lukkha" (chill) with your friends. There are many ways to do this, and you'll definitely find something that suits you.
  • College Romance: While it's not a club or an event, college romance is a big part of IIT Bombay's culture. You can meet people from other colleges.

VJ
Vamsi Jhunjhunwala Posted On : August 31st, 2021
Studied at IIM Indore, Mumbai Campus, graduated in 2020

It is worth it to take admission to the Mumbai campus of IIM Indore. The coursework is rigorous and the faculty of the Mumbai campus is just as experienced and capable as the ones in the Indore campus.

The number of recruiters is increasing every year and the highest package is also seeing a rapid increase with each passing year. The companies do not hesitate to visit the Mumbai campus and treat it with the same respect as they treat the Indore campus.

The peer group in the Mumbai cause is also very good and you can expect to get excellent guidance from your peers and faculty. Through guest lectures, networking events and alumni meets; the campus generates and nurtures strong ties with the industries. The location of the institute is also a huge plus.

PS
Pawan Sharma Posted On : November 18th, 2022
BSc from Banaras Hindu University (Graduated 2018)

My friend had a fairly good experience at BHU. She had switched her stream to Arts from BTech so she did not expect much. However, as time passed she realized her decision was worthwhile

Some common pros and cons she experienced at BHU are:

Pros-

  • Improved in academics

  • She was able to crack ALP technician CBT-1 because of excess free time

  • Started pursuing her photography skills

  • Travelled with her savings as fees were very less

  • Started writing poetries

  • worked on two projects & developed my own website

Cons-

  • Became a victim of society's taunts that I could not pursue BTech so opted for Arts.

My friend’s experience signifies how life at BHU can change you and your dreams easily.

How is food in the mess at BITS Hyderabad?

Sapna Malik updated Posted On : December 22nd, 2023

Before beginning with my answer, I would like for you to make a note that no mess food can ever compete with home food. So it is not worth it to compare the two.

Coming to BITS Hyderabad, the mess food is quite decent. There are two messes on the campus, and they serve both North and South Indian meals on most days.

At first, you’ll be delighted by the variety of dishes served by the messes. But as time goes by, you’ll get bored of eating the same kind of food, served strictly according to the mess time table. Further, you’ll begin to miss your mom’s recipes, which will ultimately make you think that the food at the hostels is not good at all. Because of all this, you’ll start eating at the cafeteria or miss some meals altogether.

Speaking in a more practical and evaluative fashion, the mess food at BITS Hyderabad is certainly better than many IITs and NITs. You’ll be served decent and satisfactory meals at the college.

What was your rough timetable at IIT Bombay?

PS
Poornima Sahoo Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Studied M.Sc in Applied Statistics & Informatics at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) (Graduated 2019)

In the first year, your timetable at IIT Bombay would typically look like this:

  • Waking up at 8 am.
  • Getting ready quickly and have breakfast.
  • Attending morning classes.
  • Resting for 1-2 hours till the next class.
  • Attending classes till afternoon.
  • Having lunch at the canteen.
  • Taking teaching assistantship duty by taking labs to second and third-year students until evening.
  • Coming back to the hostel.
  • Browsing the internet, watch movies, finish assignments, chat with friends or engage in some other activity.
  • Sleeping at around 12 am or so.

However, your second year would be very different since you don't have classes for your masters in the second year. Instead, your schedule would look more like this:

  • Going to the lab (professor's cabin) and sitting until you feel like going to the hostel.
  • Going to the canteen for food and coming back to the lab to do some work.
  • Attempting Hacker Rank mathematics problems for nearly 3 months.
  • Working hard on your dissertation by sleeping many days in the lab itself (which turns out to be very fun, though!)
  • Every day would be almost the same: Either sitting in the hostel or the cabin since you will have no classes and have to work on your own.

How is life at IIM Shillong?

SB
Sanchita Basu Posted On : September 14th, 2022
PGDM in General Management, Indian Institute of Management Shillong

IIM Shillong offers a good campus experience. The professors are friendly, supportive, and well-qualified. You can get their help regarding any academic-related problems. The departmental library has an excellent collection of books.  Peer-to-peer learning opportunities are ample, thanks to the fairly heterogeneous mix of student backgrounds.

Staying on the IIM Shillong campus is somewhat surreal. Waking up to clouds forming just outside of the window or double rainbows making a bridge between two mountain tops are regular occurrences.

SS
Shubham Sharma Posted On : November 16th, 2022
2nd year MBBS student from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Expected 2025)

My friend is a student of AIIMS Raipur. She shared her experience of her college life there.

The campus is situated a bit far from the residential areas. The faculty is very professional and experienced. They cooperate with you throughout the medical examination process.

What catches the eye is the cleanliness of the campus. It’s exceptionally well-maintained and tidy.

The library is massive with an extensive collection of academic books. The annual fest Oriana is a fun-filled event that every student of AIIMS Raipur looks forward to. Many trips are also planned to develop good relationships between students.

My friend says her experience in AIIMS Raipur was one of a kind.

How is life at XIMB, Bhubaneswar?

CG
Chandni Ghose Posted On : April 22nd, 2021
M.B.A. Human Resource Management, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (2018)

As far as the college campus is concerned, my friends have lived on the new campus so my response is based on their experience there. Firstly, it is quite far from the city. If you are used to things being very convenient, this could pose as a bit of an inconvenience in your early days of living here since there really aren’t that many places to hang out.

However, this can definitely be an advantage at the same time as you will get more time to bond with your seniors and batch mates. In my opinion, once you build some friendships, you probably will not have a problem about not being close to a city anymore.

There are also numerous committees you can be a part of. You will definitely get super busy trying to juggle your responsibilities as a volunteer in these committees, along with other commitments like your academics, case study competitions, group projects, and other things. There are also a few parties that take place so you will get your share of fun in that aspect as well.

Overall, you can expect to have a good college life at either of the campuses. Hope this helps.
