National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar is one of the oldest NITs. It has been ranked 67 by NIRF,2020. It has received grade A by NAAC. It is AICTE approved. Currently, it offers B.Tech in 8 specializations.

Facilities and Location:

• The Srinagar campus is known for the scenic beauty and pleasant climate. The campus is huge and is spread over 100 acres. Many facilities are provided on campus like a cafeteria, hostel, high-speed wifi, spacious classrooms, library, etc.

• It is the only NIT campus where students get a chance to experience snowfall.

• The world-famous magnificent Dal lake also lies close to the campus. Srinagar also has many places for sightseeing.

Academics:

• The institute offers BTech, MTech, MSc, Ph.D., and MPhil degrees in various disciplines.

• BTech admission at the institute is through JEE Mains. For MTech and MSc the institute accepts GATE and JAM scores.

• For Ph.D. and MPhil, the candidates should have valid UGC/GATE scores.

Students who perform exceptionally well or belong to an economically weaker background are provided scholarships.

Faculty:

NIT Srinagar has a dedicated and diverse faculty of 186 members and 126 of them have their PhDs in their respective fields from reputed universities of India and abroad. The other members have MTech or MSc degrees. Teachers are knowledgeable and helpful.

Placements:

The placement cell of NIT, Srinagar is good. Many students do get placed.

• The placement rate for the core branches is around 70%. However, the placement rate for branches like IT and CSE is around 100%.

• According to the 2020 placement report, a total of 60 students got placement offers.

• The top recruiters at the institute were Optum, Samsung, IOCL.

• The average salary offered is around 6 LPA.

• Many students are first offered internships and if they do well during their internship period they are then offered a job.

Tech Fests are organized every year. Students also organize various workshops and seminars. Students are encouraged to take up internships and engage in research work. The college is good and has many advantages. A lot of opportunities are present on campus.

Tamil Nadu Open University is the primary University within the state to have introduced the credit-based, self–learning materials in print. It is recognized by UGC, NCTE, RCI, and DEB. The University specializes in UG and PG programs and offers Certificate and Vocational courses to the candidates alongside full-fledged courses with 218 Programmes in various disciplines.

The MBA degree of TNOP is specialized in 3 different departments namely Hospital Administration, Logistics Management, and Shipping and Logistics Management that are offered to the scholars for higher education.

Eligibility:

• To be eligible to get admitted to an MBA (Masters of Business Administration) course in any specialization at Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOP), one must hold any UG degree with at least 50% marks in aggregate.

• Further, the selection will be done based on merit followed by the counseling.

The fee structure of the MBA programs is as follows.

Faculty:

• TNOU features vast faculty members with quite 15 years of teaching experience in their respective fields.

• Most of the school members are Ph.D. holders in their respective fields or disciples.

Placements:

• TNOU offers a spread of Seminars, Guest Lectures, webinars, Conferences, Corporate Meets, Personality Development & Communication Skills Programs, and Counselling Sessions to prepare the candidates before the placements drive.

• Till now TNOU has successfully placed quite 60,000 students and has been continuously working to bring the only placement opportunities for the students.

• As of the 2019-20 stats, 80% of the students got placed with a decent salary package that was offered to the students.

• Companies like TCS, Accenture, Infosys, Bajaj, Axis Bank, and a few IT companies visit the University for internship and placements programs.

• The salary packages offered to the students ranged between rupees 15000-25000 per month.

In terms of academics, facilities, and placement opportunities the institute offers decent MBA programs. However, if it will be worth doing it or not, you should decide that.

The placement for MSc.-PhD in Atmosphere and Sciences at IIT Bhubaneswar is not that impressive. Although the overall placement at this IIT is quite decent and the placement rate is around 90% with an average CTC of 11.4 LPA. But the placement statistics for the M.Sc courses are not good. Only a few teaching institutes visit the campus during the placement drive recruiting students mainly from courses like Mathematics and Physics, etc.

The department of Atmosphere and Sciences at IIT Bhubaneswar is still developing and there is a shortage of faculty members in this department but there are visiting faculties from the different institutes.

To pursue a joint MSc.-Ph.D. degree in atmospheric sciences from IIT Bhubaneswar a student is required to have at least 60% in aggregate in his or her undergraduate degree in a relevant stream from a recognized university. A joint MSc.- Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences is not a very popular subject among the students and the department is still developing. The School of Earth, Ocean, and Climate Sciences at IIT Bhubaneswar have well-experienced faculty members. It also invites professors from other premier institutes like the University of Ontario and University of Massachusetts.

This subject is mainly research-oriented. Topics like Meteorology, Aerosol Properties, and impacts, Urban Heat Island Effects, etc. are studied under the subject of Atmospheric Sciences. Regarding placements, Atmospheric Sciences might not provide you with opportunities from private sectors, but the Government, Ministry of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences recruit students for various Scientific posts and Contractual posts. For example, the National Centre for Antarctic Ocean and Research (NCAOR) recruits students of atmospheric sciences. Students also opt for higher education.

It is recommended that you opt for an institute based upon its Affiliations, Accreditations, Placements, and Extra-curricular activities. Since one of my friends is a student at IITM Janakpuri, here is what she says about the institute as a whole, 

1. IITM Janakpuri has been developing at a steady pace ever since its establishment, in terms of its academic quality, and the number of students.
2. In fact, IITM Janakpuri has been accredited grade “A” by NAAC. Moreover, the institute is affiliated with IPU Delhi and is simultaneously also approved by AICTE.
3. The major upside is that students from IITM Janakpuri secure placement offer from several top-ranked firms around the world, including Jaro Education, HDFC, RBS, Tech Mahindra, Genpact, etc with reasonable salary packages.
4. Moreover, the institute will encourage you to take part in various inter and intra college Extracurricular activities as well. 

Having said that, every institute encourages 10% of the total number of seats through the management quota. 

The admission to the M.Tech programs at IIT Bhubaneswar is done based on the performance of the students in GATE.

Regular candidates:-

The shortlisting of regular candidates for admission into MTech is based on their GATE score only. The fixing of the cutoff score for candidates in different categories is as per the norms of the institute. For the selection of regular candidates, 70% of weightage is given to the GATE score and 30% to the written tests and interviews. The written test and the interviews are given 15% weightage each.

A student from the unreserved category is selected for the interview if he/she scores a minimum of 40% in the written test and for final selection, candidates need to score a minimum of 50% marks in the interview. The ultimate selection of the candidates is based on the combined score of GATE, written test, and interview.

Sponsored Candidates:-

The candidates who served for three years in the sponsoring organization are known as sponsored candidates. The sponsored candidates can be divided into three categories and the shortlisting and selection procedure for the different categories are discussed below.

• The sponsored candidates with a valid GATE score undergo the same shortlisting and selection process as the regular candidates.
• Sponsored candidates without GATE score are shortlisted if he/she secured a minimum of 65% (or 7.0 CGPA in a 10-point scale) marks in all academics. The weightage for the written test and the interview is 70% and 30% respectively. Candidates are considered eligible for interviews if they secure a minimum of 40% marks in the written test and for final selection, they need to secure a minimum of 50% marks in the interview.
• The candidates sponsored by DRDO are selected through approved internal processes and admitted to the appropriate discipline.
