IIT Bhubaneswar has a wide range of facilities that are offered to students to excel in sports and games. A variety of sports are played by students like Cricket, Football, Badminton, Basketball, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Chess, Lawn Tennis, Athletic, and Aquatics, etc. A well-equipped gym is present at every hostel to ensure student’s fitness and sound health. Cricket Nets, Volleyball, Basketball and indoor courts, etc. are also provided to students.

IIT Bhubaneswar is equipped with the necessary requirements for football tournaments. Every year a tournament is organized where students compete against each other. Also, there is a General Championship held in which every department has to compete against another to see who will finally get the trophy.

Also, an initiative is taken to organize the Mahanadi Premier League (MPL). An Inter-IIT sports meet in Kanpur is held. Other than that students also participate in sports festivals of colleges in and outside Bhubaneswar.

M.Tech placements in IIT Bhubaneswar for ECE is quite impressive. Although for undergraduates, ECE is one of the new branches in IIT Bhubaneswar but M.tech in electronics and communication has been present at this institute for many years. The School currently offers M.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering specializations with an intake student strength of 18. The program duration is 2 years where the second year is fully dedicated for research purposes only. The M.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering program focuses on providing students an insight into research areas such as Communication Engineering, Signal Processing, and others.

Recently, IIT Bhubaneswar signed MoU with many universities for various purposes like research and student exchange. NITs like Durgapur or Kurukshetra are also good institutes to pursue core engineering like Mechanical. According to NIRF Rankings, NIT Durgapur and NIT Kurukshetra rank at 30 and 48 respectively. As National Institute Of Technology, Kurukshetra is a Tier 1 college in India so every major MNCs come to college for campus placements. And Package is according to a person's skills and knowledge. Overall average job packages are around 7 lakh per annum. The placement record of 2019 in the National Institute Of Technology, Durgapur shows Mechanical Engineering bagged the highest percentage of placement with 78.46%. The highest CTC offered at NIT, Durgapur was INR. 32.54 LPA whereas the average salary package was around INR. 9.09 LPA.
