IIT Dhanbad (Indian School of Mines) is a public technical university located in the mineral-rich region of India, in the city of Dhanbad, Jharkhand. It was established on December 9, 1926 by Lord Irwin, on the lines of the Royal School of Mines, London. IIT Dhanbad is the 3rd oldest institute after IIT Roorkee and IIT (BHU), Varanasi. It was converted into an IIT on May 25, 2016.
