Which should I prefer, ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar or COE at DTU?

A
Admin Posted On : July 11th, 2024

I am a second-year student of ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar.

I think you can go for B.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar. Even though DTU is a reputed institute, it is mostly known in the Northern parts of India. On the other hand, IIT Bhubaneswar carries the IIT tag, which is recognised nationally and globally.

As a central institution, IIT Bhubaneswar has a more diverse crowd as compared to DTU (also because DTU has a huge Delhi quota). This allows for a better exposure and exchange of values. This will in turn, help you in your profession when dealing with people from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds.

ECE is as good a branch as CoE/CSE, and you can easily get a job at an IT firm by learning coding on the side. Moreover, ECE students are allowed to sit for a large number of IT companies during placements.

Here’s a comparison between IIT Bhubaneswar and DTU for your reference:

Parameters

ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar

COE at DTU

NIRF 2023 Engineering Ranking

#47

#29

Highest Package (2023)

INR 44.62 LPA

INR 82.05 LPA

Average Package (2023)

INR 22.85 LPA

INR 23.70 LPA

Top Recruiters

Google, Adobe, Amazon, TCS, etc.

Samsung, Microsoft, Zomato, Flipkart, etc.

Since the placements at both the institutions are good, I would recommend you consider the other factors and choose B.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar.

Can a student change branches from Mechanical to ECE at KLE Technological University?

LG
Lokesh Gupta Posted On : November 22nd, 2020
BE Civil Engineering, KLE Technological University Hubli (2019)

One can easily change the branch from Mechanical to ECE at the university. Students must score well in their first year to be eligible for shifting branches. However, it totally depends upon the number of seats remaining in the Department. It is advised to preferably change the branch in the first/third semester, otherwise, it will be difficult to cope with subjects.

Requirements for Branch Changes

The student may change from Mechanical to ECE in the following ways:

  • If round 2 and 3 of counseling isn’t over, students can attend the counseling to seek admission to ECE if there are any seats left. If you are eligible for ECE in the 2nd/3rd round you may change your course.
  • However, if counseling is over you will have to study Mechanical Engineering for the first year. In your second year, you may apply for branch conversion. One must secure more than 8.5 CGPA in their first year to be eligible for it.
  • Seats are vacated in the second year due to others dropping out, getting a back or branch conversion. You will have to score as high depending on the number of seats available.

Although, you can consider pursuing Mechanical Engineering as it is a much better option than ECE until and unless you have some specific reason to change the branch.
