Is IIT BHU good in research?

AS
Aditri Sen Posted On : February 16th, 2022
B.Tech. in Mining Engineering, IIT BHU

At IIT BHU, research culture isn’t that active. Research culture mostly depends on students and peer groups. Most students on campus are usually focused on placements. In a batch, you will find only a handful of people who are interested in research and are actively pursuing it.

However, if you have a particular interest and you want to do projects in that subject, you will get help and guidance from the professors.

How are classrooms of IIT BHU?

SB
Saunak Banerjee Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech ElectronicsIndian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2020)

The classrooms at IIT BHU are good in terms of sitting capacity and ambiance. There are three Lecture Hall Complexes at IIT BHU and each of them has 9 classrooms. Each classroom has a sitting capacity of 150 – 200 students and each classroom is technically equipped with projectors, screens, and speakers. All the lectures for the first-year students take place in the lecture hall complexes. The only demerit is that these classrooms do not have air conditioners installed, but the good part is that the classrooms are well ventilated so in the summer season too the room temperature does not go too high.

The classrooms in the ABLT complex do have air conditioners installed and the infrastructure of the complex is also very nice. Mostly guest lectures are held in the ABLT complex.

Each department at IIT BHU also has its own classrooms in which classes of the second year and onwards takes place. These classrooms are also spacious and all of them are technically equipped with projectors and speakers and can accommodate a maximum of around 50 students.

Which is better, CSE at ISM or Electrical at IIT Bhu?

AK
Anshika Kapur Posted On : August 13th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

IIT BHU, as well as IIT/ISM Dhanbad both, are the old institutes that were recently converted to IITs. So both have a prestigious status through IIT BHU performed better than the ISM in the 2020 NIRF Rankings- IIT BHU(11), and ISM(12).

Talking about the branch, Electrical at IIT BHU includes only the core electrical subjects. Moreover, there are very few companies visiting for core electrical students. Although, the students can sit for IT companies during the placement drive. According to 2019 placement highlights, a total of 88 students got placed from the Electrical Engineering at IIT BHU. The salary package ranged between 10 LPA to 58.21 LPA.

On the other hand, CSE offers many job options and more scope than electrical since every other field is getting blended with the CSE nowadays. And, ISM holds decent placement records for the CSE branch. The placement highlights of 2019 show there was a 90.23% placement from CSE and the average CTC offered was 39.5 LPA.

Which should be preffered IIT bhu electrical or BITS pilani EEE?

PR
Parag Roy Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (IIT BHU) (2016)

Both institutes are among the top institutions in India. So decide accordingly based on the following factors -

According to NIRF Ranking 2019, BITS Pilani is ranked at 39 and IIT BHU at 28. So the numbers show that IIT BHU has performed better over BITS Pilani in terms of infrastructure, faculties, research facilities, outreach, and location.

The IITs being run by the government body, the fee structure is less as compared to BITS Pilani. Also being government institutions, IITs have fee waiver schemes available, unlike BITS.

Electrical at IIT BHU includes only the core electrical subjects which is why a lot of the students end up preparing for software/hardware companies for the placement with a decent package since there are few companies employing core electrical students. On the other hand, BITS Pilani has a combined electrical and electronics engineering course which provides students with the knowledge of both the areas as the industry demands so and also provides opportunities in various areas. So if you are interested in learning more and in-depth about the subject, BITS Pilani should be the choice. Being a private institute, they have very flexible and effective course structures.

Overall, both the institute has good faculties. However, when it comes to IIT BHU since it is an older institute, it has many well-experienced faculties. Moreover, IITs lead in the research facilities as well as in research work.

Both institutes provide good placement opportunities to their students. According to 2019 placement statistics, a total of 88 students got placed from Electrical in IIT BHU. The average CTC ranged between 10 LPA to 58.21 LPA. While in BITS Pilani the placement percentage of EEE was around 59.3% with an average CTC of 14.86 LPA. If you are interested in MS after B.Tech, then BITS-Pilani would be better. Though IITs are popular worldwide, it is better to have the BITS tag for doing MS. If you are planning for an M.Tech or research-oriented career in India, IIT BHU is better.

Both institutes offer a huge alumni network. BITS has many alumni working in foreign, international brands. However, the alumni network of IIT BHU is a little larger since it is older and its alumni are present in every possible career paths.

Which is better, Electrical Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar or Mechanical Engineering at IIT BHU?

IT
Ishika Tiwari Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Electrical Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2020)

IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT BHU both are among the reputed institutes for engineering in India. IIT BHU is ranked 11th while IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked 17th by MHRD in 2019. Both the IITs provide students with good academic experience and decent placements.

Talking about IIT BHU then the department of Mechanical Engineering came into existence in 1919. Over the past 100 years, the department has grown four folds to become the largest department in IIT(BHU), Varanasi. It offers a 4-year bachelor of technology program to the students who are admitted through JEE Advanced. The curriculum is periodically updated and designed in such a way that provides students with problem-solving skills and innovation of new technologies. Here in IIT BHU infrastructural facilities are great for research for a wide range of specializations such as Machine Design, Thermal and Fluid Engineering, Production Engineering and Industrial Management. They also focus on innovation so they have CST UP Incubation Center for grass root innovators started in 2018 under Mechanical Engineering Department. The placement scenario in IIT BHU is quite good. Out of 120 students, 109 were placed in the Mechanical Department in 2019 with an average offer of 8 Lacs per annum.

Electrical engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar is also good. School of Electrical Sciences at IIT Bhubaneswar offers a good academic and research-oriented environment. It was established in 2008. There are already 200+ ongoing research projects and have a fund of more than INR 1 billion. The department is engaged in a wide spectrum of research in emerging and innovative technologies through nationally and internationally funded sponsored research. The average placement in Electrical was 8.5 lacs per annum and almost 86% are placed in 2019. Most of the students were able to get jobs in the core-sector.

Both the institutes are of equal importance and the branches are also pretty good and offer plenty of opportunities. But IIT BHU has the 100 years old Legacy and has one of the biggest and well-connected alumni bases in our country. So here IIT BHU has an edge over IIT Bhubaneswar. But at last, branch and interest matters more than college.

What is better, IIT BHU civil or chemical ?

RG
Radhika Girdhar Posted On : August 13th, 2020
Studied Civil Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2017)

The answer to this question depends on what you aim for after 4 or 5 years of your college degree. If you just want a placement and not particularly interested in a branch then you could go for any of those two branches as placement statistics are good for both in IIT BHU. There are enough opportunities in the non-core sector which generally comprise IT, developer, analytics, product management, business analyst, etc. These sectors don't look for a specific branch and rather require good communication and analytical skills.

Coming to the core sectors, both civil and chemical provide diverse opportunities in these areas. If you are someone who finds chemical processing and chemistry interesting, then go for chemical engineering. If you are the one who gets amazed by the interesting and defying structures, civil engineering should be your choice. According to 2019 placement statistics, 77 students from Civil Engineering and 104 students from Chemical Engineering got placed from IIT BHU.

Opting for civil engineering would open doors to exams such as IES, UPSC, GATE, and other state engineering exams. There are ample opportunities for civil engineering majors. And if you choose chemical engineering, you can go for higher studies or work for PSUs. So, both these branches at IIT BHU would provide enough opportunities to grow and explore and the end decision should be based on your interest.
