IIM Ranchi has had strong placements in recent years, including for the 2022 batch. According to the placement report, MBA and MBA HR students at IIM Ranchi received an average salary of INR 16.17 lakhs per year and INR 15.63 lakhs per year, respectively. The highest salary offered was INR 32.21 lakhs per year, which is about 8.3% higher than the previous year. The placement drive attracted over 250 recruiters, including major companies such as Deloitte, Aditya Birla Group, Infosys, EY, and IBM. Students were offered various job roles including asset management, wealth management, corporate banking, and project management.
It is worth noting that both IIM Kozhikode, IIM Shillong, and IIM Indore also have their own strengths and weaknesses. It is advisable to review their placement reports to make an informed decision.
Each of them has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. And, instead of choosing the oldest college or the highest package as the criterion, students should conduct a SWOT analysis to see which colleges best align with their long-term goals.
IIM Indore: Because of its age, it is regarded as a premium choice among the student fraternity. However, a closer examination reveals that the batch size of 600+ is a grave trap for students with mediocre backgrounds. With a large batch size, you have little chance of being shortlisted by big brands appearing in their report. However, getting into an older college with a good reputation will work out in the long run if one works hard in the corporate world.
IIM Shillong: Founded in 2008, not long before the new IIMs, it has its own interviewing process rather than the CAP. Both the new IIMs and Shillong are progressing at the same rate. On the other hand, the state of affairs in the world. This is primarily due to logistical constraints; recruiters for IIM grads are typically top-level managers. Each minute counts for top-level executives, and losing time for travel is the last thing they want to do.
IIM Ranchi: One of the country's fastest-growing IIMs, it has seen phenomenal growth in recent years. IIM Ranchi has outperformed Shillong in a short period of time. IIM Ranchi has two flagship courses, PGDM and PGDHRM, and is the only IIM that offers HR-specific courses. With most of the early alumni in higher HR positions, they have an advantage over other colleges in convincing them to bring companies to campus. As a result, their placement is improved, and with smaller batch sizes, everyone has nearly equal opportunity. However, IIM Ranchi has its own constraints, as it is still operating from a temporary campus. IIM Ranchi is the slowest to build its own campus.
IIM Rohtak conducts a separate exam, known as the Integrated Program in Management Aptitude Test (IPMAT), to give admission to the Integrated Program in Management (IPM) course offered. Similarly, the Joint Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test (JIPMAT) is conducted to give admission to IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya. Only IIM Ranchi accepts the IPMAT (Indore) score.
The IPMAT exam is divided into two sections Quantitative Aptitude: QA MCQ and QA SA, and one section of Verbal Aptitude. For the QA SA section, it is important to develop a strong conceptual understanding of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry topics. This will help you to perform well in this section. The QA MCQ section is relatively tricky and you need to be quick and precise with your answers to score well. The concepts used in this section will be familiar from your studies in classes 8th to 12th, but you must know how to apply them to the questions given. The third section, VA, is generally considered to be the easiest and most scoring section, as you can finish it in a shorter amount of time. To excel in this section, it is important to work on your Reading Comprehension skills, grammar, and vocabulary.
If you successfully clear the IPMAT exam, you will be required to give the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) for IIM Indore. To prepare for these, it is recommended to read good news editorials, the economy and finance sections of reliable newspapers, and learn how to prioritize and arrange your arguments in a cohesive manner. Most importantly, learn how to leverage what you already know to your advantage. To get a better idea of the exam pattern and syllabus, it is advisable to start attempting mock tests.
When it comes to choosing a business school, the competition is fierce and the options can be overwhelming. Three institutes that are considered to be among the top in the country are the Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSOM) at IIT Kharagpur, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi, and the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS).
If you are interested in an operations profile, then VGSOM is a great choice. It is considered to be one of the best institutes in the country for operations specialization, after NITIE. Additionally, the return on investment (ROI) is high. IIM Ranchi, on the other hand, may have a lower average package compared to the other two institutes, but it has the prestige of the IIM tag and a decent profile. The hostels are also fabulous, with single rooms available for students.
NMIMS is considered to be more costly and the batch strength is over 500 students. The top 150-200 students get superb packages and roles that are at par with other top B-schools, however, the next lot of students may have a lot of start-ups, etc. If you want to play safe, VGSOM or IIM Ranchi might be the best option.
However, if you are willing to take a risk, NMIMS might be a good choice as the profiles there are really good. It's ultimately up to you to decide which institute aligns best with your career goals and objectives. Rest assured, whichever institute you choose, you will be choosing a great institution as all three are among the top institutes in the country.
When it comes to deciding which of the second-generation IIMs is the best among IIM Trichy, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, it is important to note that all three institutions were established around the same time. As a result, it is too early to make an accurate determination of which is superior.
In terms of placement opportunities and the types of profiles offered, the three IIMs are quite similar. However, it's important to note that each IIM has its own unique strengths and weaknesses, and what may be the best fit for one student may not be the best fit for another.
Therefore, before deciding on a business school, it's crucial to set your own criteria and consider what factors are most important to you in terms of the curriculum, campus culture, location, and career opportunities. Additionally, it's recommended to research and visit each campus, and talk with current students, alumni, and faculty, to get a better idea of which IIM aligns better with your goals.
When considering whether to attend a new or "baby" Indian Institute of Management (IIM) or a more established one, there are two key issues to consider.
Firstly, it is possible to graduate from a new IIM and secure a job that pays significantly more than your current 12 LPA job but it will depend on your performance in business school, and the better-established IIMs will have a greater probability of making this happen. For example, if you attend IIM Trichy or IIM Ranchi, your chances of securing a higher-paying job will be higher.
Secondly, and more importantly, the question is whether you should join a new IIM in your first attempt if you are already holding a 12 LPA job. It is recommended to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) again and try to get into a better college, preferably one of the top 6 IIMs or other reputable institutions such as FMS, SP Jain, or MDI.
This will provide a greater opportunity to secure a higher-paying job in the future. While it is true that a new IIM may offer good opportunities and placements, the chances of getting a better placement are higher in more established institutes, it is better to aim for these institutes on the first attempt.
If we talk about the brand value and worth of these two IIMs I don’t think there are many dissimilarities. The difference between the two is some personal level factors like
Campus: IIM Ranchi has no permanent campus and this is one of the major shortcomings of this institute. IIM Raipur on the other hand has a vast 200-acre campus. It is decked with world-class facilities and will give you the feeling of staying at a hotel.
Placements: IIM Raipur has better placements than IIM Ranchi and for many, this is a major deciding factor. The table below compares the placement statistics of the two IIMs.
Particulars |
IIM Raipur |
IIM Ranchi |
Highest CTC |
INR 42.15 LPA |
INR 32.21 LPA |
Average CTC |
INR 17.73 LPA |
INR 16.17 LPA |
Median CTC |
INR 16.95 LPA |
INR 15.50 LPA |
Top Recruiters |
Accenture, Airtel, IBM, Swiggy |
Deloitte, Aditya Birla Group, Infosys, EY, IBM |
Since the brand value of the 2 institutes is almost the same you can choose on the basis of the above factors.
I think the single most important reason why IIM Raipur and Ranchi are considered below IIM Udaipur is the lack of proper marketing. IIM Udaipur has managed to make its mark through enough marketing and promoting research culture. The IIMRs is also flawed in the sense that they are located in extremely poor economic states. This flaw overshadows all their features and the fact that they have better placement scenarios than IIM Udaipur.
Every IIM has set a certain goal and is gradually climbing the ladder to reach its level of excellence. The same is the case with IIMRs. In just a few years these two will be among the best IIMs in India.
