Among Ethiraj MOP WCC and Stella Maris which one is best to have fun college days?

DR
Deepika Roy Posted On : October 14th, 2021
B.Sc Education, Women's Christian College, Chennai

Ethiraj, MOP, WCC, and Stella Maris College offer excellent education and a mix of cultural events. They all encourage students to enjoy and experience great college life. They give participation opportunities in studies, NSS, NCC, Rotaract, extracurriculars, festivals, and other social events.

As all the colleges are women’s colleges, they have independence. You can dress your way. Mobiles are restricted on campus. The class hours are fun, and you would not prefer bunking classes.

WCC is the best college if your goal is to have a great college life. It not only gives you great exposure and tags you with its brand name. You get an opportunity to grow holistically. I have a few friends from WCC, and they are proud to be alumni of WCC.

Can I get an NIT seat with a 15000 obc rank in JEE Mains?

MS
Monika Sinha Posted On : August 13th, 2022
B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur

It will be difficult to get an NIT Seat with a 15000 OBC rank in JEE Main. You may get NITs like Agartala or Silchar, during the last rounds of counseling. Whether you will get a seat or not will depend on the competition of that year and the cutoff trends. You may apply for the counseling and wait till the spot round admission.

Which NITs are better options than BITS Goa/Hyderabad?

FR
Falguni Raahaman Posted On : August 20th, 2021
B.E. Electronics and Communication Engineering, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2020)

NIT Trichy or NIT Warangal is better than BITS G/H. NIT Trichy is extremely good for academics and research purposes. It was placed at the 9th position in the NIRF ranking of the year 2021 released by the ministry of education India. It is also considered to be better than BITS for core branches like Mechanical, Civil, etc. The course fee at NIT Trich is considerably lower than that of BITS.

You can check the placement report of NIT Trichy for the past 2 years in the table given below.

Particulars Salary/ Statistics (2019) Salary/ Statistics (2020)
Placement percentage 95% 90%
Highest Package offered  INR 40 LPA INR 42 LPA
Average Package offered  Rs 4.5 LPA Rs 6.5 LPA
Number of companies visited 220 91
Top Recruiters Godrej, Wipro, HCL, TCS, Amazon Volvo, Wipro, Yahoo, HCL, Ford

On the other hand, BITS focuses more on entrepreneurship and business ideas. NIT Surathkal would also prove to be a pretty good option if you are facing some financial issues with the fee that is charged by BITS. I would place all of the other NITs below BITS Goa/Hyderabad.

Which is better, to join TCS or to continue with GATE preparation?

VS
Vivek Sinha Posted On : August 9th, 2022
M.Tech in Computer Science Engineering & Data Science, International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB)

Join TCS and prepare for GATE simultaneously. During the training session for three months, you will get ample time to prepare for GATE after office hours. If you manage your time efficiently, it’s not difficult to squeeze a few hours for studying, after office hours, even after the training period. Many TCS associates prepare for competitive examinations like GATE, CAT, and IAS examinations. With the right time-management strategy, it’s possible to do both.

I have calls from IIM L, K, New IIM's, NMIMS, IIFT, MDI, IIT-Mumbai, NITIE. What should be my order of preference among these colleges?

SG
Shelvy Janki Gupta Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Rohtak

It is suggested to reach out to students in these colleges who have a similar profile to yours. This will give you a fair knowledge of the type of companies that visit the campuses.

Do not put your faith in an average package as there is no guarantee that you'll get that much. You can even get a package that's below average.

  1. If you're offered IIFT Delhi, take it. But if it's Kolkata, you'll have to think about it. IIFT Kolkata doesn't have a nice campus and the hostels are far away. When you have a full-fledged campus life, the MBA experience is always superior.
  2. Choose MDI or IIM K if you are interested in Sales & Marketing or General Management. Choose NITIE if you're interested in Operations, Supply Chain, or Information Technology.
  3. NITIE, MDI, and the new IIMs are in no way comparable. The former two are unquestionably superior. Take a look at how many FMCG visit MDI and NITIE.
  4. IIT-B (SJMSOM) has a strong reputation even among IITs. The other IITs are on a lower level than the above-mentioned ones.

Go for NMIMS as only your last option. Although many good companies visit this campus, the large size of the batch makes it difficult to grab good offers. Furthermore, their fees are on the higher end of the scale.

Does a two-year gap after graduation hinder admission to a top B-school (IIM, XLRI and FMS)?

SC
Shreya Chaturvedi Posted On : May 27th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (2021)

You do not have to worry about that because not only my elder brother, but a number of other seniors and alumni of these Institutes had gap years. They were building a startup, or preparing for Civil Services, or even trying new skills. Let us check the selection process of these top business schools -

  • The selection criteria are based on two levels- the first is by compiling the marks of 10+2, graduation, and CAT.
  • The work experience is turned into a score too, along with professional certificates, higher education, academic and gender diversity.
  • IIMs in particular follow this criterion and give the CAT exam a very high weightage.
  • You can strengthen your profile by building skills or working on projects or a startup.
  • The final step includes the WAT(Written Ability Test) and PI (Personal Interview).

The scores of these are combined and finally, during the interview, you will be asked about your gap years.

It is up to you how you can connect your gap story with your future goals. The MBA program is full of talented aspirants and the panelists select only those who can utilize the subject wisely and make it work for their goals. Gap years will be considered advantageous to your profile if something unique comes out of it.

What can I do if I was not able to get a good BE degree of my choice after taking an MSc in BITS Pilani?

NM
Nandlal Mandel Posted On : July 29th, 2021
Masters in Economics, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

One of my friends joined Civil Engineering in the 2nd year but he dropped out of it. Economics begins making sense when you start taking up electives of your choice. However, if you have gotten any engineering branch, then do not drop out. The current job scenario in the Indian market is pathetic and you must make it big.

In your final year, CDC's M.Sc will be beneficial. You can also pick your electives as my friend did in finance and entrepreneurship and soon got an internship at an investment bank. He didn't stop there and further explored Eco-Fin by doing a thesis.

The perks of not dropping out are as follows:

  • You will get opportunities to take up both an internship and a thesis and that's where you will utilize your research skills and also understand the ins and outs of the corporate world.
  • Your perspective will change and it will expand and develop.
  • If you could develop different passions during this period, it'll make you a valuable asset to companies.

BITS will give you immense flexibility to develop yourself. You're not bound by your choices because you can make many other, any other. Your peers will be a group of intellectuals who want to do something in life and they'll support you throughout this time.
