How difficult is it to get a PhD from IISc Bangalore?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : July 14th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

Well, getting a Ph.D. from IISc is indeed difficult. In my opinion, the true meaning of a Ph.D. is investing your entire efforts, time, and knowledge in one specific region. In India though, Ph.D. is just considered a degree one can achieve by publishing some paper in some conference or journal. The quality of these papers is poor and substandard bringing down the sort of the degree.

However, IISc being a prestigious institute has managed to maintain the dignity and credibility of the degree so far. You need to prepare yourself for committing to hard work and high-level dedication. Know that your next 5-6 years will be spent proving and disproving every hypothesis possible and conducting infinite experiments.

As a Ph.D. student, you will be publishing a few journals in top international forums and also writing your own thesis, which will culminate your entire work and present it before other researchers and professors of the institute. You will then be assessed thoroughly. Only after proving your point strongly and convincing them will you be able to get the degree.

During this whole time, you will face many struggles dealing with your PI and securing funds for your research work. But trust me the result will be worth the effort!

What is the current scenario of NIT Puducherry?

SN
Shivesh Nathuram Posted On : October 6th, 2021
Studied B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Puducherry (2021)

My brother is from NIT Pondicherry and so I can give you an insight into the recent scenario at the campus.

  • It boasts a new 256-acre campus with the best hostel and mess facilities. The rooms are pretty large, well-furnished, and spotless.
  • Every floor has a common room with an LCD TV that you can use at any time to watch sports, movies, or another programming.
  • Each hostel has two lifts. As a result, you won’t have to bother about stair climbing.
  • In the hostel and college, they have high-speed Wi-Fi
  • The campus now has a general small departmental store and a canteen that is open from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Security personnel is on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Every month, faculty and students host a series of cultural and academic events.
  • All of the professors, lecturers, and lab assistants are really helpful.
  • Placements aren’t as good as they could be compared to big institutions, but they’re still good and getting better every year. To get a good job, also depends on your caliber and skills

You’ll be able to meet students from all around India, as well as from other countries.

What is happening in NIT puducherry?

SG
Singdha Ghose Posted On : October 1st, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology,Puducherry

I have a few friends from NIT Puducherry and according to them, students in NIT-P are facing difficulties due to the negligence of the administration.

The basic facilities are not provided. The administration is solely focused on increasing the number of courses in the institute. The institute lacks proper classrooms, hostel rooms and accommodation, water facilities, and a proper power supply. Even the basic amenities of the students are not being fulfilled.

There is also a transportation problem from the institute side. They have very few numbers of vehicles when compared to the number of students. Students on average waste about 5 hours per day due to the transportation problem.

But the situation is getting better slowly, now that it has moved to its own campus. Many of the important structures like the science block and hostels are built already.

How is the hostel and mess facility at JIPMER?

SS
Suman Sharma Posted On : September 20th, 2023
MBBS from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry (2021)

I am an alumnus of JIPMER. Here are the details on the hostel and mess facilities at JIPMER.

Most hostels are located in the hostel complex. The male UG students get rooms in Osler House, Lister House or Intern's Boys Hostel. The Intern’s Boys Hostel is newly built and has better rooms.

Each hostel has a study room, a recreational room, and good wifi facilities. The Intern’s Boys hostel has good and spacious rooms. The hostel rooms are two seater rooms. The Intern’s Boys Hostel has attached washrooms, but Osler and Lister have common washrooms. Each hostel room has a balcony. There is a parking space behind the hostels.

There are two major messes on campus. The Common Mess offers both North and South Indian meals. Additional food items are available at cheap prices. The common mess operates till late night.

Harvey Mess serves South Indian meals only. They serve delicious chicken items that are available at cheap prices. Some external kitchens also offer mess service for students. Other than messes, the canteens (EMS Cafeteria and Lister Canteen) offer good meals at affordable prices. The food served at each of the messes and canteens is of good quality.

JIPMER offers good hostel and mess facilities overall.

Which university is better: West Bengal State University or Calcutta University?

SB
Sushmita Biswas Posted On : June 14th, 2022
B.Sc.(Honors) in Chemistry, University of Calcutta

Calcutta University is widely reputed all across the nation for academics and research. If you have to choose between West Bengal State University and CU, choose CU. However, you should prioritize your subject over the university. For undergraduate degrees, your subject will matter more than the brand value of the university.

Which is better for CSE, NIT Goa or IIITM Gwalior?

NY
Nisha Yadav Posted On : August 23rd, 2021
B.Tech, National Institute of Technology, Goa (2020)

Both the institutes are famous. But for the CSE branch, NIT Goa is the better alternative. The reason is placement and recruiters that visit the campus are much better than IIITM. The placement statistics of NIT Goa are below.

Average Package INR 7.35 LPA
Highest Package INR 20 LPA
Top recruiters  R&D, Samsung, HFCL, etc.

But if you are looking for an excellent hostel and campus life, NITG is not a choice for you. NITG does not have its campus. The current batches adjust in the campus provided by Goa Engineering College (GEC).

B.Tech. from Cochin University Of Science and Technology

According to the order released by the university, CUSAT CGPA to percentage conversion rule is - Percentage = (CGPA - 0.5) * 10

So, you need to subtract 0.5 from your CGPA and then multiply the result by 10. It will give the same result as calculating the total marks awarded and then finding the percentage.
