Which is the best course in NITIE Mumbai among PGDIE, PGDIM, PGDISEM, etc.?

NV

Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2021)

The most important thing you should know is which course will prove to be better for your career, rather than which is the best overall. As some of my friends are from NITIE Mumbai, I can give you a bit of information about PGDIE and PGDIM.

  • Both PGDIE and PGDIM are flagship courses of NITIE.
  • PGDIM is considered to be a management course, whereas PGDIE is a technical course.
  • PGDIE is a more M.Tech equivalent.
  • There are also certain differences between the course curriculum at PGDIE and PGDIM.
  • PGDIE has a batch size of 120. And PGDIM has a batch size of 250.
  • Admissions for PGDIE are done through GATE scores. For PGDIM, CAT scores are considered.
  • The placements of both the courses are good. Students of both these courses sit for placements by almost the same companies.

Therefore, it is suggested that you opt for the one that suits you the best. Ask yourself where your passion lies and will a management course or a technical course be beneficial for you.

Which type of courses are offered by the NITIE Mumbai through the GATE, MBA or MTech?

SP
Shreya Palit Posted On : August 18th, 2021
PGDIM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

I have friends who study at NITIE Mumbai, and these are the 5 different courses the institute offers:

  1. PGDIM (For Industrial Management)
  2. PGDISEM (For Industrial Safety and Environment Management)
  3. PGDIE (For Industrial Engineering)
  4. PGDPM (For Project Management)
  5. PGDMM (For Manufacturing Management)

Moreover, PGDIM and PGDISEM are equivalent to MBA and require you to appear in CAT exam to enroll in either of them.

Other than these few, PGDIE, PGDPM, and PGDMM are equivalent to M.Tech. The admissions are followed by considering the GATE scores which also helps make students eligible for the regular stipend provided by the government to several of these GATE qualifiers.

How is the scenario for a fresher in PGDISEM, NITIE?

Studies PGDIE at NITIE, Mumbai

One of my cousins is a recent graduate of NITIE Mumbai, from the PGDISEM, and through him I got to know a little bit about the program. The fact that you are a fresher will not matter much since the batch size is usually very small.

The major upside of the small batch size is that even top consulting firms, including KPMG, PWC, and others, choose recruiting freshers. The batch my cousin was in, had a majority of the freshers, including him.

Having said that, the freshers of his batch were recruited in companies such as Pepsico, Ultratech, Siemens, Asian Paint, PWC, BASF, Tata Steel. My cousin also secured placement in Aditya Birla Retail.

What should be my GATE rank to be in NITIE, Mumbai?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : May 15th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Admission to NITIE includes 2 steps, getting shortlisted for GDPI based on the GATE score and then clearing the GDPI. The GATE score cut-off lies in the range of 650–700 depending upon the no. of applications. Getting PGDIE/PGDMM/PGDPM as your branch of post-graduation depends upon your profile.

The cutoff is the minimum GATE 2023 score on the basis of which candidates are shortlisted for the selection process. However, shortlisting does not guarantee admission. The final selection is based on the performance of the candidates in the group discussion and personal interview as well as past academic performance.

You can get an idea of the NITIE GATE Cutoff 2023 based on last year's cutoff.

What are pros and cons of NITIE Mumbai?

AM
Aniket Atul Mahulikar Posted On : December 4th, 2020

The pros and cons of the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) are as follows.

Pros:

  • Location: NITIE Mumbai is located in the industrial hub of the country, Mumbai. This provides the students with a lot of options to explore and learn.

  • Alumni base: Like other famous B-schools like IIM A, B, C, FMS, XLRI, etc, NITIE, too, has a strong alumni background with students working worldwide. A large number of NITIE alumni are VPs, CXOs and even some are owners of their own start-ups with great ideas. The alumni of the institute visit the campus often for alumni talks.

  • B-School Challenges: NITIE students are well known for their participation in B-school challenges. In the past, students have participated in competitions like HUL Lime, ITC InterroBang, DCB, Aviva, etc. The success rate of NITIE students in these sorts of competitions is pretty high and it becomes an interesting learning experience.

  • Peer-Group: Anyone joining NITIE is surrounded by experienced people in-between the age group of 21-29. Which gives an opportunity for good peer-learning as many students have experience in the industry.

  • Placement: The placement rate of the institute is 100% with an average CTC around 20 LPA. It is somewhat considered as the most recognized B-school for Supply Chain and Operations. Even IT placements have seen a surge in recent years.

Cons:

  • There is a lack of diversity in NITIE and most of the students are engineers. Also, there is high gender diversity, around 8-10% of girls opt for a management degree in NITIE.

  • NITIE is not preferred to those candidates, who want to pursue a specialization in Finance and HR, as it is a new branch and is still in the initial stages.

  • The brand-name of NITIE is not as reputed as IIMs, XLRI, etc, and the brand recognition is limited to the corporate world.

The pros outweigh the cons for NITIE. Although it is not as recognized, NITIE is one of the top B-School in the country with a NIRF ranking of 12 for MBA.

Which is the best institute for an MBA, IIM Shillong, MDI Gurgaon or NITIE Mumbai?

AC
Anupama Chowdhury Posted On : August 18th, 2022
MBA from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (Graduated 2020)

Among these, NITIE Mumbai is the best institute for an MBA. It is considered the Mecca of Operations and SCM. The Ops and SCM job profiles offered at NITIE Mumbai placements are even better than the ones offered from these sectors at IIM ABCL. The final placement record for 2022 showed the average CTC is INR 24.51 LPA. Highest CTC offered this year was INR 49 LPA.

Locational benefits, a huge alumni base, and a stellar placement record are some of the other factors that work in favor of NITIE.

Which B-school should I join if I have converted TISS, SJMSOM (IITB) and NITIE?

RG
Raktim Ghose Posted On : August 11th, 2021
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Kashipur

All three colleges are on top and choosing one among three is not easy. But I can give you some ideas about them as I have friends studying at these institutes. TISS is one of the most reputed colleges for HRM courses in the country. The top two institutes for HR programs are XLRI and 2nd is TISS. XLRI holds first place due to its history and huge batch size and placements.

  • TISS is growing fast but still doesn’t have the same presence as XLRI has.
  • TISS though has the advantage of a very small batch size compared to XLRI, which means lesser competition.
  • And again TISS is at Bombay while XLRI is at Jamshedpur. I would say TISS is still a very good option for aspirants interested in HR.

NITIE and SOM are the top two colleges in India for operations and supply chain profiles with NITIE being the clear number 1.

  • Long history and a huge batch size result in lots of senior supply chain managers from NITIE across various companies.
  • On the other hand, though 20 years old, SOM was upgraded only recently, to 120 batch size from earlier 60.Students are getting to the top but SOM does not have the same presence as NITIE.
  • NITIE has more recruiting companies with cushy pay packages as compared to SOM. Although SOM is improving its placement numbers rapidly.
  • SOM does boast of elegant IIT B infrastructure and less batch size and hence, lesser competition due to smaller batches.
  • But NITIE would give you more options in terms of placements.

So my preference order will be the following.

TISS (HR) > NITIE (Operations & SCM) > SJMSOM (Finance & others)

So, choose wisely based on your preferred domain. And in case you are interested in Marketing, both NITIE & SJMSOM are equally good.
