It is not possible to manage your M.Tech solely with your stipend.
Given that you score 6.75 CGPA each semester, you’ll be given Rs. 12,400 per month as stipend. The M.Tech tuition fee can be broken down in the following manner-
You’ll have to pay Rs. 1,77,300 for tuition. If you opt for hostel, its total fee will be around Rs. 1,28,000. You’ll be refunded around 20,000 from this amount. So overall, you’ll be spending Rs. 305,300. In 24 months, you’ll earn around Rs. 2,97,600 (if you take only 30 leaves and do regular biometric as suggested by MHRD).
If you opt for a hostel, the total fee will be much higher than your stipend. Thus, it won’t be possible to manage without extra financial support.
At present, VNIT Nagpur is not among the top NITs. As per the 2023 NIRF Engineering rankings, it stands at the 41st position. Among the NITs, it currently ranks 8th as per MHRD.
In the NIRF rankings, you’ll find that the perception score for VNIT is (and has been) very low. Currently, it is 14.88 out of 100. This indicates that the students of this college do not think very highly of it. The obsolete syllabus and unfriendly administration are the prime reasons for student dissatisfaction with VNIT.
VNIT Nagpur is not an underrated college. In fact, it needs a lot of improvement.
As a girl hosteller, I can shed some light on the hostel facilities for M.Tech girls at VNIT Nagpur.
Girl students get a single room from the first year of M.Tech itself. The girls’ hostels are clean, but the rules and regulations are strict. One such rule is the hostel curfew timing which changes each year. It won’t be more than 10pm in any case.
Overall, the hostel facilities are good at VNIT.
I did my M.Tech Civil from VNIT Nagpur. Thus, I can highlight the placement scenario for my specialization (i.e. Transportation Engineering)-
The companies that recruit from VNIT include- AARVEE Associate, LnT ECC, Spectrum Techno Consultants Pvt Ltd, Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited, Onnyx Electronics, JMC Project Ltd, L and T Infra, WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff, Bajaj Reinforcement LLP, etc.
Apart from this, some educational institutes also visit for recruitments. These are- S R Patel College of Engineering, Sandip University and Sandip Foundation, BASE Educational Services Pvt Ltd, Adyant Education Pvt. Ltd, Franchises of Aakash Educational Services Pvt Ltd, Avanti Fellows, A.R.M.I.E.T. Thane, Ballarpur Institute of Technology (BIT), PT Education, and Sharda Group of Institutions.
Around 80% students are placed, both on campus and off campus. This includes those who crack government exams, or are appointed as assistant professors. Some students opt for higher studies, while some obtain a CGPA< 6.75. Both of those aren’t included in these placement stats.
The placements are decent for M.Tech Civil at VNIT Nagpur. The college workload is quite manageable. This allows students to prepare for and crack government exams.
The Department of Architecture and Planning is one of the oldest at VNIT Nagpur. Pursuing B.Arch from VNIT has its own pros and cons, some of which have been discussed below-

I would recommend you make a decision after considering these pros and cons. Whether VNIT is good for B.Arch or not, totally depends on your personal opinion.
To compare two institutes, you need to consider various factors. A few of such parameters are briefed below.
If we compare MNNIT Allahabad and VNIT Nagpur based on these parameters, MNNIT comes ahead, although marginally.
Here is a brief overview of the CSE program offered by the two institutes.

While VNIT Nagpur carries the NIT tag, NSUT is well-known for its CoE.
NSUT follows the updated CBCS curriculum, in which you can choose to study the subjects of your liking. More so, it scrapped off subjects like Manufacturing Processes and Machine Drawing from the CoE curriculum a few years back.
The placements for CoE and IT are especially good at NSUT. Companies regularly visit the campus with placement and internship opportunities. Moreover, the location of NSUT offers good internship and training opportunities.
You should consult some seniors from VNIT as well to get a better understanding of both the options available to you. As far as CoE at NSUT is concerned, it is a good choice in terms of both academics and placements.
VNIT Nagpur has some ‘official’ and ‘unofficial’ rules for 1st year students.
These are-
Though these rules seem rather strict, they will help you bond better with your peers. Despite all the strictness, you’ll enjoy each and every second of your first year at VNIT Nagpur.
At present, the first year students of VNIT Nagpur are allowed to carry laptops. However, laptops aren’t allowed in the classrooms.
This has been done to avoid over consumption of social media content by the students, especially at the cost of their lecture time. Social media addiction has become one of the major concerns of our day and age. The authorities understand the need of going online, but the same has to be limited to some extent.
This is the best time for you to make new friends, interact with people, and join extracurricular activities. Even though mobile is an even greater distraction, it is quite impossible to eliminate it from our lives, even for a second.
Apart from skill enhancement and coding, try to limit your screen time. Make the most of the opportunities in front of you, and make deeper connections with other people.
The authorities are somewhat right in prohibiting the use of laptops in classrooms for first year students.
To get admission into VNIT Nagpur, one has to acquire quite a high rank in JEE Mains. This is especially true for general category candidates.
In 2023, the B.Tech CS cutoff rank was 6916 (for home state) and 7087 (for other states). (This was the cutoff for open category, gender neutral seats). To be in the top 1% for an entrance exam that sees the world’s largest number of applicants, is a big deal.
Thus, it is pretty safe to say that only good students make it to VNIT for their engineering studies.
