How is the IT branch at IIEST Shibpur? How are the faculty and placements related to IT branch? Is it comparable to CSE here?
IT at IIEST Shibpur can be good but you need to utilize the opportunities you get properly. The infrastructure at the institute is good. Microsoft also recruits students from campus placements. In the past students have bagged good internship opportunities. One of the students was accepted for Google California (Internship). Compared to the CSE, the IT branch is a little behind in terms of salary packages offered. However, this branch has good diversity.
Faculties for CSE and IT branches are comparable and the IT department even has better faculty members for a few of the subjects. The main difference between CSE and IT is that IT is a sandwich branch of CST and Electronics. So, naturally, you will need to study some Electronics subjects too. For Communication Systems, the IT branch does not have decent faculties. Adding to that, the subject is also not that useful for the future. Despite that this subject eats a chunk of the time of IT students.
Another difference is CST introduces important subjects like algorithms in the 2nd year itself. Whereas, IT introduces these topics one year later.
Basically, the essence is the same for the two branches, there are some minor differences in curriculum and lab work. How you do in placements depends on your hard work.
Why is the cutoff rank of the IIIT Allahabad IT branch so low (4550 as of 2017) when it is comparable to CS in other NITs and some IITs?
My younger sister has enrolled in the CSE program at NIT and it has excellent facilities for the program. The brand name of NIT and IIT is still more popular for some of the engineering aspirants because they lack awareness. Even my sister thought so before admissions, but NIT ranks #16 on the NIRF Engineering scale, IIIT A ranks #103, and IITs are usually in the top 5 in the same.
Furthermore, your decision may change based on the following-
- The location of IIIT Allahabad is a factor contributing to its low popularity. It is located in a small village area called Jhalwa. There are no recreational facilities around and the only eating outlets are MacDonald's and Dominoes, which harm in the long run.
- The placement statistics of IIIT A show that it has a good 96% placement rate, but not many top companies come to visit because of the location. Networking is not an issue, but an institute in a developed area would have easy accessibility, lectures by renowned faculty, spots of refreshment; which are not present here.
- The hostels are not very good and those who reside in them, face difficulties related to social outings.
- Another fact of importance is that this institute has only two departments: Information Technology and Electronics and Communication.

As you may see, IIIT A and NITs have excellent placement rates. The faculty will be more brilliant at IITs but students are dissatisfied even there. So you can see for yourself according to location, placement scenario, and brand name if that matters.
What do we have to study in each semester for Information technology at MNIT Allahabad?
A semester-wise view of the syllabus is discussed below.
Semester-1:
This is the general semester, where you have to study subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Drawing, Computer Programming language, etc along with labs and tutorials.
Semester-2:
In this semester you study advanced versions of subjects like Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Ecology, etc along with labs and tutorials.
Semester-3:
- By the 3rd semester, you get into the department and then you get to study your branch-related subjects.
- In this semester the courses are Data Structures, Discrete Mathematics, Electronics Signal Processing, and other IT-related subjects.
Semester-4:
- As the 3rd and 4th semesters are crucial, you are taught major stream subjects in-depth such as Algorithms, Graphs and Combinatorics, Automata Theory and Computer Organization, etc.
- There will be labs and tutorials related to the courses in the 4th semester.
Semester-5:
Here you learn important courses like Operating Systems, Computer Networking, Cryptography, and Object-oriented modeling, and computer graphics.
Semester-6:
- In this semester courses such as, Database management, scientific computing, multimedia technology, Software engineering, etc are provided to the students.
- Also by the end of the 6th sem, you are allotted the mini-project.
Semester-7:
- In this Sem, you get to opt for electives.1 open elective and 1 professional elective choice. And other subjects like Digital Image processing, Professional Ethics, Service-oriented software Engg are taught.
- These subjects are very easy and quite scoring. But you will need to work a lot on the project.
Semester-8:
- In this semester, the department offers 1 open elective and 2 professional electives
- Apart from these, the courses are Privacy-preserving Data publishing, Research Trends in IT.
You should start coding and learning the basics of programming languages on your own. This will help you get prepared for internships.
During your years in MNNIT, I would advise you to maintain good pointers and pay attention to coding and competitive programming. Score well in subjects and try to focus more on highlighted courses because companies ask questions from those courses. Also, make good projects.
Which should I choose: IIIT Allahabad (IT) or BITS Pilani campus (Manufacturing)?
When it comes to making a decision about your higher education, it is important to consider all your options and choose the one that best fits your goals and interests.
If you are considering taking Manufacturing at Pilani with the hope of transferring to a different branch after the first year, it's important to keep in mind that branch transfers are not guaranteed and can be difficult to obtain. Therefore, it might not be the best option for you if you are not genuinely interested in pursuing a degree in Manufacturing.
Instead, you might want to consider IIIT Allahabad for its IT program. It is a well-respected institution with a good faculty and a reputation for producing skilled graduates. Plus, it might be a better fit for you if you are interested in pursuing a career in IT or related fields.
Another option to consider is taking a dual degree at BITS. This will give you the opportunity to pursue a degree in a related field and increase your chances of being accepted into a CS program at BITS. This can be a good option if you are willing to put in the effort and time required for a dual degree program.

Which should I join, IT KIIT or CSE, at Amrita?
Joining KIIT will be a better option. The institute gives students the freedom to explore the things that interest them. It’s easy to score good grades with a little bit of effort. So, you will have a lot of time on your hand to explore and learn.
The institute offers good placements. Top MNCs like Microsoft, CodeNation, Amazon, Vmware, Directi, etc. are among the major recruiters that take part in KIIT placement. According to recent placement highlights, students of KIIT received an average CTC of around INR 6.05 LPA.
Which is best: IT at MNNIT, Allahabad; IT at IIIT, Allahabad; CSE at BIT, Mesra; or CSE at MANIT, Bhopal?
My brother is currently studying IT at IIIT Allahabad and according to his first-hand experience and your interest in IT, the order of preference for you should be:
IIITA>MNNIT>BITM>MANIT
It is because if you are genuinely interested in IT then IIIT Allahabad is the best option you can choose because of the following key points:
- The campus is well equipped in terms of infrastructure and facilities and the coding culture is quite good there. Also, it is an institute specifically made for IT, so the infrastructure is planned according to it.
- The course structure at IIIT Allahabad is also strikingly different from what you'll find at any other engineering college in India. It focuses a lot on programming and electronics-related subjects, right from the first year itself.
In NITs, you need to study a lot of subjects not at all related to your branch or course!
However, MNNIT or BIT Mesra may prove to be better options in case you realize that computers are not your cup of tea and decide to go into the non-tech sector. You will have a lot of diverse companies visiting these campuses, while in IIIT Allahabad you’ll see only IT companies coming to recruit.
Also, JEE Main rank of all the options you mentioned will differ from each other. So your rank also plays a major role in selection.
Which is better, the IT branch in NIT Raipur or the CS branch in IIIT Surat?
If you are interested in studying Computer Science or Coding, then you can take admission in IIIT Surat. In the following several comparisons between these two institutes are listed.
Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)
- IIIT Surat is based on the Private and Public Partnership that is PPP. It gets funds from the Government of India, the State Government of Gujrat, and some Industry Stakeholders.
- The brand name of IIIT Surat is quite similar to IIT, additionally with the national tag.

Thus, it can be mentioned that IIITs are the best than NITs, specifically if the students want to establish their career in Electronics and Computer Science. Rather, for other branches, NITs are good, without any doubt.
Which one is good, CSE from IIIT Kottayam or IT from IIIT Bhopal? I am from Delhi and also knowing that IIIT Kottayam will have permanent campus.

- Curriculum: The curriculum mentor of IIIT Kottayam is IIIT Hyderabad which is one of the top-notch institutes for CSE in India. On the other hand, the curriculum mentor of IIIT Bhopal is MANIT Bhopal which doesn’t match the level of IIIT Hyderabad.

Which is better CSE from BPIT or IT from MSIT (second shift)?
MSIT is definitely better than BPIT when it comes to computer science engineering. BPIT is not that bad but not as good when compared to MSIT.

Overall, there isn’t much difference between the two colleges. If you are planning to pursue your post-graduate studies, the college will probably not matter but your studies definitely will. You should also take into account the distance you might have to travel every day which could play a major role.

Which is better: CSE at BIT Mesra or IT at NIT Allahabad?
My friends and I, being a part of BIT Mesra, know very well that their CSE department compared to IT at NIT Allahabad is much better. BIT is considered among the top colleges in India.
The main reason for choosing BIT Mesra over NIT Allahabad is their amazing records in placement. In the year 2020 BT Mesra has seen the participation of a total of 141 companies. One of them offered the highest salary package of 40.63 LPA. In the year 2019 more than 859 students secured job offers from the placement drive.

Thus it is recommended that you opt for CSE at BIT Mesra. It will provide you with the proper exposure to the industry and its work culture. Though both are good, it is suggested that you go for CSE at BIT Mesra rather than IT at NIT Allahabad.
