Where should I enroll, NIT Surathkal (mining engineering) or PES University (computer science)?

AS
Aditi Sinha Posted On : May 11th, 2022
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2022)

There is no clear winner in this comparison. If you are interested in Mining Engineering and want to learn fundamental and core technicalities, then NIT Surathkal will be better. As an institute, NITK is better than other engineering colleges in Karnataka. It offers better academics, exposure, facilities, and campus life. For Mining, NIT Surtahkal placements are great. Coal India visits NITK for recruiting students. The average CTC received by the students of this bench is INR 5-6 LPA.

But if you aren’t particularly interested in Mining Engineering, then you should choose CSE at PES University. In the current industry landscape, CSE offers better placements with cushy salary packages.

Which should I prefer, CSE at IIT Guwahati or electrical (5 years) at IIT Bombay?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : May 6th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

I always find comparing two branches very illogical because the entire purpose of branches is to cater to the interests of different people. One stream might be good for you but not for the other and vice versa.

An electrical engineer works with impressive technologies like microprocessors or communication systems. A computer engineer on the other hand achieves great things through his computer. It’s better to read about machine learning classification.

Some students prefer judging colleges on the basis of the kind of environment they offer. Both IIT Bombay and IIT Guwahati have a great academic environment and offer excellent exposure. Both the colleges are good in all aspects like placements, location, and academics. Don’t follow the trends and standards set by society and follow what your heart says!

Is the CGC Landran a good college to do a B.Tech in CSE?

AR
Arun Raina Posted On : February 16th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Chandigarh Engineering College (2017)

CGC Landran is an average college for CSE but it is better than any other colleges in the North. The good thing about CSE is that you don’t need a reputed college to learn about CSE. You can learn the required skills with a laptop. If you have the required skill set, you also do not have to worry about placements.

The table below has a brief overview of the CSE program at CGC Landran.

Average CTC

4-4.5 LPA

Course Fee

3.62 lakhs

Discussed below are a few of the factors that you should know about CGC Landran.

Placements: CGC Landran has a pretty decent placement record and it is improving every year. Top companies like Google and Microsoft visit the campus for recruitments. After pursuing B.Tech in CSE, you will have a definite chance to get placed in one of the IT companies.

TPP Classes: The newly launched training and placement programs help the students to become industry-ready. Though you will be charged an extra amount of Rs. 4500 but these skills like programming, aptitude, and soft skills will help you in final placements.

Fee: In comparison to other colleges, the fee of CGC Landran is much less. Thus, it really doesn’t hurt your pocket much to study in this college.

Attendance:

  • The 75% attendance criteria is criticized among the students a lot but if you really want to learn and grow, you must attend the class. The college follows 75% attendance criteria mandatory.
  • The attendance is calculated every fortnight. And if you have less than 75% attendance in the first fortnight then you can maintain an equivalent balance in the next fortnight.

Practicals:

  • CGC only prepares students for the PTU examination. In the class, only the PTU syllabus is covered. Teachers do not have good knowledge of projects.
  • If you want to learn about projects, you have to join various project clubs on campus.

So, overall the college helps its students a lot. Every college has some advantages and disadvantages and so does this college. But at the same time, you will get the best out of this college if you study hard.

Is mathematics and computing branch is similar to CSE in IIT Delhi?

SG
Sushmita Gupta Posted On : April 10th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Mathematics and Computing (M&C) is a branch offered at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and is quite similar to the CSE branch in the sense that both focus on the study of computer science and technology. However, it’s important to note that M&C is more inclined towards mathematics and its applications in computing, while CSE focuses more on the engineering aspects of computer science.

Both branches offer similar courses in programming, algorithms, data structures, and software development, but M&C additionally covers math-oriented topics like Differential Equations, Number Theory, Linear Optimization, Algebra, Calculus, etc.

There are a number of courses like Discrete Mathematical Structures taught at both departments but separately by professors of the respective departments.

Both branches are the most coveted branches and all companies opening job profiles for one branch offer the same to the other branch because of the similar nature of the branches.

What should I know before going to NIT Patna for CSE?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 31st, 2023

I would like to congratulate you for getting into NIT Patna for your CSE. The first-year curriculum isn’t difficult and you can easily score a good CGPA.

The tips I’m going to share below will really help you, given that you religiously follow them-

  1. Before joining, revise these topics from 11th and 12th- Calculus, Algebra, Matrices, Trigonometry, Physical and Organic Chemistry, Physics (Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Modern Physics), and English (Grammar and Written Composition).
  2. Before the start of classes, start learning C language. It is the syllabus of sem-1.
  3. Download GeeksforGeeks to learn coding. You’ll get help with algorithms, data structures, and interview preparation.
  4. As you continue learning the C language, start problem-solving on Hackerrank. This is an online platform to practice coding.
  5. You’ll be taught Java in semester 2. Learn it on your own in advance and solve related problems on Hackerrank.
  6. After a while, you can switch to Codechef, which is another coding platform.
  7. After the mid-semester of second semester, learn data structures and algorithms. Compete in online hackathons.
  8. After the second semester, start learning either Web Development or Android Development. During the semester break, apply for internships on platforms like Internshala.

I hope that you have a great time at NIT Patna and make lifelong memories on campus.

Should I prefer JMI CSE or DTU mechanical?

RM
Rahul Mishra Posted On : April 16th, 2021
B.Tech Civil Engineering, Delhi Technological University (2023)

Among the above two institutes, for students interested specifically in computer science, JMI CSE should be a better option. But, students having no specific preference in streams should consider Mechanical at DTU.

The table below gives a brief level of comparison among the two departments of the institutes.

Particulars

CSE at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Delhi

Mechanical Engineering at Delhi Technological University (DTU)

NIRF ’20 Ranking

28

36

Total Fees (B.Tech)

Rs. 64,600

Rs. 7.8 Lakhs

Median Salary Offered

Rs. 7.2 LPA

Rs. 9 LPA

Total Number of Seats

70

185

Key Highlights:

  • As discussed above, students interested in Computer Science and IT should take JMI CSE, which generally has some decent opportunities. The top 7% of the batch gets more than 7 LPA package salary in JMI CSE.
  • Students having no specific preference can choose DTU Mechanical, which provides a large amount of exposure inside the campus, along with several good opportunities during and after the course.
  • Students at DTU Mechanical usually get a 7.5+ LPA package offer in some of the best companies working in the core mechanical sector. The course of DTU Mechanical is considered to be one of the best in India.
  • JMI has much lesser fees than DTU, which makes it a lot of a more preferred option. For students successful in getting a decent placement offer at JMI, it provides a much better return on investment than DTU.

Considering all the above factors, both the institutes have their own set of advantages and are worth considering.

What should I prefer: Mechanical Engineering at HBTI, Kanpur or CSE at IET, Lucknow?

AL
Ajay Lakhra Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studied at Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow

Both of the institutions are situated at a distance of 80 km from each other. IET Lucknow is situated in the industrial capital of Uttar Pradesh and the HBTI Kanpur is situated in the Political capital. If you live in one of the two cities, you can choose accordingly; otherwise, this factor has no significance.

  1. According to AKTU, both the institutes are ranked at number 1 and number 2 in UP, but the situation is completely different analytically. HBTI is a well-known institution and has been the parent institute of IIT Kanpur and Uttar Pradesh Textile Institute.
  2. Both the institutes are government-run with complete control over examinations and the curriculum of courses offered by them.
  3. If you enjoy programming, Computer Science would be the appropriate course for you, while Mechanical Engineering is for those who want to acquire a genuine sense of what engineering is all about.
  4. The faculty of IET Lucknow is better than that of HBTI.
  5. You will have numerous opportunities outside the campus. The placement statistics for the mechanical department are not very good at both institutes, but placement in the CS department is extremely good.

Make your decision based on the branch and not the institution as it would have a major impact on your career.

Can I get CSE at Thapar University with 127 marks in the Mains, general outside Punjab?

AR
Adarsh Roy Posted On : August 7th, 2023
Studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

Yes, you can get CSE at Thapar University easily even if you don’t hail from Punjab. The reason is even with low marks students can get some other branch and then appear for the December Test to upgrade their branch to CSE. You need to be among the top 20 students to upgrade your branch to CSE.  Another option is to make sure you have a 9.7 CGPA or higher in the first year. This will increase your chances of upgrading your branch to CSE.

The subjects taught in the first to students of all branches are the same so you won’t lag behind in your branch. Also, the pattern and syllabus of the December test are exactly like JEE Mains so you don’t have to worry about preparing for it separately.

Hope this helped you!

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : October 18th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Frankly speaking, both Electronics and Instrumentation and CSE are equally good branches that open up ample opportunities in the future. Let us have a brief comparison of the NIT Silchar, E&I, and TEZU.

Infrastructure – TEZU is leading in terms of the best infrastructure and well-equipped lab facilities, especially in the CSE branch.

Faculty – TEZU is gifted with more highly qualified and experienced faculties than others.

Placement – NITs and TEZU have had a good record of placement in recent years.

Research – CSE has an active and advanced research environment at TEZU.

Other than the qualities of the institute, your initial preference should be given to your interest in the core subject.

Should I opt for PEC CSE or NIT Jalandhar CSE?

NK
Nitin Kashyap Posted On : December 3rd, 2022
BTech (Computer Science) from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (NITJ)

If you are confused between PEC and Jalandhar for CSE, I would suggest going for NIT Jalandhar. Here you will avail some additional benefits like:

  • More experienced faculty and thereby better teaching quality.

  • The tag of being an NIT student is quite valuable.

  • Students belonging to financially weak strata can get fees relaxation. Exact details can be sought from the official website.

  • Placements are much better at NIT Jalandhar than PEC. The highest package offered at NIT Jalandhar this year was INR 62 LPA while that at PEC was INR 43 LPA

  • NIT Jalandhar had been ranked 52 by the NIRF rankings in 2020, while the PEC Chandigarh had been ranked 68 by the NIRF.

NIT Jalandhar has a lot more to offer than PEC. Also, it’s brand name will help you in the future.
