Which school is better, MDI Gurgaon or IIM K, if I want to be an equity research analyst?

YG
Yash Gupta Posted On : February 22nd, 2023
MBA in Finance from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune (Graduated 2014)

If you go to the official website and compare the placement reports, MDI Gurgaon fares better than IIM Kozhikode. Let’s have a look at the placement statistics of the 2 B Schools.

Particulars

MDI

IIM Kozhikode

Number of Recruiters

87

116

Highest CTC

INR 1.14 CPA

INR 61.5 LPA

Average CTC

INR 26.65 LPA

INR 29.5 LPA

Top Recruiters

Microsoft, Google, HCL, Adobe

Accenture, Amazon, Microsoft

The best finance companies that offer roles like Equity Research Analyst roles, and Securities analysis visit both the B Schools. But the higher number of companies visiting MDI Gurgaon gives it a slight advantage over IIM Kozhikode. Yet I think both MDI Gurgaon and IIM-K are almost equal in terms of giving you the opportunity of getting an Equity Research Analyst role. If I was in your place I would have chosen MDI Gurgaon because of the following factors

  • Location
  • Infrastructure
  • The industry-academia relationship
  • Live Projects
  • Guest Lectures
  • Corporate Talks
  • Peer learning

How is the campus life of MBA colleges (for eg. JBIMS, NMIMS, NITIE) in Mumbai as compared to other cities?

SR
Sivani Rai Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied at SVKM's NMIMS

Out of all the colleges, only NITIE offers a fully-fledged campus life.

  • NMIMS has a ten-floor building in a posh area of Mumbai. The institute also has a small hostel for their students in Mukesh Patel but it is not good. Though the girl’s hostel is decent. Overall, you won’t be able to enjoy the flavors of campus life like in IIMs or other colleges such as SIBM.
  • JBIMS just has a small building that is not well developed and looks like an old government college building in the posh area of Mumbai, i.e. Church gate Nariman point. JBIMS offers hostel facilities to their students in the hostels of University of Mumbai. But these hostel accommodations are only given to students from outside of Mumbai.
  • NITIE has a well-developed campus in the Powai area. The campus is surrounded by Vidya Vihar and Powai lake from the west side and the IIT B campus from the east side.

If you wish to study in Mumbai then you will definitely miss campus life except at SJSOM and NITIE.

Is IIM tag really important in the long run? I have a call from NITIE (PGDIM), IIM Shillong and MDI (HR and IB, PGDM is a little waitlisted). What should be my order of preference?

SG
Sandeep Goyal Posted On : January 16th, 2023
, PGDM Marketing & Operations Management, Indian Institute of Management Shillong (2018)

Let me strike off IIM Shillong from your list of preferences. This is because no matter how well it is doing, it can never compare to the older IIMs and the recruiting companies know that very well. Now let’s look at the other two options.

NITIE: This option is a feasible one only if you are interested in Operations. I won’t suggest it for any other domain.

MDI Gurgaon: From the alumni base to location advantage, this B School has it all. Now that you have chosen your college, let’s discuss the domain you will be choosing. I will suggest you go for HR only if you are seriously passionate about it. If you are confused between HR and Operations, the best option is the IM course. The PGP-IM of MDI, Gurgaon is the best International management course in India. Its USP is its generic nature making it possible for you to start your career in any domain like marketing, finance, Consulting, or product management.

Is there a chance of conversion of an IMT Ghaziabad PGDM call? I have a GMAT score of 660, 10th - 91.2%, and 12th - 87.6%.

AJ
Arshit Jain Posted On : March 1st, 2023
Studied at IMT Ghaziabad

When considering applying to IMT Ghaziabad for its Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) program, it is important to understand the various admission requirements and factors that are taken into consideration during the selection process.

One of the key factors that IMT Ghaziabad considers is the GMAT score of an applicant. The GMAT cut-off for IMT Ghaziabad has typically been around 650 over the years. Therefore, having a score above this threshold will increase one's chances of being considered for admission. Additionally, having good scores in 10th and 12th standard exams will also be considered a positive factor.

It is worth noting that GMAT is accepted worldwide and is considered a valuable indicator of one's ability to succeed in management studies. Therefore, IMT Ghaziabad, being one of the top B-Schools in the country, places a high emphasis on GMAT scores. Additionally, IMT Ghaziabad follows most of the norms of the National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF), which is an independent body that ranks institutions of higher education in India. Therefore, having strong scores in all areas will increase your chances of conversion to the IMT Ghaziabad PGDM call.

Overall, while there are multiple factors considered in the admission process, having a strong GMAT score and good academic performance in 10th and 12th standard exams can significantly increase one's chances of being selected for the PGDM program at IMT Ghaziabad.

I got an MBA seat both in Hyderabad Central University and Gitam University Vizag. Which is better in terms of placements and faculty?

WG
Writam Gupta, Posted On : November 10th, 2021
studied Master of Computer Applications at University of Hyderabad (2018)

Among Hyderabad Central University (HCU) and GITAM University Vizag, it is suggested that you go for Hyderabad Central University.

  • Studying at Hyderabad Central University will be a much safer option, considering academics and placements.
  • Being a central university and entertaining politically affiliated student organizations on campus catches the attention of national media.
  • The faculty is much more interactive here, and are more than willing to stay back after work if guidance is required.
  • GITAM has better hostels than Hyderabad Central University.
  • HCU has much lower fees compared to GITAM.

Lastly, placements majorly depend on the individual and not on the institution. So, if you work hard no matter the institution, you will definitely secure a good placement offer from a reputed company.

Is it worth doing MBA program in CMS NALSAR?

AR
Abhilash Roy Posted On : September 3rd, 2021
MBA from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad (2018)

One of my friends graduated from CMS Nalsar University and here is her insight on the MBA program. According to her, here are some of the reasons why you should consider CMS NALSAR for your MBA.

  • You will have good exposure. There is a mandate of 2 live projects and 1 internship.
  • There is a lot of focus on the implementation of practical knowledge. For example, it has an MoU with T-Hub. This will give you a chance to intern at start-ups and get a sneak peek into the start-up world.
  • As a student of CMS NALSAR, you will get to learn the techniques of investor pitching and branding. CMS completely changes your persona.
  • If you are looking primarily at placements with fancy salaries or established firms, you will be a little disappointed. The institute still needs a little time to mature. According to the recent placement highlights the highest and average CTC offered to the MBA students at CMS were 10 LPA and 5 LPA respectively. Overall, if you are self-motivated and not affected by the white noise, you can make the most of your time there.

Doing an MBA from a Law school can be daunting, as it is a road less taken. But my friend swears it was the best decision she has made so far.

  • Primavera - This is the advanced version of MSP with some changes in its interface.
  • Excel - Risk.
  • Candy - This is used for cost and quantity estimation.
  • Tally - It is used for Project Accounting.
  • MS Access - It is used for records management and project reviewing.

Among all these MS Project will be mostly used for your project. Also, most companies use MSP for planning.

Gathering more information and knowledge about the Project Management System is important because it is the core of the course. It will definitely be helpful for securing a job offer.

Why/why not MBA from IIT Delhi(DMS)?

AD
Adiksha Das Posted On : April 11th, 2023
Studied at Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi

While many MBA aspirants consider nothing better than IIMs, I have an altogether different opinion in this regard. This opinion stems from my sister's experience last year when she completed her MBA from DMS, IIT Delhi.

  • IIT Delhi is a magical place that harnesses your talents to the fullest and helps you identify your strengths and overcome your weaknesses.
  • An excellent peer group promotes healthy competition and growth
  • The overall ambiance and culture at the IIT combined with the rich alumni base make it possible to gain an enriching experience.
  • The older the institute and program the more brand value it carries. IITs MBA program dates back to 1997 and fulfills this age criterion excellently.
  • The most important is the fees which are less than half the fees of other top B Schools. This results in great return on investment with the placements being almost on par with most B Schools
  • The small batch size of 120 promotes great peer interactions as well as student-teacher relations.

I certainly don’t mean to undermine the B schools, what I mean is IIT Delhi DMS is not that bad an idea for an MBA.

Which one is better for pursuing an MBA: IBS Hyderabad or IIM Sambalpur?

AT
Akash Tiwari Posted On : January 24th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Amritsar

First of all, it’s wrong to compare IIM Sambalpur with a below-average institution like IBS Hyderabad. IIM Sambalpur might be a new IIM but it is still among the tier 3 colleges whereas IBS Hyderabad is nowhere near.

My friend is currently pursuing an MBA from IIM Sambalpur and has listed the following pros and cons of the institute

Pros

  • Under the mentorship of IIM Indore, IIM Sambalpur is slowly making its mark in the IIM family. It welcomes visiting faculties from IIM Indore which also shares the research work and other material with Sambalpur
  • IIM Sambalpur might soon become an educational center as it hosts one of the oldest engineering colleges of the state which is on its way to becoming an IIEST, a very reputed government medical college and a couple of other well-known government universities.
  • The airstrip near the city might soon become an airport in the near future thereby enhancing connectivity.
  • Although it functions from a leased campus, the infrastructure is top notch

Cons

  • It does not have its own campus and functions from leased premises
  • The campus is situated 20 km away from the city and the nearest railway station in a lowly private engineering college.
  • The placement is nowhere near the IIM standards
  • Weak alumni base due to recent establishment
  • The faculties are mediocrely experienced
  • The lack of connectivity is a major reason for poor placements. The nearest functional airport is in Bhubaneswar, 350 km away.

All in all IIM Sambalpur is a decent choice if you are passionate about the IIM tag only and have limited options. Some years down the line it might improve in brand value as well. So go for it if it’s the tag you are after but go for ISB if you want a better teaching experience.
