  • If you are looking for a job after B.Tech or M.Tech then ECE will be a good option for you.

Which is better, NIT Jamshedpur or NIT Silchar?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 4th, 2023

NIT Silchar is definitely better than NIT Jamshedpur in all possible aspects. I am not saying this just because it's ranked much higher than NIT Jamshedpur, but NIT Silchar's research culture and placement statistics are way better than NIT Jamshedpur. Despite operating from a place where there are issues related to communication, transportation, and development, it has become one of the top NITs. The students are left in awe of the beauty of the campus.

I will suggest never comparing colleges on the basis of placements alone. N that case many private colleges have better placements yet people run after IITs and NITs because of the brand value, the crowd, the legacy, and the research activities. It's a well-known institute among the faculty and students of top IITs. The Director Prof. S. Bandyopadhyay is working on improving the institute's reputation by holding many national and international events.

Refer to the table below for a brief comparison

Is NIT Jamshedpur for civil engineering good in terms of placements and packages? What is the average package for a civil engineer?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 1st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

The answer to this question depends on your interpretation of a good placement.

If you are looking for a decent core/ non core job, NIT Jamshedpur Civil won’t disappoint you. However, if you are looking for very high packages from top brands, you’ll be disappointed. In fact, any core branch (civil, mechanical, electrical, production, metallurgy etc.), won’t fetch you high packages. This can happen only if you have graduated from an old IIT, BITS Pilani, or any other top Engineering college.

For 2023, CE saw 97.29% placements and an average CTC of INR 9.57 LPA.

One can’t assess placement figures correctly through the average package. High salary offers for a handful of students inflate the entire figure. Try to research the future prospects of Civil, and explore your interests.

But overall, the placements are quite good at the Civil department of NIT Jamshedpur. You can expect plenty of offers and a decent salary package.

Should I choose NIT Jamshedpur for a CS/ECE or NIT Allahabad in chemical? Can I go for a branch change next year?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : September 4th, 2023

NIT Allahabad is a better choice than NIT Jamshedpur, especially for CSE. If you are not getting CSE, try going for IT because the branches are somewhat similar. Moreover, NIT Allahabad has options for internal sliding too so you can try your luck there. Chances of sliding to CSE are rare so you can try going for IT instead.

Also, If you are considering joining a core branch, except CSE, IT, and ECE, remember that you will have to appear for GATE in the last year to get a job in PSUs.

NIT Jamshedpur

NIT Allahabad

Fees

Which is better, NIT Raipur or NIT Jamshedpur?

SP
Shankar Pandey Posted On : April 10th, 2023
B.Tech Production and Industrial Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (2020)

If you're trying to decide between NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Raipur, here are some key points to consider:

  • There is a difference of many years between the establishment of the two institutes. NIT Jamshedpur was established in 1960, while NIT Raipur was established in 1956.
  • NIT Jamshedpur has a better campus than NIT Raipur, which can be seen as an advantage for students.
  • On the other hand, NIT Raipur lacks infrastructure. However, it is important to note that efforts are being made to improve the infrastructure of the institute. A new area has been allotted to NIT Raipur in the Naya Raipur region for the development of a better campus and infrastructure.
  • When it comes to placements and academics, both institutes are equally well-regarded.
  • Some other factors that you may want to consider when choosing between NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Raipur include the location of the institutes, the courses offered, and the faculty.
  • NIT Jamshedpur is located in Jharkhand, while NIT Raipur is located in Chhattisgarh. This may impact factors such as accessibility, cost of living, and cultural experiences.
  • Both institutes offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering and technology. You may want to consider the specific courses offered and whether they align with your career goals.
  • The faculty of both institutes are highly qualified and experienced. You may want to research the faculty members in your area of interest to get a better understanding of the quality of education you can expect.

While there are differences between NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Raipur in terms of campus and infrastructure, both institutes are equally well-regarded for their placements and academics. When making your decision, it is important to consider factors such as location, courses offered, and faculty in addition to the infrastructure of the institutes.

Lives in New Delhi

Here is a one-to-one comparative analysis of NIT Silchar and NIT Jamshedpur based on these aspects

Placements: The placement scenario is slightly better at NIT Jamshedpur than at NIT Silchar. Last year the average package for NIT Jamshedpur stood at INR 14.72 LPA while that of NIT Silchar stood at INR 13.58 LPA.

Campus life: NIT Jamshedpur has a very monotonous and inactive college life whereas NIT Silchar is known to have quite a dynamic campus life with many clubs and societies.

Infrastructure: NIT Jamshedpur has very poor infrastructure. Apart from the newly established hostels and a newly constructed grand academic building, there is nothing more to the college's infrastructure. NIT Silchar on the other hand has top-notch infrastructure with many facilities such as gymkhana, student activity center, auditorium, and other sports facilities. It has a very lush green campus that is heaven for nature lovers.

In all, NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Silchar offer similar job opportunities but NIT Silchar has slightly better campus life and infrastructure.

The recently constructed Mega Hostels are home to all freshers of NIT Jamshedpur. These hostels are the best as they have modern facilities, unlike the old hostels. The building is 6 stories with around 800 rooms, and every student gets a single occupancy room.

A typical room in NIT Jamshedpur Mega hostel has a balcony, two cupboards, a bed, a study table, a chair, a tube light, a bracket lamp, and a ceiling fan.

How good is metallurgy in NIT Jamshedpur?

SG
Shubhodip Ghosh Posted On : April 22nd, 2021
B.tech from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur, graduated in 2019

One of my friends who used to be a student in Jamshedpur says that all hostels of NIT Jamshedpur have equal value. The faculty is also experienced and good at teaching as far as the academic background is concerned. The faculty takes enthusiasm in its teaching and is also energetic. One of the teachers was not only the associate Dean but also the chief warden at the same time. There was also talk that he might just be the next Dean of the students’ welfare department.

The cultural students, technical festival, sports meet, and alumni meet consist of a lot of students from the metallurgy. ‘Technica’ is also a popular event for metallurgy students. There are also technical teams like Daksh, Drift, Phoenix, etc where you can work in.
