I have got 83% in CAT 2016 and 98 % in XAT. Is it worth to go for IMT Ghaziabad or XIMB this year or should I try for 1 more year?

CAT 2014

It crucially depends on where in life an individual stands at present. However, if you anyhow are on the side with basically lower work experience, then you can be expected to take another chance likewise, but if you are on the higher side, then you can definitely concentrate on converting either IMT Ghaziabad, or XIMB without further hesitation as such.

IMT Ghaziabad is known to accept students on the basis of their CAT, XAT or GMAT scores. Basically, other than that, taking a minimum chance would primarily be based on your capabilities, encouragement and intrinsic or extrinsic factors that are moreover expected to affect over the 12 months which are yet to pass on in the institute you are enrolled in.

However, on the very contrary, if you have obtained 98 percentile, then you also can try for XLRI. Besides, if you recently have felt that the CAT score you have acquired is mainly below your actual capability, then trying again will not affect your eligibility in the future.

Should I join XIMB or re-attempt CAT?

KC

XIMB is a good college but if you are willing to retake the CAT, you have a good chance of getting into a tier 1 college. In the long run, a tier 1 college makes a significant difference in terms of brand name, association, peers, and a strong alumni network.

One of my friends re-took the CAT exam. He mentioned some important factors you could focus on:

It seems that you have a good profile. You haven't mentioned anything about your work experience. Assuming you are a recent graduate, It is suggested that you get a job.

  • It can help you gain a better understanding of the path you want to take after earning your MBA.
  • In addition, almost all IIMs award points for work experience.
  • Working in a firm also allows you to gain insight into some real-world corporate issues.
  • You can use this in your B-school interviews as well.
  • If you have a non-engineering background, there is no problem; according to the trends this year, almost all IIMs are awarding extra points for academic diversity.

However, If you believe that your performance was unsatisfactory, you still have a full year to improve.

It seems you are unsure about the branch you are interested in. Both PGDM and HR are diverse branches and one needs to first determine the field they are interested in only then they can make a sound decision.

If you are interested in HR, then choose XIMB HR without any second thoughts. It's the best HR program in the country. However, it's important to note that in this field your academics and profile building matter more than anything. Xavier School of HRM will provide ample opportunities for you.

An MBA in HR requires you to scale up for which you need a better skill set and a better learning experience that you can get at XIMB and not Tapni. However, if you are unsure of your interests, go for a PGDM in Tapmi.

Here is a brief overview of these branches

How easy is it to convert XIMB?

AM
Aratrika Mohanty Posted On : April 17th, 2021
MBA General Management, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (2018)

In terms of converting XIMB Bhubaneswar or any B-school for that matter, it is the same. If someone has cracked it in his/her first attempt, then cracking XIMB would be easier. If someone has gone through the entire selection process multiple times without success, then it would be a herculean task.

  • The first thing that is in your control is your score in CAT or XAT. Try to score as much as possible to bolster your application.
  • The next step would be handling your interviews.
  • Practice writing and give your best possible shot at the WAT.
  • Present your best of abilities to the interview panel with a calm demeanor.
  • Do not overburden yourself with cracking the interview and be as open to them as possible.
  • Some basic knowledge in your domain of expertise (undergraduate major) is a must.
  • You should know all the projects you have done in your academic as well as professional life thoroughly.
  • Some basic knowledge about the world of business, the state of Odisha (XIMB’s home state) as well as your own home state is a plus.
  • Remain updated about recent news and happenings around the world, as questions related to them will be asked very often.

These are certain tips for personal interview (PI) preparation that may or may not work for everybody. Ultimately, converting XIMB Bhubaneswar is in your hands and how well you put yourself.

Is XUB different from XIMB? What is the fee structure for XUB and placements?

SP
Shivam Putra Posted On : March 13th, 2023
Former Consultant at KPMG (2019–2021)

XUB is not exactly different from XIMB. XUB comprises more schools like

  • school of commerce
  • school of mass communication
  • school of economics and sustainability development

In addition there are several PG courses like MBF and it now even offers graduation in Science. Despite the variety of courses offered, the primary focus is MBA. While at XIMB the only course offered is MBA.

Both the campuses are well built far from the city saving them from hectic city traffic. XUM still has some buildings under construction. Excellent food and transport facilities make them a more attractive choice.

Of the two, XIMB was established earlier so enjoys more brand name and value than XUB. XIMB value can be determined through All India Rankings which is not possible in the case of XUB.

Which is better XIMB HR or IIM Nagpur?

AS
Ajay Singh Posted On : January 17th, 2023
MBA in Master of Business Administration Degrees & Marketing, Vienna University of Economics and Business (Graduated 2017)

One of my friends pursued BTech from a renowned IIT and even had work experience when he got an offer from IIM Nagpur. He wasn’t sure if joining it would be worth it but a few months into the college made him realize that it was one of the best decisions of his life. He claimed that the following points convinced him to join IIM Nagpur

  • The IIM Ahmedabad mentorship
  • The IIM tag
  • The pedagogy is top-notch coming from the best professors of IIM Ahmedabad
  • You get to spend one trimester in IIM Ahmedabad which itself is a lifetime experience
  • The student exchange programs allow you to study at a foreign university for 3 months

I have seen many people forgoing offers from XIMB-BM, IIM Kashipur, IIM Indore- Mumbai campus VGSOM and all the newest IIMs to join IIM Nagpur. Its fast-paced growth and promising placement opportunities are the main reasons for the same. So I think IIM Nagpur is way better than XIMB.

Which MBA is better for operations: XIMB or NMIMS?

RD
Rittim Das Posted On : March 13th, 2023
Studied at Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development (2017)

If I was in your place, I would have gone for NMIMS. Operation profiles are usually offered in these 3 industries.

  • FMCG
  • E-commerce
  • Consulting

Comparing these industries, you will find NMIMS as the best option. There are many big companies from these industries that visit NMIMS like

  1. FMCG: ITC , Dabur, HUL, Marico, Asian Paints, Pidilite, Kelloggs, Loreal, HCCB, Britannia, Perfetti.
  2. Most of these companies do not visit XIMB and even if they do the roles offered are average.
  3. E-Commerce: Flipkart, Amazon, Shopclues, Girnarsoft(Car Dekho), Bluestone. None of these visited XIMB.
  4. Finance: Goldman Sachs, Nomura, JP Morgan, ICICI Bank
  5. IT: Microsoft, Google, SAP, Cisco, National Instruments
  6. Conglomerates: GE, Mahindra, etc.

All in all, the top recruiters combined with locational advantage, industry relations, and broad career prospects make NMIMS the better option of the two.
