A close friend of mine shared her experience at NIT Trichy and I have written the answer based on her experience. She called her life at NIT Trichy very meaningful and dynamic. Although she spent merely 2 years during her MTech, she had so much to learn and experience here.

Initially, she was a bit taken aback by the campus as it looked like she had come to a jungle. Soon she became familiar with the hostels and other places and adapted herself to life at NIT Trichy. Luckily she got the best roommates that accelerated her college life experience.

The peer groups comprise students from diverse backgrounds and you get to interact with people with versatile professional backgrounds. Usually, English is the medium of conversation here since South Indians cannot speak Hindi.

Powered vehicles are restricted so students can be found cycling across the huge campus. All basic commodities can be found inside the campus.

Boys aren’t allowed to enter the library and Computer center in capris or shorts. On weekdays, the deadline for girls is 9 pm whereas on weekends it is 9: 30. Those who don’t adhere to the rules are disciplined accordingly.

Additional amenities include a CCD inside the campus, along with many canteens and a mess on the campus.

Usually, the whether here is hot although a few hostels have AC in common halls.

Overall, life at NIT Trichy is full of ups and downs and varies from individual to individual.

The campus life at NIT Trichy is great. A few of my friends graduated from NIT Trichy. Here are their experiences in brief.

Hostels:

The hostel rooms are spacious compared to other NITs and IITs. In the first year, you will have to share a room with 2 other students. Students of other years are given double occupancy rooms. Wi-fi speed in hostel rooms is decent.

Hostels like Zircon, and Amber are situated far away from the activity zone and lecture halls, but you will get used to cycling your way eventually.

Student Activities:

From technical, robotics, management, product design, entrepreneurship, to haking, web design, automobile, you will find a wide range of clubs to join. There are also organizations like AIESEC, Toastmasters, TedX, etc.

Fests:

Festember - the cultural fest and Pragyan - the techno-management fest these two are the inter-college fest of NIT Trichy. You will get to gain relevant experience by working with the organizing team.

Academics:

Since it is the top NIT, you will get access to a lot of resources. There’s a computer center with 24*7 access. There is also a SCIENT building where you can complete projects on your own. You will have access to machines and computer systems.

Faculty:

NIT T has a lot of well-qualified and experienced professors who will go out of their way to help you if you approach them.

Labs:

Although the labs are well-equipped with modern instruments, you won’t get to do experiments on your own.

Diverse Student Crowd:

The student crowd is diverse. Since it is located in Tamil Nadu, almost 50% of the students are from Tamil Nadu. Around 30-35% of the students are from Andra Pradesh or Telangana. The remaining are from all over India.

Living on the NIT Trichy campus is an enriching experience. You will get good opportunities to learn and develop as a person.

From my friend experience, you will definitely have a great time and a meaningful journey at NIT Trichy. My friend spent two years here but would like to share her experience none the same.

  • On the day of your admission, you might start feeling a little homesick especially if you have not lived on campus and in hostels before. However, you will definitely like the hostel despite it being your first time.
  • During my friend’s stay, instead of two, three girls were made to stay in a room since there were more admissions. But, luckily, both her roommates were really good people.
  • You will also find people from all the different states in our country. Most of the South Indians cannot speak Hindi which is why your medium of conversation will be in English.
  • As far as the campus is concerned, you can ride bicycles within the premises as cars and other powered vehicles are not allowed.
  • You will also find all daily essentials within the area which is a good thing.
  • When it comes to restrictions, there were no such restrictions for boys except for in the library and computer center where capris and shorts are not allowed.
  • For girls, however, the curfew for hostels is around 9 pm on weekdays and 9.30 pm on weekends. My advice to you would be to never be late for these deadlines because they will take your ID Card and there are a lot of formalities to be completed to get it back.

The computer center is also open 24x7 but only for boys as girls cannot step outpost 9 pm which could be a drawback. There is also a Café Coffee Day and a number of canteens besides the regular mess where you can eat. Weather-wise, it is generally quite hot but you will have ACs in the common halls of the hostel.\
