Is there any bias against IPM students during placements in IIM Indore? Are they considered equal to PGP students?
Yes, there indeed is a certain level of bias that IPM students face during the placement process. But the reason is well justified. Being a newly established course, IPM lacks the certainty of success. The industries are only gradually developing their trust towards this course over the years. So the recruiters are still a bit hesitant in investing in an IPM student.
But if you look at the figures, you can see that the course has been gaining trust and climbing the ladder drastically over the past few years. Also, I don’t think it’s justifiable to draw a comparison between a 7-year-old program that has already been recognized (PGP) to a newly established course (IPM).
People usually compare these 2 programs because they see IPM as a means to join IIM by escaping CAT. This is not the case at all. IPM is much more than that. It needs no comparison to any other program. It is a full-fledged integrated course that is way ahead of other undergrad or integrated courses across the nation both in terms of the kind of education it offers and the placements.
Is the Great Lakes Chennai's PGPM programme good for people from the manufacturing sector?
The primary purpose for the establishment of this institute was to further the career of managers already having 3-4 years of work experience. Great Lakes' one-year program has gained popularity because of its strong yet well-structured curriculum that helps people get back to the same domain in which they were working.
That being said if you have worked in the manufacturing sector, Great Lakes will render a plethora of opportunities to upgrade your career in the same domain. Its excellent location in Chennai, the Detroit of Asia attracts the best recruiters some of the major ones being Ashok Leyland, Daimler India, Isuzu, SPIC, Murugappa, TVS, The Amalgamation group etc.
In case you fail to secure any core manufacturing jobs, you will find plentiful opportunities as a consultant in any of the big IT firms.
Which should one choose: IIM Ranchi PGDMHR or Great Lakes Institute of Management PGPM?
To decide between IIM Ranchi's PGDM HR program and the Great Lakes PGPM program, consider the following questions:
- Do you want to build your career in HR?
- Do you have work experience of more than 3 years?
If your answer to the first question is "Yes" and your answer to the second question is "No," you should consider IIM Ranchi's PGDM HR program. If your answer to the first question is "No" and your answer to the second question is "Yes," you should consider Great Lakes PGPM.
If both answers are "Yes," you should reconsider whether you really want to change careers after 3 years of work experience. If you still want to pursue HR, IIM Ranchi's PGDM HR program would be a good option. If both answers are "No," you should consider Great Lakes PGPM, as it has a better return on investment due to its shorter duration.
Which would be a better choice between SPJain Information Management specialization and MDI Gurgaon PGPM?
A specialization in any field be it Information Management or Finance, will limit your job prospects whereas a general PGDM will keep your options open. By choosing the IM specialization you can expect the following roles
- Consulting (strategy, operations, technology)
- Sales/pre-sales (software)
- Product managers
- IT managers (corporate IT roles)
- Analytics
- Banking
If these are exactly the kind of roles you were looking for, then specialization in IM is not a bad option. But if you want to explore more fields then PGDM is best for you.
It’s important to note that these roles will automatically be offered to you even if you choose the MDI Gurgaon PGDM course in addition to other job profiles in Marketing, Finance, Ops, etc.
So choosing PGDM will keep your options open, whereas choosing SP Jain will limit your options as you have to stay committed to your specialization both in terms of what you learn and what jobs you are looking for. However, if you are choosing SP Jain because of personal preferences like location, batch size, brand name, or course, then it is altogether a different topic.
Which is better, MDI Gurgaon PGPM or IIM Indore? I have 2 years of work experience and 9/9/7 as my profile. I would like to go for marketing. (Keep aside the tag factor)

The best way to analyze the brand value of a B School is to look for the perception the recruiters carry about your B School. An IIM tag is usually considered a tag that will reap benefits throughout your life. But in reality, this tag has got its value from the excellent performance of IIM ABC only and not that of the new IIMs.
Don’t hesitate and choose MDI Gurgaon, as this is the best option for Marketing you can avail yourself.
Is it good to join PGPM FLEX program offered by Great Lakes Chennai for a person who is 2 year experienced in financial institution?
The Great Lakes PGPM program claims to help you in switching jobs or functions by enhancing your knowledge base and managerial skills. But the truth is far from this. I know a friend who is an IT engineer with 8 years of work experience who completed the PGPM flex program to switch from the tech stream to the management stream but failed to do so. The result might be different for you though. So the subjectivity can best be clarified through the following pros and cons
Pros:-
- PGPM Flex has a diverse curriculum comprising a wide range of subjects taught by professionals who are experts in their respective fields.
- You will get a taste of the regular courses because of their similar pedagogy and curriculum.
- Your peer pool will be a mixed bag from all over the country so the learning experience is unique.
Cons:-
- The degree is invaluable in most organizations.
- Does not affect your future prospects to a great extent.
- The degree is not recognized by WES.
Overall, the degree adds little value to your profile though the effect may vary from person to person.
What are the disadvantages of getting a PGPM degree of 2 years from IBS Mumbai?
IBS Mumbai, a top Indian business school, provides a two-year PGPM (Post Graduate Programme in Management). Before enrolling in the program, analyze its pros and cons. Some drawbacks:
- Cost: IBS Mumbai's PGPM program is more expensive than others in India. Tuition, living expenses, and other expenditures may make the program unaffordable for some.
- Competition: Admission to IBS Mumbai's PGPM program is difficult. The Institute receives many applications, and the selection process is tough, so not everyone can get in.
- IBS Mumbai's PGPM program is general management, hence students may not be able to specialize. Consider a program that specializes in your career goal or interest.
- Location: IBS Mumbai is in Mumbai, which might benefit or hurt students. Mumbai's traffic and pollution can make living there expensive.

The average salary is a rather misleading aspect to determine the worth of a college because the highly inflated results can pull the average towards one side. This works in the favor of the college and most times students end up getting misled.

Which one is better between IIM Lucknow PGP sustainability Management and IIM Shillong PGP and why?
IIM Lucknow is one of the older IIMs and therefore has a stronger alumni base. IIMs mostly specialize in Core Management and Investment Banking. So before you consider taking Sustainable Management look up at the figures and campus records.
Sustainable Management is only beneficial if at the end of the program you have formed professional colleagues or have come up with a business idea.
Currently, Sustainable Development lacks the demand and credibility enjoyed by other domains. So it’s a risky choice and should be considered only if you are serious about it or don’t have any other options.
