IGDTUW: 11 Answered Questions

Which one is better (this includes- placements, faculty, students, and course structures) for an MTech (ISM): IIITM Gwalior or IGDTUW?

Dipankar BanerjeeStudied at Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior

IIITM Gwalior is better for an MTech ISM. It has an active coding culture. Being an IT-oriented institute, it offers better technological exposure.  It has a good placement record. According to the highlights of IIITM Gwalior placements 2022, students received an average CTC of INR 16.85 LPA. The highest CTC offered was INR 59.27 LPA.

IIITM G is lenient regarding attendance and academic schedule. So, it’s easier to follow interests outside the course-work.

Which is better, IGDTUW CSE or NIT Calicut CSE?

Tithi AggrawalLives in New Delhi

I have a cousin who is currently working as a senior software engineer at Walmart. He is anex-student of IGDTUW. This alone negates all the claims of people stating IGDTUW is a below-average institute with poor infrastructure and zero placement opportunities. In fact, the first job he landed with campus placements was at Adobe. His juniors got placed in better companies like Google, Facebook, etc which speaks of the improving placement scenario.

Here is a comparative analysis of the placement scenario of these institutes

NIT Calicut BTech CSE

Its true that NIT Calicut may have an upper hand in terms of infrastructure, but in the long run, that does not really matter. A college can give you the wings to fly and it's on you how high you rise. Moreover, being a girl, you will have better opportunities in a girl's college like IGDTUW.

Yes, you will have to make small sacrifices like moving away from your home and adjusting to minimal facilities but in the end, it will be worth it!

Which is better, an ECE in IGDTUW or an ECE in NIT Delhi?

Sabeer Chalana

One of my friends was in a similar dilemma last year when she had to choose between ECE at IGDTUW and NIT Delhi. She eventually chose NIT Delhi, Electrical, and Electronics branch, and has no regrets to date.

Sharing her experience she told me that since NIT Delhi operates from a temporary campus, it takes around 1 hour to reach college from the hostel. The Infrastructure isn’t very good but if you want the NIT tag, then NIT Delhi isn’t a bad choice.

Moreover, IGDTUW is an all-girls college while NIT Delhi is co-ed. So make your choice after looking at all the aspects.

Which should my daughter choose, a CSE from IGDTUW or a ECE from NSIT/DTU/IIIT Delhi?

Sapna Malik updated
Sabeer Chalana

The choice between CSE from IGDTUW and ECE from NSIT/DTU/IIIT depends on the goals of your daughter. If she is planning to pursue higher studies like MS or a Ph.D., then IIIT Delhi is a decent choice as it’s a research-oriented college. But if she is looking for a job, then IIIT Delhi will offer limited opportunities. This is because getting a job in Core ECE companies like Western Digital and Qualcomm is not easy, as these companies prioritize master students. A few talented students do get placed in Software firms.

In IIIT Delhi first year is the same for both CSE and ECE during which the students are taught Introduction to Programming, System Management, Computer Organisation, Data Structure, and Digital Circuits. Your chances of placement also depend on your CGPA which should be preferably above 7. IIIT Delhi offers the flexibility to choose the CSE courses, provided that you complete the minimum credits requirement in the last two years of B.Tech for the degree.

In all, I feel, that NSIT and DTU will offer great job opportunities because of their brand name but IIIT Delhi will teach you new things and also offer research opportunities

So it’s best to go for NSIT or DTU or IIIT Delhi. Choose wisely.

Which is better, Thapar University or IGDTUW?

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

Majority of students choose an MBA to get a good job. SMS, CUSAT satisfies your job requirements quite well. The highest package at SMS, CUSAT goes to around INR 20.14 LPA while the average package touches around 9.34 LPA. How is NIT Delhi as compared to other colleges in Delhi like NSIT, IGDTUW, IIIT-D, and DTU?

Sapna Malik updated
Sayantani Barman

Here is a detailed comparative analysis of NIT Delhi with other Delhi colleges like NSIT, IGDTUW, IIIT Delhi, and DTU on the basis of some common factors

  • Academics: The quality of education offered is more or less the same in all these aforementioned institutes. The professors focus more on research work than on delivering theoretical concepts.
  • Curriculum: The NIT Delhi curriculum has been updated recently and has become extremely challenging and rigorous almost at par with the IITs.
  • Campus Life: All these institutes except NIT Delhi have excellent cultural and tech fests. NIT Delhi needs to work on this aspect the most as its students lack organizational skills.
  • Sports: NITDelhi has all the equipment and resources necessary for a good sports environment. Students of NIT Delhi can be seen actively participating in inter-NIT and sports fest.
  • Clubs: NIT Delhi has many tech and cultural clubs that conduct a variety of activities. However, its club culture is not as active as in other Delhi colleges like DTU and NSIT.
  • Startup culture: NIT Delhi professors encourage its students in this area. In fact, one of the ur seniors was invited to stay in Rashtrapati Bhavan as his project based on meteorological phenomena was selected for its innovative technique.

Overall, NIT Delhi may not be at par with other well-established Dego colleges but it's slowly climbing the ladder and may surpass them in no time.

Should I join IGDTUW Delhi mechanical and automation, or PEC Chandigarh civil branch? Which is better?

Prerona Datta
Manav JainStudied at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh

Both IGDTUW Delhi and PEC Chandigarh are reputed colleges and are equally good but both these courses are very different from each other.

If you are interested in higher studies and want to do M.Tech or Ph.D., then only opt for PEC civil. The pressure for studies would be less. You also have no restrictions in doing extracurricular activities. Here you can focus on other things besides studies, like on your hobbies or learning and developing a new skill or a new language which can be helpful in your career.

Here’s a brief overview of the courses mentioned in the question.

Is NIT Raipur CS better than IGDTUW CS?

Risha Sinha
Harsh VermaCompleted B. Tech Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Raipur in 2020

Everyone knows how to do well in academics, there is nothing different about NIT Raipur. In order to well in academics, all you need to do is plan effectively. It is a good idea to go through the notes and keep also doing the same with the previous notes.

As for your placements, it really comes down to the skills that you possess. So, try to make the most of the four years.

For excelling in studies, an attendance of 80% would be enough. Careful arrangement of notes is also a very good tactic for getting the best results. Also, prepare thoroughly for the end semesters as the results matter a lot.
