Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Electrical Engineering) From IIT Mandi, Mandi

In choosing among two streams, a candidate should go with his/her own interest first. If at some point he/she is in doubt, the stream with maximum opportunity and facilities must have opted. Among the above two departments, data science and engineering can be considered as the better option. The points below state some reasons supporting the cause of choice.

• Even being a newer branch, Data science and engineering at IIT Mandi is a stream worth studying, and most students like its curriculum.
• The curriculum of Data science and engineering is quite similar to that of computer science and engineering. So, if the student loses interest in data science in the future, he/she can opt for anything else in computer science easily at any point in time.
• Even students from electrical engineering can change their matter of interest while studying in IIT Mandi but, from data science, it is easier.

Thus, data science and engineering is the preferred option, looking into the facts of curriculum and opportunities. Even the cut-off rank for Data science and engineering is lesser than electrical engineering in IIT Mandi.

One of my friends is a student at IIIT Allahabad pursuing a dual degree in IT. My older brother is a student at IIT Mandi, where he is studying electrical engineering. Regarding the whole situation, let me be absolutely honest with you.

• If you are interested in electrical engineering, you should first apply to IIT Mandi. 
• Even if you are interested in CSE, you can choose IIT Mandi if you are confident in your ability to score well as branch change rules are less stringent there. 
• The campus and surrounding scenery are both stunning at IIT Mandi. 
• Since there are fewer students, there are more opportunities in every sector. 
• There are better sports facilities, as well as the IIT designation. IIT Mandi is the place to go if you want to be more involved on campus.

IIIT Allahabad outperforms IIT Mandi in terms of faculty, coding culture, and infrastructure. 

• The college will assist you in becoming a more professional IT engineer. 
• In terms of campus life and activities, IIT Mandi is ahead of IIITA, but IIIT has a larger alumni network. 
• Alumni of the IIIT Allahabad are in high-ranking positions in Silicon Valley. 
• Placements are marginally better here than at IIT Mandi.
• In terms of venue, both are very similar, with Allahabad being an inch better.

You must now choose where you will spend the next four years of your life. Examine your long-term priorities and goals, and make decisions accordingly.

There is a branch change provision at IIT Mandi which is very lenient too. So if you are confused with your branch and you wish to change your branch in the future, then you should choose IIT Mandi. 

One of my friends was in a similar situation a few years back and he opted for IIT Mandi for its flexible branch change policies. He was able to change his branch to CSE. To change your branch to CSE, you will need a CGPA of around 8.6. 

IIT Mandi has a 50% branch change allowance whereas at IIT Roper it is 10%. To know more about the branch change rules you can visit the official website.

For obvious reasons, ED in IIT Madras is better than EE from IIT Mandi.

Since, you are a Keralite, you need to travel across the entire length of India whenever you need to travel back and forth from your home. Moreover, the climate will also be a minus factor. In case of Chennai, you can travel overnight and reach your home. The people there will be more familiar to you as compared to those in Mandi.

Engineering Design - 

• It is an amalgamation of all the engineering disciplines in a crude sense which can be easily seen by their curriculum. 
• The curriculum includes doing coding, mechanical labs and civil engineering courses, it even includes Electrical Engineering. 
• BTech in Electrical Design is a 5 year Program as it includes a compulsory six month internship (an entire semester) in the final year and a project in the final year of the course. Whereas, the courses at other branches last for only 8 weeks.

To summarize, IIT Madras offers you everything that IIT Mandi has and a lot more than that.

Mandi is situated in Himachal Pradesh, it has a very pleasing scenery. But keeping in mind the distance, weather conditions and the ease of living for a Keralite, Chennai is a much better option.

The major factor that drives the decision of which course to pursue is the placements.

Chemical Engineering- IIT Roorkee

As per the 2018-19 placements record, more than 250 companies participated in campus placements, some of them were ITC, Reliance, Jindal Steel, TATA, and many more. Chemical Engineering Students at IIT Roorkee recorded an average placement of INR 13.05 lakhs per annum. A total of 8 PPOs were offered to Chemical Engineering students. Roles were offered for Technologist, Researcher, Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Consultant, etc. The placement rate for Chemical Engineering was around 80%.

ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar

ECE is one of the new branches of IIT Bhubaneswar and was introduced in 2016. Due to this, the first batch to pass out would be the batch of 2020. So there are no past records for this course. However, seeing the trend of placements for electrical engineering, the same can be assumed for ECE as well. In the year 2018-2019, 86% of the Electrical Engineering Department was placed. Companies like Amazon, INTEL Technology, ISRO, DELL, Thermax, Tata Steel, and many more visited to recruit students during campus placements. The average placement was recorded at INR Rs. 11.44 lakhs per annum.

EEE at IIT Mandi

As per 2019-20 placements, 62.5% of EEE were placed during phase-1 of campus placements. A total of 75 companies visited the campus and some of the top recruiters were Accenture, Wipro, CISCO, ISRO, CSC India, Siemens to name a few. The average package offered was 13.5 lakhs per annum. Several PPOs were also offered.

Considering the placements data, you should choose Chemical Engineering at IIT Roorkee. However, the final decision of which course and college to select rests up to you.
