TIET BTech/BE eligibility criteria involves 60% aggregate marks in Class 12, and JEE Main/ NEET percentile. Eligibility required for applying is as follows:

For BE/ BTech specializations other than Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering

• The candidate must have passed 10+2 with 60% aggregate marks in three subjects- Physics, Mathematics, and any one out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject*.
• The candidate must have passes Class 12 in 2021, 2022, or appearing in 2023.
• Must have appeared for JEE Main 2023.
• Posses a good moral character.
• Must be a citizen of India.

For BTech in Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering

• The candidate must have passed 10+2 with 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
• Must have appeared for the NEET 2023 exam.
• Posses a good moral character.
• Must be a citizen of India.
• The candidate must be born on or before October 1, 1997 (5 years relaxation in age is given to SC/ST/PH candidates).

Note: For SC/ST category candidates, the institute gives relaxation of 5% in Class 12 scores.

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology BTech/BE Selection Criteria

TIET BTech/BE selection criteria involves admission through JEE Main/NEET, Class 12 merits, and highest scores in Class 12 boards. Below are the details related to Thapar University admission process for BTech:

• Mode 1: Based on JEE Main- 2023 percentile for 50% seats: 50% of the total seats are filled on the basis of percentile based on merit of JEE Main 2023. 
  • For BTech in Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering, 50% of the seats are filled through NEET 2023 percentile. Remaining 50% seats are filled through Class 12 scores.
• Mode 2: Based on 10+2 marks in PCM for 50% seats: 50% of the seats are filled on the basis of marks secured in 10+2 or equivalent exam. The aggregate marks for selection are calculated on three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics, and any one out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, and Technical Vocational subject.
• Top 5 candidates in Class 12 board: Candidates who are in the list of top 5 students in their respective Class 12 board are given direct admission. These candidates must appear in the JEE Main exam to become eligible. However, final merit list is prepared only on the basis of Class 12 percentile. These candidates must present a proof of being in the Top 5 to get admission.

In the final round of counselling, any seat remaining vacant through Mode 1 or Mode 2 are filled through Mode 2 or Mode 1 and Vice versa. For example, if there are seats available under Mode 1 criteria, seats are filled on the basis of Class 12 percentile. Thapar University offers lateral entry to candidates applying for BE programs. Admission to Thapar University BTech (Lateral Entry) is given on the basis of merits.

Thapar University BTech (Lateral Entry) Eligibility

A candidate is eligible for admission into the Second year of BE, if:

• Candidate has diploma, in any relevant discipline with 2 to 3-years of minimum duration after 10th class. The minimum aggregate marks in this degree is 60% (55% for SC/ST).

• Possesses a good moral character
• Is a citizen of India. 

Thapar University BTech (Lateral Entry) Admission

Admission to Thapar University BTech (Lateral Entry) is merit-based. Candidates scoring a 60% aggregate marks in relevant Diploma Degree are given admission to the second year of BE. After allocating all the seats to the candidates with diploma in relevant discipline, if there are any vacant seat, a maximum of 10% of the sanctioned seats is offered to the candidates having diploma in other discipline on the basis of merit of marks secured in Diploma. Admission to Thapar University MTech program is given on the basis of GATE exam scores. The institute allows direct admission to candidates who apply without GATE scores. Thapar University MTech direct admission is given on the basis of Class 12 and BTech scores. The institute gives 30% weightage to Class 12 marks and 70% weightage to BTech marks in this situation. Stage 4: Communication of Decision: The stage involves communication of decision made by the admission committee. Candidates selected after the evaluation process are sent offer letters in this stage.

Stage 5: Final Counselling and Fee Deposit: Candidates selected for final admission are required to accept the offer letter at this stage. The process of accepting the offer involves document and fee submission through e-counselling or in-person counselling.

• M.E./ M.Tech./ M.Phil./ MCA/ M.Sc./ M.Com/ M.Pharma/ M.A./ M.B.A./ C.A. or equivalent with minimum or 60% marks in aggregate or a CGPA of 6.00 on a 10-point scale OR must be GATE/ GPAT/ NET(UGC/ CSIR) qualified.
• Candidates with a B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Pharm degree or equivalent with the excellent academic record (minimum CGPA of 9.00 on 10-point scale or 80% marks in aggregate) may be considered for admission.
• Relaxation is given to candidates who have scored 7.00 on a 10-point scale in CGPA or have 65% aggregate marks for the minimum eligibility conditions may be permitted for candidates with a B.E./B.Tech. degree or equivalent who have a minimum of 3 years of professional and/or research experience in the area in which the admission is sought.

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology PhD Selection Criteria

Selection to Thapar University PhD program is done through entrance test and interview round. The institute exempts GATE/ NET (UGC/CSIR)/ GPAT qualified candidates from entrance test.
