IIT Madras Campus & Facilities
IITM has a residential campus of around 617 acres, ie, 2.5 km2. The campus includes Gajendra Circle, New Academic Complex, Open Air Theatre, Central Lecture Theatre, Wellness Community Centre, Shopping Complex, Hospital, Canteens, and Guest Houses.
Further, the institute has 20 hostels, 5 for female and 15 for male students. UG students are provided accommodation in single / double / triple rooms, meanwhile PG students are provided with sharing/single rooms. The hostels include a computer room, a garden, and a library.

Ques. Can a student change branches at IIT Madras?
Ans. Students can change their engineering stream if not completely satisfied with the current branch. Applications for branch change are accepted at the end of the first semester. According to the JEE rank, candidates can switch to their preferred branch. Only 10% of each branch is permitted to change branches. The only criterion is the CGPA of the first semester.
