Course Curriculum Overview:

The course structure is based on a credit scheme wherein course credits for solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, Theory of machines, and maths are 4 credits, and the 2 subjects 3 credits The mechanical subjects are too tough it's difficult to pass if we keep our efforts means we can pass.

Course Curriculum Overview:

As usual, I didn't choose my course. It was through counseling and I was happy I got into mechanical engineering. The faculty in our college i.e nit Durgapur is very qualified. the ratio of students to teachers is very high example in the first year 200 students were there in a single class. The faculty is good. They teach well but we have to practice a lot. Yes, it is a difficult task to pass as in the engineering college we do not study that well and I would suggest you do group studies during the exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Being a Mechanical engineering student at NIT Durgapur, I can talk about how the actual scenario of the curriculum, the course of mechanical engineering is quite good but of course, we are blessed with too many labs which becomes very hectic at times, also there is a mix of good and average professors, some are very approachable while others are born to give supply.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I wanted to do it. The faculties are good enough and the student number is approx1000 per year. Faculties are phd scholar and their teaching method is also good and they are friendly to students. Exams happen here 2 times per semester:mid sem and end sem, two semesters per year and the questions of the exams are standard or sometimes hard so you have to study hard.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I want to go into the automobile sector that's why I chose mechanical engineering here placements in mechanical engineering are far better than many colleges ..this nit provides 11-12 lakh of the average package for mechanical that's a very good thing. faculty to student ratio is very good because in every branch there will be 2-3 faculties teaching the same subjects. all faculty members are PhD graduates from a good IIT and have experience of 5-10 years of teaching. the teaching method was good. In every semester there will be 2 exams, the first is mid sem and the second ends the sem. mid contains 25 marks and end contains 60 marks and there will be ca of 15 marks ..exam happens in the interval of 2 months

I chose this course because Durgapur is an industrial city so here the opportunity for mechanical engineering is really up to mark. The faculties are great here. Some of them are highly qualified with various publications. The student ratio is 1:3 female: male. Every semester occurred in 6 months. And mid-term is in between them.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have chosen a BTech 4-year course in which I have taken mechanical engineering. the faculty members are well-educated enough. Many of them are from this college only and have done their mtech in the same college. they will clarify all the doubts and separate cabins and departments are there for each course. for the 1st 3 months of each semester, a mid-term examination is conducted and in the 6th month end-term examination is conducted this whole semester.

NIT Durgapur: 2 Answered Questions

Which course is better...mechanical engineering dual degree at IIEST Shibpur or 4 years degree mechanical engineering degree at NIT DURGAPUR?

Nikita Joshi
Shalini MitraB.Tech Mechanical Engineering, IIEST, Shibpur (2020)

When you complete a course of four years normally, you complete your graduation with the fundamentals of your branch which allows you to pursue higher studies if they are in your interests. It also gives you the option, at the same time, to complete your undergraduate degree in another subject if you wish to.

If you want to pursue a dual course, it can probably put a dent in your freedom to pursue your interests and you will be ‘rewarded’ with the master’s degree. Another problem after receiving the master’s degree would be the confusion about looking for a job, pursuing a doctorate in the field of your interest(s).

The dual degree in mechanical will demand more dedication from you but the four-year degrees are easier compared to those. Mechanical engineering is a good option if going for higher studies is in your interests.

Which institute is better for Mechanical Engineering, NIT Durgapur or IIEST Shibpur?

Snehal BanerjeeB.Tech from IIEST, Shibpur (2019)

People usually choose NIT Durgapur just for the tag of the institute. If your aim is to pursue higher education which will help you in landing a good job, then IIEST Shibpur will be an excellent decision. The institution boasts of having a legacy of more than 160 years. In addition to that, the NIRF also holds IIEST Shibpur in high regard. The institute has a fantastic research environment and the placements are getting better year after year. The alumni network of the institute is one of the biggest and you will come across alumni in every field.

IIEST Shibpur is also offering degrees in B.Tech as well as the option to opt for Dual Degree after the third year. The institute is far ahead of NIT Durgapur. Obviously, as an IIEST Shibpur alumnus, my acquaintance is kind of biased towards the institute. IIEST is also a centrally funded institute that has an INI tag and will always be ahead of NIT.

Many of the professors have connections with professors in foreign universities which will help you in bagging MS and research opportunities. In terms of research, faculty, infrastructure, rankings, IIEST often comes among the top ten in India.
