NIT Puducherry Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

Ph.D. in Engineering

  • Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or M.S by Research in Engineering/Technology with at least 60% aggregate marks or 6.5 CGPA in UG or PG degree for OBC/General and 55% aggregate marks or 6.0 CGPA for SC/ST candidates.
  • B.Tech/BE from CFTI with a valid GATE score with at least 90% aggregate marks or 9.5 CGPA in UG degree for OC/OBC candidates and 85% aggregate marks or 9 CGPA for SC/ST candidates.

Ph.D. in Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Physical Education

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Physics/ Mathematics/Chemistry/ Physical Education/ English in the relevant discipline with at least 60% aggregate marks or CGPA 6.5 in UG or in PG for OC/OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or CGPA 6.0 for SC/ST candidates.
  • A valid score in UGC/CSIR/NET/GATE is compulsory for an Institute fellowship.

NIT Puducherry Ph.D. Admission Guidelines

Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their performance in written test followed by an interview conducted by the Departmental Selection Committee. Departmental Selection Committee will send the list of selected candidates to the Director for approval

After approval, the selected students will be offered to enroll in the program by paying the prescribed fees. They can also pay the fees every semester as prescribed by the institute, without which their registration will be canceled.

Application Procedure

  • Pay the application fee of INR 1000 through SBI collect
  • Download the application form 
  • Fill up the application form very carefully
  • Sign the declaration. 
  • Paste a self-attested passport size photograph. 
  • Enclose necessary attachments 
  • Enclose the application fee paid receipt. 
  • Send the application form and enclosures by post 
  • Also, send scanned copies of the same to examcell@nitpy.ac.in

NIT Puducherry Ph.D. Financial Assistance

A limited number of research fellowships are provided only to the students who don’t have any financial assistance from any sources. They must assist the department with academic work at least 8 hours a week. Students having UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET/JEST scores may utilize the Doctoral Fellowships once they are admitted to the Ph.D. program.
