Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences, established in 1993 is the first and only institute in the world providing education to tribal students only who come from marginal family background. The institute provides students with education from Kindergarten to Post Graduation along with vocational training. Due to stable and consistent growth in the performance of the university, KISS has been ranked in Top 10 in India by ‘NGO Advisor’ and Ranked 189 among the Top 500 NGOs in the World.
There are a total of 26642 tribal students enrolled in the institute in order to connect with the rest of the world and gain proper education. A total of 50 courses are being provided to students with major courses like Bachelor of Arts (B.A) and Masters of Arts (M.A). Admission to the courses is offered on the basis of merit scored in the qualifying exam or the entrance test conducted at the institute’s level. Around 26,642 tribal students from parts of the country come here to gain education all for free. Girls are motivated to join the institute and are given preference during the admission. 60% girl students have been pursuing their education in different streams.

Candidates seeking admission in Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences must fulfil the eligibility criteria for the respective courses. For admission in PG courses, candidates have to take an entrance examination conducted separately by the institute. There is no entrance examination for admission in UG level. Admission is taken on a first come-first served basis till the seats in UG level are filled up.

Ans. No, education at the institute is totally free for all. No side amount has to be given from the students.
Ques. Are children from North-eastern States also eligible for admission in KISS ?
Ans. Yes, children from North-eastern States including Sikkim are eligible for admission in three institutes. Only condition is that the child has to be from BPL.
Ques. How is the participation of Girls in the institute ?
Ans. About 60% of the total 26642 students are girls which is a large number in a country like India. Girls from BPL section are encouraged to join the institute and that's why given preference during admission.
Ques. Can a student opt for higher studies in the Institute ?
Ans. Yes, interested students can go for higher studies, which is provided in KIIT where 5% seats are reserved for KISS students.
