Newly revamped and constantly expanding, the program seeks top-performing students who are prepared to conduct rigorous research. Students do not need to have a bachelor's degree in economics, but applicants should have a strong math background.

The program has a strong emphasis on quantitative training. The PhD in particular requires a solid math foundation. For students who lack background in calculus or linear algebra, or those who wish to have a refresher course in those subjects, a “math boot camp” is offered free of charge to all admitted students prior to the start of the fall semester.

After You Graduate

The empirical emphasis of the program trains students for a wide variety of jobs. The most recent graduating class have enjoyed an 100% placement rate in full-time employment. Alumni often pursue careers in industry, particularly those involving data management and policy analysis. Graduates have also been placed in both domestic and international institutions such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Morgan Stanley, Finanzas y Technologia, Goldman Sachs, the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, Temple University and the Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
