The master's program in Reading Specialization develops practical and professional knowledge that is essential for educators concerned with the improvement of literacy at all instructional levels. With this program, students study:
- The nature of the reading process
- The interrelationships between language
- Literature and literacy
- Literacy learning and teaching
- The nature and needs of students who find reading difficult
- Reading as a vehicle for learning and enjoyment
- The role of research in reading.
Reading Specialization Program prepares educators to:
- Teach students in classroom learning contexts, including reading in the content areas (grades K through adult).
- Teach students who have difficulties with reading (grades K through adult).
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students must a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university to get admission to this program.
- Students require a minimum GPA of 3 on a 4.0 scale for the program.
Indian Student Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Students must complete a 4-year undergraduate degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution
- Students need to submit minimum GRE exam scores for a better chance of admission.
- Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.

- Statement of Purpose - This is an essay or any written statement written by the student while applying.
- Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores and Successful applicants typically provide a score in the 50th percentile.
- Transcripts: Official transcripts from all educational institutions students have attended.
