Because it is the best university on the west side of Canada. I did not want to leave home and go away to another place. The admission process took a long time to complete. There were many questions and was accompanied by an online interview. I had two interview questions. The application fee was pretty reasonable. My grade 12 average was at least top 10% of my grade (out of 500 people).
Course Curriculum
It is very practical and can be applied to real-life situations.
Faculty
The teachers are professional researchers and know the course materials well. Faculty to student ratio is roughly 50 students to one teacher. Larger classes had 150 students to one teacher.
Placement
I usually attend networking events to look for job opportunities. These are hosted by clubs of Sauder. Membership fees are required. However, clubs provide food for the networking event. And as a result, it makes them worth going.
Accommodation
I live at home. Most choose to live on campus for the first year to get used to university life. After the first year, students tend to move out and rent in nearby locations like or Kitsilano. Usually, places that are 30 minutes away by transit and require no transfers.
Exams
Not many exams were necessary. The only exam I took was the provincial exam of BC for English 12. I received an 86% on the exam. The program included 700 students per grade year (4 years). The minimum score to get in was 70% in English. However, most students had an average higher than 90%. I believe this was also dependent on the highschool.
Fees
Tuition fees are roughly $10k/year for domestic students and $40k/year. International students also need to pay for rent and food. I was not awarded scholarship from ubc. My tuition is roughly 800$ per course. A minimum of roughly 40 courses to graduate. Each year, the prices increase by about 10%.
Scholarship
No
Examination Structure
There are normally 2-3 exams per course. Either one midterm or two midterm plus a final exam. Finals are worth roughly 50% of the entire course.
