Sanjana Bedi Review at The University Of British Columbia [UBC], Vancouver | Collegedunia

Awesome!

8.3 /10

I chose UBC Vancouver because it is one of the best universities in the world for psychology. It is ranked 13th in the world for the program. Also, Vancouver is one of the most livable cities in the world and is a very beautiful place flooded with opportunities. There's a co-op program to help you gain professional experience before you graduate and work learn programs where you can work and study side by side. I chose BA psychology as I am very passionate about becoming a clinical psychologist in the future and am planning to pursue MA and Ph.D. later.

Course Curriculum :

The curriculum is always up to date here. Also, we have a lot of work and co-op opportunities in our undergrad itself. For psychology, we can also apply for research assistant positions to give us research experience as an undergrad.

Exams :

For admission to UBC, you should have a good personal profile as you'll fill in your volunteer works and internships in a form they provide. Also, your marks in high school should be good to be accepted.

Placement :

UBC is a highly recognized university so the job prospects are really good.

Internship :

Not yet

Events :

UBC Vancouver campus is THE prettiest campus I've ever seen. All the weather is so defined, in summers the wrecked beach is amazing, in winters the snow makes it feel like a fairy tale, in spring we have these pretty cherry blossoms all over the campus and the fall is great as well. There are tons of resources to support you in your transition to university life here. For every hobby we have a club, be it dancing, wall climbing, or even pottery. It's a research-based university so we have a lot of research opportunities as well. There are 3 huge libraries, with a lot of study spaces and all the books you can possibly think of. The whole campus has a high-speed wifi connection.

Fees :

around 176k CAD for 4 years.

Scholarship :

I received a 100% tuition scholarship from CUHK based on my marks in 12th grade but I rejected the offer because to study in CUHK, learning Chinese for 4 years was mandatory and I wasn't willing to do that. I also got a 50% tuition scholarship from the University of Melbourne, for which I wrote an SoP and around 4 LoRs, along with my marks. I rejected that too because I believe Canada has more opportunities in terms of Psychology, and I really wanted to live in Van.

Faculty :

Arts is the biggest faculty in UBC with a vast variety of majors ranging from environmental studies to pol sci. There are tons of opportunities.

Hostel :

I lived on campus in the first year and it was the best experience of my life. I had a private room but there are options for shared as well. For first-year residences, there's a mandatory meal plan as there's no kitchen in the housing so the expense is about 10k CAD for a year, housing and food included. For upper year residences on campus, there is a kitchen facility available so the meal plan isn't mandatory. Upper year housing costs about 950 CAD per month. I live off-campus now and am paying 800/ month because I have a single room 10 mins away from campus. If you look for housing farther away it's even cheaper.
