UIIT Shimla offers B.Tech in five branches of Engineering viz. Information Technology, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering.

The admission to B.Tech is based on the score obtained in University Institute of Information Technology Himachal Pradesh University Common Entrance Test (UIIT HPU CET).
The basic eligibility for admission to B.Tech program is 10+2 from a recognised board.
For B.Tech Lateral Admission, eligibility criteria is a diploma of 3 years in IT or CSE or ECE (after 10+2 or matriculation)or equivalent with minimum of 60% marks in aggregate from institute preferably located in Himachal Pradesh. Or
Admission to both the programs will be granted on the basis of UIIT HPU Counselling only.

60 Seats are for General Category STudents

UIIT Shimla B.Tech Eligibility

10+2 examination or equivalent with Physics, Mathematics and any one of the other elective subjects of a Board/University established by law in India with 50% marks or equivalent grade.
For SC/ST candidate's eligibility will be 45% marks or equivalent grades.

In case of candidates studying in University/Board/College or School in a foreign country, the eligibility required will be the same as recognized equivalent to 10+2 by the University or the Association of Indian Universities with 50% marks in three subjects as detailed in above point. For SC/ST candidates, eligibility will be 45% marks or equivalent grades.

The candidate should not be more than twenty-two years (22) in age as on 1st July of the year of admission.

UIIT Shimla B.Tech Selection Criteria

Admission is through counselling based on the rank obtained in University Institute of Information Technology Himachal Pradesh University Common Entrance Test (UIIT HPU CET), for all branches.

UIIT HPU CET will be conducted through offline mode i.e. Pen & Paper-based Test (PPT). The exam contains 2 papers (Paper I & Paper II)

The question paper will contain 200 Multiple Choice Question's (MCQ's) for a duration of 2 Hours i.e. 120 Minutes (Each Paper).

Paper I (Physics - 50 & Mathematics - 50)
Paper-II (Aptitude - 40, GK - 40, and English - 20)

Dates of counseling and the list of candidates eligible to attend counseling will be displayed on UIIT website www.hpuiitshimla.org or www.uiit.ac.in. Candidates who have cleared the UIIT HPU CET 2021 will be called for the counselling process which will be held on July 3, 2021.

Intake

For each branch, there are 6 seats + any seat(s) remaining vacant at IInd year level.
These seats are 10% of the sanctioned intake of the first year in B.Tech. (IT & CSE) over and above.
Out of the allowed intake of 10% of the sanctioned seat under the lateral entry scheme, 1 seat i.e. 20% of this intake be admitted under the category of sponsored candidate.

UIIT Shimla B.Tech (Lateral) Eligibility

Should have acquired a diploma of 3 years in IT or CSE or ECE (after 10+2 or matriculation)or equivalent with minimum of 60% marks in aggregate from institute preferably located in Himachal Pradesh. Or
Bachelor Degree in Science (B.Sc.), with Mathematics and Physics as subjects and a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate from University/Institutions located in preferably Himachal Pradesh. Or
The candidate should have a minimum of 3 years experience of working in Government sector /Public Sector Units /Industry related to Information Technology/ Computer Science Engineering.

UIIT Shimla How To Apply?

The interested and eligible candidates can apply online for B.Tech, B.Tech (Lateral) via following steps:

Applicants need to visit the official website of UIIT Shimla and register themselves to fill the application form.
Applicants will receive an application number from the university once the registration is done.
Applicants need to login to the website using the application number and fill the form.
Applicants need to fill all necessary details in the application form carefully and upload scanned images of the documents like photograph and signature.
After filling the form completely, applicants need to take a printout of the application form for further usage.
The application form needs to be submitted and the application fee (INR 1000/-) needs to be paid on the official website itself.
Applicants can pay the application fee by debit card, credit card or by net banking facility also.

UIIT Shimla Seats Reservation

15% and 7.5% of the seats shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes candidates, respectively. Further 3% of total seats are reserved for Physically Challenged (PC). Physically Challenged candidates will have to produce a certificate of minimum disability of 40% (issued by competent authority) at the time of counseling, to avail the reservation in PC category.

Roasters applicable for this will be followed for deciding seats for SC, ST and PC categories separately. The seats reserved for SC, ST and PC categories i.e. (15% + 7.5% + 3% = 25.5%) shall be filled as under:

40% of the seats for admission shall be open for all the candidates irrespective of the institution from where they have passed their qualifying examination.
60% of the seats shall be filled out of the candidates who have passed their qualifying examination (10+2) from schools located within Himachal Pradesh.

The remaining 74.5% seats (100% - 25.5%) shall be filled as under:

40% of the seats shall be open for all the candidates irrespective of the institution from where they have passed their qualifying examination.
60% of the seats shall be filled out of the candidates who have passed their qualifying examination (10+2) from schools located within Himachal Pradesh.

UIIT Shimla Scholarships

The students will be granted four merit scholarships, one for each year of B.Tech course in UIIT. The amount of the scholarship will be INR 500 per month. The basis of awarding merit scholarship is as given below:

For 1st year: On the basis of the result of the 10+2 examination passed by the candidate admitted in the first year. The duration of the scholarship will be one full academic session i.e. 1st July to 30th June.
For 2nd year: B.Tech Part I result (semester I and II taken together). It will be for the duration of one full academic session i.e. 1st July to 30th June.
For 3rd year: B.Tech Part I & II result (semester I, II, III and IV taken together). It will be for a duration of one full academic session i.e. 1st July to 30th June.
For 4 th year: B.Tech Part I, II & III (semester I, II, III, IV, V & VI taken together). It will be for the duration of one full academic session i.e. 1st July to 30th June.

FAQs

Ques. How are the internship and placement opportunities at UIIT Shimla?

Ans. Placements are good at UIIT. Majority of the students get placed every year. Most of the unplaced students are the ones who opted out of placements because of their own reasons. Companies like Capgemini, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, etc., visit the college regularly and recruit a good number of students for software engineering roles. There is a proper placement cell, and a placement committee is also constituted every year.

Ques. How is the college infrastructure and hostel facilities at UIIT Shimla?

Ans. There is a free Wi-Fi facility with very fast connecting speed. All the labs are well-equipped, and classrooms are also well-furnished with smart classes. The library is also well-maintained and contains all the necessary materials related to other courses also. Medical facilities are good, and there is a regular dispensary on the university campus.

The food served in the mess is also good, and everyone appreciates it. Even the rates are not high. All the outdoor and indoor sports are available in the college. However, there is no hostel facility available at UIIT. Students have to take care of their lodging by themselves.

Ques. How is the faculty UIIT Shimla?

Ans. Teachers in our college are well-qualified and knowledgeable. They are very helpful and are ready to help students at any time. They provide their contacts to students so that they can call them for help at any time. The course curriculum of the CSE department is relevant as there are many jobs in the IT sector for engineers in this field. The faculty to student ratio is 1:22. The college can help you in getting industry exposure if you are willing to and ask for it.
