College of Engineering, Pune has an excellent postgraduate course of M.Tech. The institute offers this master’s course in 8 fields of engineering. These fields are Civil, Computer & IT, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunications, Instrumentation and Control, Metallurgy and Material Science, Mechanical and, Manufacturing Engineering and Industrial Planning. The course is spread across the span of 2 years with 2 semesters in each year.
- The students have to choose an M.Tech course in the specialised topics in the 8 fields mentioned above. Each of the above-mentioned fields has 2 – 4 specializations that the students will get a degree in.
- The minimum requirement for an M.Tech course is to have a relevant bachelor’s degree along with the GATE score.
- The first year is mainly theoretical and the second year is mainly focused on the dissertation.
COEP M.Tech Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to gain admission in COEP, the applicants must have:
- A BE/ B.Tech Degree in the relevant subject with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from any university/ college approved by the AICTE. Applicants from SC/ ST/ OBC and other underserved communities can be relaxed by 5% on the aggregate marks.
- A positive GATE score is required.
All the Non-GATE candidates will have to undergo an entrance test conducted by the department in which he/ she is applying. Passing in this test will be mandatory for admission.
COEP M.Tech Admission Guidelines
Admissions for the master’s program in Engineering is done via the state Counselling body. In this case, it is done by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) of Maharashtra. Applicants will have to do the following:
- Applicants need to register themselves at the official site of DTE.
- After the registration, a unique ID and password will be sent and the applicants are required to log in using that.
- An application fee needs to be paid after this along with verification of the documents.
- After the GATE results are out, the applicants need to log in again with the ID and password.
- The applicants then will have to fill the choices in order of preference.
- A centralised admission process will take place using the computer system and on that basis one after the other, over a while, three merit lists will be announced.
- The applicants will be allotted their institutions based on the options they chose, availability of seats and the marks scored.

Grades and Points-
- The performance of the students in their coursework will be evaluated in terms of letter grades: AA, AB, BB, BC, CC, CD, DD & F. These grades are equivalent to the 10 point scale representing AA = 10, AB = 9, BB = 8, BC = 7, CC = 6, CD = 5, DD = 4, FF = 0.
Academic performance requirements:
- The minimum CGPA required to continue in the M.Tech. program is 5.0 and securing a CGPA between 4.5 and 5.0 may be allowed to continue in the following semester on the recommendation of the DPPC (Departmental Postgraduate Program Committee) and with approval of the Senate.
- Students who secure a CGPA below 5.0 in two consecutive semesters will not be allowed to continue in the postgraduate program and they must obtain a minimum CGPA of 5.0 to graduate.
Thesis/ Project:
Project duration shall be 1 year or 2 semesters and project evaluation shall be done in two phases in both the semesters. The first phase of evaluation shall be in the middle of the semester and the second phase of the examination shall be after the end-semester theory examination of the semester.

COEP M.Tech Placement
The college has seen more than 260 recruiters that have given placements to the students over the years. Some big recruiters are Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, LG, Whirlpool, Wipro, TATA group, Hyundai, Siemens, Samsung, and Reliance.
