Bachelor of Engineering in Food Technology is a graduation level course which is of 4 years. The 4 years are divided into 8 semesters consisting of all the theoretical aspects of food, its components and technologies which are used to preserve it into a usable form.
The course primarily focuses on the application of food science to its selection, preservation, processing, packaging, distribution, and to ensure a safe, nutritious and wholesome consumption of food.
Subjects like Dairy Engineering, Engineering Economics, Fruit Processing and Technology are included in the 4 years of graduation of food technology etc.
Eligibility of the course is that the candidates should have a minimum aggregate score of 50%-60% in 12th from a recognized Board with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the main subjects.
After that, they need to qualify a relevant National or State level entrance papers like JEE, WBJEE to get admission to this course.

Bachelor of Engineering Food Technology: How to Prepare for the Entrance Exams?
- JEE: Joint Entrance Exam is conducted in a Computer Based Mode for B.Tech course. There are 90 questions (30 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics each) for a duration of 3 years. Questions are of both the types: Objectives and Non-Objective. 4 marks is given for correct response and 1 mark is deducted for incorrect response for objective questions.
- MET: Manipal Entrance test is conducted for providing admission to the B.Tech students. The application fee is of INR 600 and for the entrance test is INR 1400. The entrance test contains 200 questions from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English and General Aptitude for 2 hours and 30 minutes.
- BITSAT: Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test is conducted through an MCQ based test. The test consists of 150 questions from Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency, Logical Reasoning and Biology/ Mathematics for a duration of 3 hours.
- UPESEAT: University of Petroleum & Energy Studies Engineering Aptitude Test is an Computer Based test conducted for B.Tech courses. The application fee is INR 1350 through online mode. The test contains 200 questions from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language Comprehension and General Awareness for 3 hours. There is no negative marking and 1 mark is provided for correct response.
- VITEEE: Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination is a national level exam conducted by VIT University. The test contains 125 MCQ questions from Chemistry Physics, Mathematics, Aptitude and English for a duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes.
- TNEA: Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission is conducted for providing admission to engineering and technology courses in the state of Tamil Nadu. There is no entrance test conducted but the admission is based on a Merit List generated based on 12th scores. Tests are followed with counseling processes for allocation of colleges.
