Ques. Should I take up metallurgy and materials engineering at NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Shankar Pandey on 15 Mar 23

Ans.  If you are considering pursuing an MBA, it is advisable to not opt for engineering as it may not be relevant to achieving your goals. Instead, studying economics could prove to be beneficial. If you are looking for a specific course at NIT Trichy, it is recommended taking up Production Engineering. This is considered to be the best course for someone with managerial ambitions. Now, you may be skeptical about someone suggesting a particular stream of engineering for an MBA. However, here are some of the suggestions: The curriculum at NIT Trichy covers Operations Management in great depth. By the time you graduate, your knowledge in operations would be on par with that of a first-year management student. You also learn the basics of economics with Industrial Economics. Depending on your choice of electives, you can also gain knowledge in finance. On a lighter note, the course is not very demanding, so you will have plenty of time to prepare for entrance exams or pursue other interests.Read more

Ques. How is metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur?

● Top Answer By Sumit Jha on 23 Apr 21

Ans. Every year this dilemma strikes most of the students whether to opt for a good NIT but not the branch of choice or branch of choice at any NIT. What you should know is apart from the top five NITs, all the other NITs are equivalent. Therefore, go for the branch of your choice. Now, answering that question that has been asked: Academics : The faculty of the metallurgy department at NIT Jamshedpur is good. They provide a good amount of and appropriate content for the courses. There is not much pressure on large assignments. You can take out time for other interests that you have apart from engineering. Placement : NIT Jamshedpur provides ample opportunities. Companies like Tata Steel and Vedanta Steel are the leading recruiting companies from the metallurgy department. You will also get a lot of opportunities in the non-core sector. Groffers, ZS Associates, Future First also recruit. Looking at the placements, the Metallurgy department at NIT Jamshedpur has been better when compared to other NITs. You can go for metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur but, I will also suggest you give more preference to the branch of your choice.Read more

● Top Answer By Karuna Verma on 29 Apr 21

Ans. NIT Jamshedpur is a tier- 3 Indian Engineering College and it fairs well compared to some other NITs like Raipur, Durgapur, Jaipur in terms of placements of Metallurgical branch students.  More than 100 companies pay a visit to NIT Jamshedpur each year to continue the recruitment. This number keeps on increasing every year. Non-core companies are known to offer 6-8 LPA whereas core companies offer 7-8 LPA.  A number of companies such as TATA Steel, TATA Tinplate, Vedanta group, JSW, JSL, etc regularly take a part in the NIT Jamshedpur’s recruitment.  TATA is known to recruit a maximum of its employees from NIT Jamshedpur. For the 2021 batch, the department witnessed 75% placements offers. The average package offered was 12 LPA. Jamshedpur in itself is fortunate to have a number of steel companies and therefore the metallurgy students here have that to their advantage. The exposure, the competitive environment ensure that students obtain a number of opportunities for training and internships. Moreover, this branch has a lot of scopes not just in our country but abroad too. Also, metallurgy is the oldest branch in NIT Jamshedpur.Read more

Ques. What should I choose between IIT, Kanpur (materials science and engineering) and IIT, Kharagpur (metallurgy and materials science) for M.Tech and why?

● Top Answer By Epil Gagrai on 24 Apr 23

Ans. Both IIT Kanpur Material Science and Engineering and IIT KGP Metallurgy are excellent programs. To choose one of these, you first determine where your interests lie. done  If you are inclined towards the field of materials science, then choosing IIT Kanpur will be beneficial for you. In fact, it has many faculties that are globally known for their achievements and contributions in the field of electronic materials, biomaterials, optical materials, ceramics, metallic glasses, and corrosion. On the other hand, IIT KGP Metallurgy is a viable option for those interested in areas like physical metallurgy, powder metallurgy, characterization techniques, and material testing. The location of the Institute is excellent for metallurgy eight Tata Steel and National Metallurgical Laboratory are both in close proximity to the institute. This is good news for research enthusiasts. Both the institutes and programs are good and thus the final decision should be based on your area of interest considering the fact that IIT Kanpur has a much more rigid culture in terms of academics.Read more

Ques. Which is better IIEST Shibpur mining or NIT Jamshedpur metallurgy?

● Top Answer By Manisha Batra on 16 Apr 21

Ans. NIT Jamshedpur has an established brand name in the country. Students are tagged with “NITians”. This tag is beneficial for future training, internships, on or off-campus placements, and even in pursuing a management degree afterward. Professors & Faculty of NIT Jamshedpur: The professors impart decent knowledge to the students about their expertise core subjects. So, scoring marks is not a problem here. Some of the professors are adopting methods to revise the significant topics again and again. It decreases the workload of students. They can easily focus the first two years on pointing out their areas of interest and later two years in achieving their targets for their desired specialization. Placement Statistics of NIT Jamshedpur: As per the past few years of placements, there are core companies that visit the campus. They are TATA Steel, Vedanta, Hindalco, TATA Power, JSW, Usha Martin, etc.  In the metallurgy department, TATA Steel took only one candidate.  If students lack interest in this department then they can opt for off-campus placements too or else prepare for further studies. Winning Institute: As per the above perks, NIT Jamshedpur can be concluded better between both the listed institutes.Read more

Ques. Which is better, ceramic engineering in IIT BHU or chemical engineering in Jadavpur University?

● Top Answer By Aditya Saha on 14 Feb 22

Ans. If you are willing to join Management/Analytics/Consulting or IT sector then choose Ceramic Engineering in IIT BHU. Compared to JU, IITs offer much better non-core placements.  If you want to join core companies or PSUs then you should choose JU over IIT BHU. Many core recruiters offer job opportunities to JU Chemical Engineering students. Some of the major core recruiters that visit the campus placement regularly are PepsiCo, Cocacola, ITC, Budwiser, RIL, etc. Well-renowned non-core companies like L&T Infotech, TCS Digital, Infosys, etc visit the JU campus placement as well. One other advantage of choosing Chemical Engineering at JU over Ceramic Engineering at IIT BHU is the public sector. SMPCIL and Vizag Steel are the only two PSUs in Ceramic Engineering. Read more

Ques. Which is better CSE in thapar or ceramic in IIT BHU ?

● Top Answer By Srijeeta Roy on 14 Aug 20

Ans. Ceramic Engineering and CSE are two completely different fields of study. CSE offers better placement and packages as compared to Ceramic and though both these institutes are well-reputed the IIT tag offers certain advantages. So it’s quite difficult to choose an institute over the other.  In terms of internships, since Thapar is a private college, they have their own standards regarding schedules. In the internship session of 2019, almost 1200 students got placed. The internship session of IIT BHU includes many big names such as Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, etc. In terms of placements, IIT BHU has performed very well. In 2019, the highest package offered was 1.03 Crore per year in domestic and four students received international offers of 1.53 Crore. Whereas, Thapar received the highest package of 39 LPA, which is quite low but the average packages of both colleges are almost similar. IIT BHU placement statistics show that 171 students chose core companies. Thapar has better hostel and mess facilities whereas IIT BHU’s campus is spread over 400 acres, which is 150 acres more than Thapar’s. In terms of connectivity, IIT BHU has better connectivity and therefore can be assumed to have more exposure. Both colleges are good and have their own advantages. So pick the branch of your choice.Read more
