- The consecutive, scientifically interdisciplinary Master’s degree in Biology is aimed at graduates of the Bachelor’s degree in Biology and graduated from similar Bachelor’s programs.
- In terms of content, this course is divided into the three areas of "Cell System", "Organism System" and "Ecosystem".
- Specialization is possible in all three areas.
- The four-semester study period is divided into a theoretical and a practical phase, in which research stays outside the university and abroad can be easily integrated.

Tuition Fees
There are no tuition fees at the University of Duisburg-Essen. All students are, however, subject to a student body and social contribution fee per semester.
The social and student body contribution for the winter semester 2021 amounts to a total of $387.43.
The amount is made up as follows:
- Mobility contribution (ticket): $253.41, of which $183.94 for the VRR semester ticket and $69.47for the NRW ticket
- Social contribution for the Studierendenwerk: $114.98
- Student body fee: $19.04.
The social and student body contribution is not to be paid before enrollment! Students will be informed about the payment modalities upon registration.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
There is no admission to the Master’s degree in Biology. The prerequisite for enrollment for the winter semester is the examination of two criteria:
- The applicant must have a bachelor's degree in biology or a similar subject and
- the final grade for this subject is 3.0 or better.
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following requirements:
- Educational residents (people who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification in Germany or at a German school abroad) do not require any special proof of German language skills.
- Citizens of a country outside the EU with a foreign university entrance qualification must pass the "German language test for university entrance" (DSH 2 level) or the TestDaF (TDN 4) before starting their studies.
International students hailing from non-English speaking countries can prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
