Master of Education [M.Ed] (Teaching Post at High Schools and Comprehensive Schools)
Field of Study:
The teaching content of the subjects is divided into modules. The module manual contains detailed information on the technical content, qualification goals, and associated courses. In the master's program with the teacher training option for high schools and comprehensive schools, you acquire a total of 120 credits (European Credit Transfer System), with an average of 30 credits per semester.

Tuition Fees
There are no tuition fees at the University of Duisburg-Essen. All students are, however, subject to a student body and social contribution fee per semester.
The social and student body contribution for the winter semester 2021 amounts to a total of $387.43. However, the social and student body contribution for the summer and winter semesters of 2021 amounts to a total of $774.86 per year.
The amount is made up as follows:
- Mobility contribution (ticket): $253.41, of which $183.94 for the VRR semester ticket and $69.47for the NRW ticket
- Social contribution for the Studierendenwerk: $114.98
- Student body fee: $19.04.
The social and student body contribution is not to be paid before enrollment! Students will be informed about the payment modalities upon registration.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- a bachelor’s degree with the teaching options of grammar schools / comprehensive schools or vocational college with 2 subjects at the University of Duisburg-Essen or, subject to the conditions set out in sentence 4, a bachelor’s degree at the University of Duisburg consisting of two subjects approved for combination in accordance with Section 4 (2) LZV -Eat, or
- a relevant course of at least three years in two subjects admitted for combination in accordance with Section 4 (2) LZV and educational and didactic content at another university within the scope of the Higher Education Framework Act with a Bachelor's degree or a comparable degree, provided that the examination board has determined the equivalence of this degree, or
- a relevant course of at least three years in two subjects admitted for combination in accordance with Section 4 (2) LZV and educational and didactic content at a university outside the scope of the Higher Education Framework Act with a Bachelor's degree or a comparable degree, provided that the examination board confirms the equivalence of the degree and the degree as well as has determined a level of the degree that corresponds to that of a degree from a university within the scope of the Higher Education Framework Act.
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following requirements:
- Citizens of a country outside the EU with a foreign university entrance qualification must pass the "German language test for university entrance" (DSH 2 level) or the TestDaF (TDN 4) before starting their studies.
- Educational residents (people who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification in Germany or at a German school abroad) do not require any special proof of German language skills.
- Knowledge of two foreign languages must be proven up to the preparatory service . (usually through university qualification)
- No admission requirement for the course, proof is only required when registering for the preparatory service; is usually fulfilled by the university entrance qualification.
- Those who can only prove one foreign language with the subject-related higher education entrance qualification of the vocational college must acquire and prove a second foreign language during their studies.
- Anyone who did not learn German as their first language, but acquired their university entrance qualification in German, only has to prove knowledge of one other language.
- The language requirements in the subjects English, Turkish, French and Spanish must be proven at the time of enrollment or during the course of the bachelor's degree
International students hailing from non-English speaking countries can prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
