What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Continuous improvement for learning and technical skill”

Passion for the subject, and improvising its industrial and research needs to teach students helps me connect with my students. As a professor, I do not only teach syllabus, I inculcate practical oriented pedagogy as well. Staying connected with the education sector helps improvise strong logical and analytical skills, appreciation of active thinking and ability to give great analogies.

What is your philosophy of leadership as the Vice Principal?

“A vision that communicates clearly to provide direction”

As a leader, I believe in bringing a community together to share leadership in many different approaches. In a college community, this starts at the top in working with others to develop their leadership in every position and level of college. By focusing on an individual’s strengths, you show that you value their expertise first, before you look to help them develop in other areas. This strength-based focus helps to build a relationship with each individual, pushing them to be better every day. When the leader of an organization has this belief and proves it through actions, it trickles down to students in the classroom. The more experience I have in leadership, the more I see that effective professors are effective leaders, and have this same strength-based approach with their students. If we have a community that focuses on building leadership in all areas, we are more likely to be successful within our vision.

How do you think diversity is important in an educational institution?

“Imbibing a wider perspective and experience to student learning”

The benefits of diversity in education, especially higher education, stretch far and wide affecting students’ academic and social experiences, as well as having a direct impact on their future. The positive effects of diversity enable students to work with people from other races, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds, and challenge the views they are accustomed to. This leads to greater awareness, understanding, and acceptance of differing beliefs and customs.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education?

“Improvement in quality and development”

Education is crucial to managing the challenges ahead. With more automated, digitized and fluid job markets, today’s higher education systems are quickly becoming incompatible with the future we are looking to. While most debates around the future of education focus on the skills needed for the future and the imperative of reskilling, it is equally important to discuss the inevitable structural transformations of higher education. Our biggest challenge is placing the students in tier I companies and bringing in the best research environment for them.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the aspiring students?

“Be specific yet dynamic in your choices”

Students should select their specific field during the college itself; they must work with value-added courses for the particular area. Try and explore new ideas without bringing your old ideas along for the ride. Never reject ideas just because you will not agree with them. Examine and study thoughts before setting them aside, and stand out to be heard. Remember your learning won’t all come from your books and professors. You will constantly need to remind yourself about the importance of having a good balance in your life.
