Prof. Ashish Moon is Head of the Civil Department at Smt. Radhikatai Pandav College of Engineering, Nagpur. He has obtained his B.Tech in Civil Engineering, MBA, and M.Tech in Structural Engineering. He has experience of 6 years in lectureship, teaching Estimating &^Costing, Basic Civil Engineering, 2 years experience of lectureship, teaching Marketing Management and Human Resource Management at CIBMRD Nagpur as a faculty. He also has 2 years experience of lectureship, teaching the Marketing Management and Management information system, Organizational Behavior at Global Academy of Management Nagpur. He is an active member of the National Human Resources Development and Institute of Civil Engineering.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Constant Process of learning kept me connected with the education sector”

Teaching and learning process, every day some innovations are taking place, new technologies are developed so there is a lot to learn and to teach the budding engineers. So it is the constant process of learning and teaching that goes on in the education sector and this is what has kept me connected with the same for all these years and I use these ideas in my daily practice. 

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To develop well-qualified engineers and provide students with various seminars and industrial visits”

My role is to develop the young kids into well-qualified engineers so that they might be able to face all the challenges in their respective fields. And to provide whatever knowledge they needed to them it through the workshops/Seminars /Industry visits etc. we at SRPCE try to provide all the necessary support to the students for their academic as well as overall development

How do you tend to establish healthy relationships with students and fellow faculty?

“Providing teachers and students with interactive doubt clearing sessions”

Apart from classroom teaching we take different activities on the college campus such as sports, cultural, technical events such as paper presentation seminars, conferences as well as we provide mentors to the students and students are welcome in the department for any queries and staff is always available for them on calls also for their queries and difficulties.

As per the staff's concern, we share a healthy atmosphere in the staff room and everyone is free to share their views and experience new suggestions are always welcome. We give full support to staff for their individual development.

How do you make the Course Curriculum industry-oriented?

“To bridge the gap between the practical and theoretical skills of students”

As we are all aware of new technologies apart from classroom teaching we tend to give our students innovation and recent case studies industry-based learning we use to share those on youtube and update our students with the ongoing recent software’s which will help them to acquire new skills in the respective fields.

Do you have any extracurricular Programs to enhance the skills of the students?

“Provide students with extracurricular Programs to expose them to the real world ”

NSS, Sports, technical events, cultural events, paper presentations, conferences, technical field visits. As it is mandatory by the Nagpur University we take students to the industry visits every semester and give them the practical knowledge of the subject going on in that semester so that he/they can easily get the concepts and can be able to apply the same when they work for any organization.

What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education in your department?

“Lack of English Knowledge is the biggest challenge faced by students coming from small villages”

As the students in our college came from small villages and nearby areas, lack of English knowledge or some communication barrier, in the beginning, I feel this is the only challenge. Unlike other institutes, our management has been very kind over the years and have provided us with whatever upgrades that we have asked for to help the students which have helped us to keep our focus primarily on the growth of students

How do you promote research and innovation in your department?

“Encourage students to take up research words and provide them with necessary help”

We conduct N & IC and all our 3rd and 4th-year students must participate in other college events also to improve their knowledge. We always encourage students to take up research and provide them with the necessary help for solving their queries, we also guide the students on how to publish a research paper in well-known journals which would help the future as well.

When you first came to SRPCE what was your vision for the institute?

“Our vision was to make the best civil department at SRPCE”

To make the civil department at SRPCE one of the best departments among all the other departments not only in our institute but within Nagpur university. We conduct different activities and a healthy atmosphere for it. We have organized various programs over the years for this purpose. We have given our best and will continue to keep the heads of my department high in the university

How does the department enhance the skills of faculty?

“Providing Faculties with FDP courses to enhance their knowledge and prepare them according to industry standards”

Our faculties participate in the FDP of different colleges to enhance their knowledge as well as in research work in innovative techniques FEP & industry-based approach and activities.

What are the approaches you bring in apart from the curriculum to train the students?

“Main approach is to provide students with various seminars”

Seminars on different topics, field visits, and recent ongoing structure which is built in our Nagpur. As Nagpur is a growing city every day there are new opportunities here which helps us to give practical knowledge to the students and get them to understand the subject in a natural way.

“Students should believe in themselves and take their studies seriously”
