Dr. J. Jolly Vini Sheeba has been working as the Head of CA Department at Dr. R. V. Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She has done B. Ed. from Bharathidasan University, M.Com from Annamalai University Chidambaram, M.Phil. PGDCA from Christ University of Tanjore and PhD from Bharathiar University as part of her academics. She has 11 years of teaching experience including 3 years of schooling experience. She has also published 3 research papers including 2 online publications.

What factors have kept you connected with the education sector?

"My passion of educating students and learning new technologies has helped me to stay connected"

I always teach with ethics, justice and honesty in mind. And although I finished my education 21 years ago, now I educate students and youths of our society because my son himself is working on the latest technologies. Beside this, I constantly strive to be an innovative leader for the kids and technologies of this generation. Hence I firmly believe that all these factors together have kept me associated with the education sector. 

What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next 10 years?

"We should focus on enhancing our college infrastructure and establishing modern labs for R&D"

Our college's main priority for the upcoming years is to establish modernized practical labs and I personally intend to establish a practical development lab for students who want to become Chartered Accountants. Also, we aspire to make our college no. 1 college of Coimbatore and make it a first choice of students.

How do you bring in a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects?

"By assigning projects to students on a regular basis"

For the purpose of introducing a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects, we regularly assign various kinds of mini-major projects to our PG students so that they can utilize their classroom learning and also develop new skills. And we are soon planning to bring the same kind of approach for our Undergraduate students. In addition to this, we do a lot of experiments, practicals and research to give in-depth knowledge of a topic to students.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it more befitting for the students?

"We stay connected with the outside world through our students and their achievements"

We do have certain enrichment activities for the benefit of the students affiliated with Bharathiar University and we build the curriculum for our Science and Arts students based on the latest industrial developments and requirements. And on the basis of the students' talents, we always strategize our teaching techniques while planning the lessons and coaching that are relevant to their orientation and interest.

Which extracurricular activities are organized in your college to enhance the skills of students?

"We regularly organize cultural activities, sports and technical events and placement specific training programs"

Our college has established an amazing sports infrastructure and we also have separate clubs for social activities, sports, technical and non-technical events and activities. Hence we regularly organize sports events, cultural fests, technical and non-technical competitions and events to give a platform to our students to help them showcase their skills. In addition to this, we provide hands-on training sessions and skill development programs to them to enhance their technical skills. The Placement Cell of our college also organizes various placement oriented training and activities and we have signed MOUs with reputed industries and outsourcing companies for students benefits and preparing them for the industrial world. 

What challenges have you faced in uplifting the education quality of your college?

"Arranging relevant training programs for faculty, staff members and students was a real challenge for us"

Although we faced many hurdles in improving the education quality of our college, the most prominent roadblock for us was the proper training of our faculty members in latest and industry oriented technologies. And making faculties adaptable to newer changes of the outside world was another hurdle for us. In addition to this, we also struggled while educating our other staff members and students as per market standards. But we have confronted most of the challenges and are steadily progressing to achieve our goals.

When you joined Dr. RV Arts and Science College, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve the same?

"My aim was to offer best quality education and job opportunities to students"

When I joined Dr. R. V. Arts and Science College as a Teacher, my vision was to provide good education and 100% placement opportunities to our students and to make my vision true, I am working rigorously in the same direction with the support of my amazing colleagues and management.

How does your college enhance faculties skills and prepare them as per industry standards?

"Faculties upskills themselves through FDPs, seminars, technical and non-technical learning events"

All the faculty members of our college are highly qualified and experienced, but with changing educational trends and industrial expectations they need to upskill themselves so that they can deliver best to students. Hence we regularly participate in Faculty Development Programs, several technical and non-technical functions and seminars. In addition to this, we regularly visit other colleges and universities to analyze and observe the things and facilities which we should provide or improve in our college. Last but not the least, we attend a wide variety of online and off-campus classes in other colleges to develop our skills and knowledge as per development and requirements of the industrial and educational sector. 

What valuable advice would you like to give to the students for a prosperous career ahead?

"Analyze your strength and passion and pursue courses which suits your interest"

I would like to advise my students to figure out their own reasons why they are studying or pursuing a particular course and they should not do things just to follow their friends or in their parents pressure. Do a proper analysis about your background knowledge and identify your own path, critically analyze the subjects you are studying currently and find out the areas where you need to give more focus. Also observe the trends of the outside competitive world to decide where you stand and which course or Degree program is best suited for your skills and passion. Lastly, live your life to the fullest and make best use of your time and resources available to you.
