Done and dusted with the MBA entrance process. NMIMS Mumbai it is! Heart filled with joy and mind with anxiety. This is how I came to Mumbai. Little did I know what was in store for me.

If you have heard that MBA is challenging. It’s true. Heard MBA makes you sleep-deprived? That’s also true. But what makes it exciting is the kind of activities that go around in college and of course, the people sailing on the same boat as yours. Yes, it is hard to bond with your peers on day one, but NMIMS seems to have cracked just the right code by implementing an amazingly designed ‘Orientation week’. From attending a motivating speech by Mr. Sunil Buch (the CEO of ZEE Live and Talent) to climbing up ropes in a distant resort and traveling all over Mumbai for a treasure hunt, we all grew familiar and comfortable with one another during this time. Truly, an ice breaker.

While this part was all about the fun, NMIMS also makes sure that all the students who enrol for the course are on a level playing field, irrespective of their educational background. This is smartly done by incorporating the mandatory HBS modules as a pre-requisite to the MBA course.

Then begin the classes! Very different from the ones in engineering. Here, you put to use all the theory learned by solving case studies. The pedagogy followed here, helps you push yourself to be more creative and innovative.

Just when the monotony starts to crawl in, comes the first event of the season ‘Manan’- A cultural event for the first-year students to showcase their talent. Participating in this was one of the best experiences I’ve had in college. It not only puts people of similar talent together but also helps identify people that one is most compatible working with. The D-day came, many performed, some won, but all left the hall room, rejuvenated.

Till date, what I have understood about MBA here, is that nothing will happen as per your pre-plan. It’s ad-hoc planning that works. You need to adapt to whatever situations come through and guess who is going to be just-around-the-corner to help you with it? Your peers and more importantly, your seniors. Network well, not because the course demands so, but because it is actually helpful.

A lot goes on here. Grab every opportunity that comes through and make the most of it and of course, have every bit of fun that you can have.

Whilst writing this article, I am also making a to-do list for tomorrow because that is what MBA demands from you- to become a better manager every day!
