The joy of giving back to the society of what I have gained over years in the academics

Initially 13 years of my career were spent in the industry. Thereafter I switched to training and full-time teaching. I found my true place, my true worth and satisfaction in whole time academics. The joy of giving back to the society of what I have gained over years which know no bounds. The connection with the education world happens productively, as it provides an opportunity for constant learning and transfer of those learning’s to the students, who happen to be the future of the country, and this act is truly fulfilling. You also keep on learning new concepts and teachings that help you to grow as a better person. The true treasure of this profession is received when a student who meets after 20 years and says, “Sir, what you taught us in class has helped us at each stage of our life; we remain highly indebted for helping us shape our career in the right direction”. You don’t find this pleasure and honour in any other profession, and it is far beyond any monetary reward.

I believe that the true resource of any organization is its employees

I believe that the true resource of any organization is its employees. They need to be cherished, honoured, involved, appreciated, developed and motivated. This belief helps me to find the positive side in each individual and then combine those positives to obtain a synergistic effect for the organization. This style has also helped me get unflinching support and trust of all my faculty members who take up the ownership for their tasks and as a result achieve a performance par excellence.

We identify gaps prevalent in the existing curriculum and work on the same

Being an Institute affiliated to University, the course curriculum is largely governed by the affiliating University. However, we at SMS identify the gaps that happen to be the demands of the industry and also those which help students to develop their personality as responsible citizens. Thus going beyond the University led curriculum. We have developed our in-house curriculum titled as “Employability Enhancement Program” which is in-built as a part of the teaching-learning process within each year of all the programs offered at the campus and conducted by professional trainers. Besides there are several value add courses offered to the students that help the students in their corporate careers. School of Management Sciences has a nodal centre of CISCO and offers certifications on Networking. We also have a Centre for “Cambridge Assessment English”. The IIT Remote Centre (one of the first in Uttar Pradesh) offers various certification courses time and again which are required by the Industry and helps the students to become more industry ready for the jobs of tomorrow.

We treat each student equally irrespective of their background

School of Management Sciences, Lucknow has students from various parts of the country. The students are from rich, poor, urban, rural, and varied religious and cultural backgrounds. They all study together without any differential treatment, which was also the system that prevailed in the “Gurukuls” of yester years. Thus, School of Management Sciences, Lucknow teaches the students to live in harmony despite all the differences and it happens to be a true melting pot for them.

I make sure to set-up policies for the attainment of the goals to make the Institute a preferred place to study

My role happens to be of a guide, providing vision and direction of functioning to the entire Institute. My responsibilities include setting up policies for the attainment of the goals to make the Institute a preferred place to study for the students. I foresee my role as the anchor person to churn out students who are not only rightfully fit for the industry but also that they become responsible contributing citizens of India.

We bring in the parameters of qualitative teaching and learning in the institution

Top priority for School of Management Sciences, Lucknow should be to focus on all parameters of quality, achieve a national ranking, and get ‘A’ Grade accreditation. The Institute must also diversify in Liberal Arts and achieve an Autonomous status. This is also the direction that has been spelt out in the New Education Policy 2020.

The institutes offering value added quality education will be fit for survival in the long-run

Higher Education in the country is in a state of turmoil. There are some major changes that will transform this area under the New Education Policy 2020. The Covid -19 pandemic has also unleashed some changes that will transform the scene of Higher Education not only in India but globally. E-learning will find a permanent place in Higher Education along with the brick and mortar model. Survival and then revival are the suggested strategies at this stage. Those Institutes offering quality education will survive and focus on quality is the mantra for a couple of years ahead. Thereafter transformational changes will have to be implemented to take the Institute towards a growth trajectory. For School of Management Sciences, the focus has to be to attain a status of an Autonomous Institute and then get into the foray to go global.

I always tell the students to carry a dream and spell out their own goals in life

I always tell the students to carry a dream and spell out their own goals in life. Based on those goals choose your area of study for the future and then choose the Institute or University that best offers the facilities and opportunities where you can carve out the path which will lead you towards your goals. Don’t be misled by others, listen to your conscience and work to achieve your goals with full passion and hard work. Success will follow.
