Dr. Christo Selvan has been working as the Dean of School of Commerce at St Joseph's College, Bangalore, Karnataka. He has an amazing 20 years of teaching experience in the discipline of Commerce and Management at various colleges and universities in India and Malaysia. He completed his studies at Coimbatore and started his teaching from SNR Sons College and then joined Linton University College followed by Nilai University, Malaysia. He has published research articles in various Clarivate and Scopus indexed journals, peer-reviewed Journals and conferences proceedings. He is also a reviewer for various international research journals including Elsevier, InterScience, JETIR, Symbiosis and many more. In addition to this, he is an active member of the Indian Commerce Association and Board of Study at Bangalore City University, Indian Academy College, Karunya University etc. In the year 2018, he organized an international conference in Malaysia with Sunway University of Malaysia and Victoria University of Australia. Apart from this, he has organized various international conferences, workshops and seminars and started many degree programs, certificate courses, PG Diploma, and Research Certificate Programs for Undergraduate students. He is also fostering academic and research collaborations with foreign universities and has signed MoU with ACCA and ISDC of the United Kingdom, Sunway University of Malaysia, EDEX of New Zealand, IMA CMA of United States, Wiley and UK etc. His research areas include Accounting and Human Resource Management and he is specialized in International Financial Reporting Standards and Financial Accounting. He was also the external PhD examiner for various colleges and universities between 2012 - 2015, has worked as an Auditor to audit Commerce and Management Semester Examination Question papers for several esteemed institutions.
What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
"My passion of educating students have kept me connected with this field"
I always had the passion of learning and sharing my knowledge with the students and young generation of our society. And my passion for upgrading my skills and knowledge keeps me young, alive and more creative. Also, I am determined to make a difference in the value based education, teaching pedagogy, student engagement, so these factors together I believe have kept me associated with the education sector.
Which latest program are you offering in your institute to help students stand apart from the crowd?
"We are providing B. Com and BBA course to students at the UG level"
We are offering B.Com in International Accounting and Finance and BBA in Strategic Finance at Undergraduate level. And students are performing well in their professional examinations like ACCA, CMA and US. Also, in the academic year of 2021-2022, 175+ students of our School of Business secured jobs in reputed companies like Bayer, ICICI, Federal Bank, Morgan Stanley, LOWEs, Natwest Group, Northern Trust, RazorPay, The DE Shaw Group, Genpact and many others.
How does the diversity of your college help students to grow?

Our University vision is to produce the best professionals and leaders. I firmly believe in the Transformational kind of Leadership as it inspires me to bring a positive change in students and youths life and make the social system more stable. Transformational leadership motivates leaders to set an example that promotes better understanding between team members by defining clear targets and positive work environment.
What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students?
"Learning events and guiding sessions are arranged for students as and when required"
We regularly guide and mentor our students in order to make them understand various aspects of life. And we also arrange programs and events to stimulate leadership skills in students. Also, it's mandatory for each student to participate in group activities so that they can explore each other's culture and grow together.
Which best practices are offered by your department to the students to help them gain necessary skills?
"We have integrated international level curriculum and corporate resources to educate students"
We are using the Examiner which is actually an open source software available for educators to create and conduct online tests and examinations and evaluate student performance. So this makes it easy for students to track their progress from remote locations. Along with this, we have integrated international level curriculum and industry resources in our regular degrees courses for the benefit of our students. And it's mandatory for students to do internships to get real life skills which will be also useful for them while working in the corporate sector. We also conduct Professional and Organizational Development sessions for teaching fertainity and the Professional Interface Forum is established to enable students to remain in continuous touch with the industry and business executives through interaction at frequent intervals, so that they can imbibe corporate culture and norms followed there.
How do you guide and prepare your students to deal and survive in such a competitive world?
"They are trained through mentoring sessions, seminars, workshops and certification courses"
We develop the curriculum of various subjects after consulting with industry leaders and experts, our Alumni, management people and from academicians of other colleges and universities. Also, we regularly organize events and activities like mentoring sessions, free inhouse seminars and workshops where we invite people from the corporate world to educate our students on various technologies. In addition to this, we offer certification courses and guide them before every interview so that they can perform well during the actual interview process. Lastly, we address and resolve their academic and non-academic issues and queries on time and that's how we prepare them for the outside competitive world.
What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?
"We should upgrade the education pedagogies and practices of our college"
I firmly believe that we should work to enhance the education quality of our college and also upgrade the quality of amenities and research facilities which we would provide to our students. Also, we should work to enhance our presence among our future potential students.
Till date, what highest and average package has been offered by the recruiting companies to your students?
"Highest package was between 21.5-23 LPA and average was between 7-9 LPA"
Our students have received the highest package of 21.5- 23 LPA while the average package which some other students received was 7-9 LPA.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?
"Follow your passion, acquire real time skills and have a curious attitude"
I would advise my dear students and youths of our society to follow their passion. Study hard and earn real skills for life and not only for Jobs. Also, set an example for others and do not walk on other shoulders. Be curious about everything you learn and learn not to fear failures, because your honest investment on life, time and education will bring you best results.
