No matter whether you study inboth programs. It entirely depends on your interest in the subject. If you are interested in agriculture or in the food sector then think nothing and go for the FABM program but if you are not interested in this field then you can go with the general PGP program at IIM Indore or Kozhikode.

Which is the best university for an MBA, Stanford University, Harvard University or IIM Ahmedabad?

PG
Priyaank Gupta Posted On : July 17th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (2016)

IIM Ahmedabad is, in no way comparable to universities like Stanford and Harvard by any means. The points below give sufficient reasons that prove the fact that these state universities are way ahead of IIM Ahmedabad.

  • IIM is not a university, but an institute providing only management degrees and diploma courses in different specializations. But, Stanford and Harvard are universities that provide courses in almost all streams and subjects.
  • IIM Ahmedabad is not listed among the top management schools around the world. But, Harvard Business School and Stanford Graduate School of Business have consistently been the top management schools in the world for many years.
  • There are many eminent personalities who, even after having the IIM tag, went to foreign universities for further studies for international recognition. For example, Raghuram Rajan. He went to Sloan School of Management, MIT for a Ph.D., after having an MBA degree from IIM Ahmedabad.

For an Indian, IIM Ahmedabad is always the best management school. But for having international recognition, there are many universities across the world that are way ahead of IIMs in terms of studies, placement, opportunities, etc.

How would you rank the following business schools, ISB, IIM A, B, C, L, XLRI, FMS, and SPJIMR?

AG

The ranking order of these B-Schools is as follows.

IIM A > IIM B > IIM C > IIM L > XLRI > FMS > SPJIMR > ISB.

This ranking order is based on various parameters like academics, faculty, alumni base, location, ROI, brand value, batch size, etc. Although this is a general ranking. For certain specialization or some specific factor, the ranking will be different. For example, if we talk about HR specialization, XLRI will be ranked above all the other colleges. XLRI HRM is the best Human Resource Management program in the Asia Pacific region.

Yes, it is possible to get a job at McKinsey, Bain, BCG, or A.T.Kearney. You can apply directly through their website or referrals. If you are applying for a job in these companies go through the hiring rules thoroughly.

There is a waiting period of 24 months for two attempts at the recruitment process in McKinsey. The hiring procedure is similar to campus recruitment. You will have to go through case-type interviews. Based on the availability of the role, McKinsey conducts recruitment once or twice a year.

Will you recommend studying from IIM Ahmedabad (PGPM) for 2 years at the age of 32?

AH
Aditi Handax Posted On : July 13th, 2021
Studied at Amity University Noida (2019)

Yes, definitely you can go for it. One of my cousins did something similar and she highly recommends it because of the following reasons:

  • PGPM is a course made especially for experienced professionals, it’s not just a postgraduate course. Hence, it requires people who have good experience in their profession.
  • Your profile will be on a different level after doing PGPM and certainly, you can get a senior executive position.
  • There is a high chance that your connection with the corporates will increase with the help of alumni networks.
Categories PGP in Management at IIM Ahmedabad
Course Fee 23 lakhs
Highest CTC 80 LPA
Average CTC 21-35 LPA
Recruiting Companies Nestle, Godrej, KPMG, Yves Saint Laurent, etc.

Though the course is not really based on theories, it could be easier to manage the studies. As the transition from work to academics could take some time. Otherwise, there are no major problems.

How do I get into IIM Ahmedabad if my 10th class score is 78% and my 12th class score is 55%?

AS
Atanu Sanyal Posted On : July 13th, 2021

In order to get selected at IIM Ahmedabad, you must have a strong academic record because the institute gives high weightage to past academic records during its shortlisting process. It is even hard if you belong to the general category.

You should not lose hope as there are numerous other top b-schools that give less weightage to past academic records and more to CAT score and GDPI. So, your selection will not be much affected by it.

If you get a call from IIM Ahmedabad, you can give your best to impress the panelists during the interview but, even then your chances of converting will be slim or next to impossible. This is because your 12th standard marks are very low according to the bars set by IIM Ahmedabad.

There are top institutions such as the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi which gives more importance to CAT score and less weightage to past academic records. Targeting such institutions will be good for you.

What all things should I achieve or know (including social skills, academics, hobbies, certificate courses and whatever required) to confirm my admission in any of the IIM or particularly IIM Ahmedabad?

AR
Anshul Rajput Posted On : March 30th, 2021
MDI Gurgaon PGPM 2020

IIMs generally look for a complete package in every applicant’s profile. They have quite an extensive and detailed process for the applicant and there are three primary stages that you are looking at.

First stage- Preliminary stage: This is the minimum eligibility for every applicant. The eligibility is 90% CAT score, with an 85% percentile in each section for most of the top colleges.

GD-PI Call Stage: All institutes and colleges follow different parameters in all proportions. Mostly they consider the following parameters with different proportions.

  • CAT Score
  • Past Academics (10th, 12th, and Graduation)
  • Work Experience
  • Diversity

Admission Offer: This is the last and final step after the successful completion of the GD-PI stage. This really tests you as it puts your personality and characteristics traits to test.

You will have to pay attention to the following three sections too while completing your duration at IIM Ahmedabad.

Academics: A minimum of two subjects is important to be made thorough while you are at IIM Ahmedabad.

Social Skills: Although almost all the interviews depend on the interviewer, it would be fair to say that it helps to be gentle and firm at the same time.

Certificates: Having additional certificates will be a big-time value addition to your professional side. Since most of the aspirants will have good CAT scores and academic records.

Apart from the CAT preparation that you are doing, it is important that you start paying attention to build your profile beforehand.

Which would be a better choice for a one-year MBA in India, IIM Bangalore (EPGP), IIM Ahmedabad (PGPX), or ISB(PGP)?

AD
Akshita Debnath Posted On : July 21st, 2022

ISB PGP is the best choice among these. Simply because it is the flagship program of ISB.  Here are some reasons why you should consider ISB PGP.

  • ISB has an international outlook regarding academics. Most of the faculty members are alumni of international institutes like Wharton, MIT, NYU, etc. The institute has student exchange programs as well.
  • ISB boasts of state-of-the-art facilities. Students are offered living accommodations, and access to the sports complex, swimming pool, and other such facilities.
  • It’s true that ISB’s huge batch size increases the competition during placement. But it also offers an excellent peer-learning experience.
  • ISB placements offer good consulting job profiles. If you want to join a consulting firm after graduation, ISB is an excellent option. During 2021 placement drive, most of the job offers were in Consulting profiles - 34%. The CTC offered is in the range of INR 21 LPA to INR 37 LPA.

Note that ISB doesn’t have a fully functional incubation center. So, post-MBA, if you want to pursue entrepreneurship, check the IIMA, or IIMB programs.
