Thapar University(Patiala): What should I do if I am not liking my college life?

AS
Arnav Singh Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

If you are not liking your college life currently, there are a few options you can explore. These could include any of the following:

  • Look out for research options. See what your faculty is working on. This may get you interested in something.
  • Summer internships are also quite popular at universities abroad. Choose a subject you like and do a semester abroad if you are interested in that.
  • If you want to enjoy your college life, you will have to break the ice with members of different clubs. Nox is a good dance club you can think of joining.
  • Get in touch with your seniors and super seniors and see what they did during their time as a student. Maybe that should help.
  • If you are not that interested in studying, you should consider that option only if you want to do something completely different from engineering.

You should find your calling and pursue it. This will help you truly enjoy your college life and you will not regret your decision.

Thapar University(Patiala): How is the life in Hostel C?

KS
Krishna Srivastav Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

I have a friend who attends Thapar and here is his insight about hostel C. Hostel C is one of the top choices for students to move into. Life here is much better in comparison to the other hostels. Here are some of the points for you to consider.

  • Mess: The mess serves decent food. You may not like the dal and rice sometimes and the Chinese food is not that great either. But, the gulab jamun, chocolate, and custard are some of the things that are very tasty.
  • Bathrooms: The bathrooms are pretty clean usually except during the monsoons. You might find a few frogs in there, sometimes when it rains. Sometimes, the good showers could be occupied and there could be a tussle for the same. They have also installed new washing machines for you to do your laundry.
  • Rooms: The rooms are designed for three people. The ceilings are high enough for summer to be bearable and there is good ventilation. Not many students install coolers during the summer unlike in other hostels.
  • Internet: The internet speed is about 250 to 400 kbps. It is quite consistent and this should suffice for you to do most of your work. If not WiFi you can even try a LAN cable. That should help as well.

Hostel C definitely offers a better experience as compared to the other hostels. You are good to go with hostel C, it has a good balance of everything and you will not face that many issues here.

What are the B.Tech timings at Thapar University?

RB
Rishabh Bimbraw Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2019)

The college hours are mostly 8 am to 5 pm. But the timing depends on the schedule of the batch. The new batches have some additional subjects which are held and these often go up till 6 or 7 pm. The batches with electives may be held after 5 pm.

You will get an hour or two for lunch breaks in between when classes run till late. But this schedule is not regular as some days, the classes may be from 8 am-1 pm or 10 am-3 pm, thus it all depends on their class schedule. If the student needs to go out of campus, they must report back to the campus before 7 pm.

Can a student sit in placement session after getting placed in other company at Thapar University?

AS
Ayesha Kumari Seth Posted On : August 6th, 2021
Studies Mechanical Engineering at Thapar University (2021)

I have a friend who recently graduated from Thapar University and he gave me some insight regarding the placement procedure at the institute.

Whether you will be able to sit in a placement session for a company after being selected in another company, depends on various parameters. This means the companies that visit Thapar University can be divided into 3 separate categories. Which are as follows.

  • Category 1: Offers more than INR 4 LPA.
  • Category 2: Offers either more than INR 4 LPA or less than INR 8 LPA.
  • Category 3: Offers more than INR 8 LPA.

If you are placed in category 2, then you cannot sit for the interview session conducted for category 1. However, you still have the option open to sit for the interview session held in category 3.

To add more, there are certain companies that are rated as “Dream Companies”. If a student is placed in that particular “Dream Company”, then he or she might not be able to sit for any other placement session held in either category.

How is the mechatronics branch of Thapar University?

GS
Gargi Sharma Posted On : August 10th, 2021
B.E. Computer Science, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2021)

The branch is new to the university but your scope in it will be really good. It is a blend of mechanical, electronics and control, software, and computer engineering.

According to the latest trends, this will be a really good combination for the latest job requirements. As a student, you will get to learn concepts on control, design, and analysis. Basically, as a mechatronics graduate, you will be a master of many domains. This is surely a major plus point and you will be able to use these skills for research purposes.

Just ensure that you will work hard since there is a lot of wide scope for post-graduation. This is mainly true for universities abroad. The placements are good too.
