There is a misconception that Thapar University accepts the donation and admits students through donation because it is a private University. I have a friend studying at Thapar University and it’s not true. 

Thapar Institute of Engineering And Technology or commonly known as Thapar University is a private institute but it does not accept donations from students for their admission. There are several quotas through which one can get admission in TIET - Thapar Institute of Engineering And Technology. These include sports quota, Punjab state quota, etc. 

They also maintain the admission process transparently. Hope this clears your doubts. 

Yes, according to my preferences a computer science and engineering course at Thapar University is definitely worth it. One of my friends studied there, and here are some things I got to know from him. He was recruited via on-campus placement by Oracle for a prominent job role at the corporation. 

• The University provides you with a relaxed course scheme and many skilled and experienced faculty members. 
• The placement scenario at the university is also good. If you maintain a CGPA of around 7.5, there is a very high probability for you to get recruited on-campus.

The major recruiting firms that visit the campus of the university for recruitment almost every year include IBM, Oracle, Wipro, D.E. Shaw, Microsoft, TCS, and Infosys. 

Merit Scholarships at Thapar University are divided among three categories. You fall under the first category.

Board marks are considered an eligibility criterion. Scholarships are approved on the basis of JEE Mains marks. Students need to acquire board marks of 95% and above. Based on your obtained marks you would be eligible for the tuition fee + development fee waiver. You would be required to pay for hostel, mess, examination, etc.

You need to maintain a CGPA of 8.5 and above without any backlog in order to continue the scholarship for the years to come until your graduation. A total of 25 students are provided with the scholarship based on their JEE marks.

CSE at JIIT is clearly better than ECE at Thapar. You must have a minimum JEE rank of 51,000 to get CSE at JIIT Noida. 

There are no state quota, caste quota, or NRI quota at JIIT but Thapar offers a 50% quota for Punjab state students. This results in a superior quality of students at JIIT Noida than Thapar. Due to quotas and an increase in the number of seats, anyone can get admission at Thapar University.

If a student has a 300,000 rank in JEE Main, he will not be able to gain a seat anywhere, but if he is from Punjab, he may be able to secure a place in Electrical Engineering in Thapar. This explains how Thapar's situation has deteriorated.

JIIT will offer you great exposure which is actually required in CSE with regular industrial visits. CSE has more scope in terms of placements than ECE. 

It would be advisable to choose the branch as per your interest first. And then if you figure out that you have an interest in civil engineering, you should go to Thapar. On the other hand, if you have an interest in computer science then you should go to Jaypee Noida. 

• Thapar University and Jaypee Noida are both good. 
• The main thing to be concerned about is your interest in the stream. 
• Both the colleges are very reputed but Thapar has a slight edge over Jaypee. 
• The placement record for Jaypee for the past year has not been as good as compared to the previous year‘s records. 
• But if you compare Thapar’s civil and Jaypee’s CS, then you should opt for CS at Jaypee.

Being a student of Jaypee myself, I can say that Thapar’s placement records are better, especially recently.

Every college has its share of merits and demerits. That being said, the exposure that Thapar provides its students is arguably enviable. Thapar also boasts of offering its students an unparalleled college life, curriculum, and last but not the least, placements. The placement average has stayed above 90% for the last 6 years. According to the recent placement highlights the highest CTC offered at the institute is 43 LPA.

BITS Goa, on the other hand, is also quite popular. You will reap the benefits if you are diligent enough. The location has a significant part to play.

Comparably, Thapar is a better institute than BITS Goa.

For CSE, NIT Uttarakhand is a decent option. Given below is a brief review of NIT Uttarakhand.

Criticism:

• NIT Uttarakhand is in a remote place, away from the city. So if you are not used to living an isolated life, it will be difficult for you to adjust. Even traveling to Srinagar Garhwal will be difficult.
• The infrastructure of the college is not that great to appease you. It will feel dismaying. It is improving gradually.

Brownie Points:

• NIT is a brand. It has special importance and value to the nation. The CSE branch is always advancing and can add special talents to the industry. In this institute too, there are many talented students.
• The faculty of the institute is from renowned institutes like IITs/NITs. The professors are highly qualified and teach students proficiently on-line with the GATE syllabus.
• Students are from diverse backgrounds. They are not just from Uttarakhand, but also all other states.
• The placements of the CSE branch are elevating every year. Different recruiters give different offers to students. The recent placement statistics of the institute is as follows.

• Many companies give internship opportunities with PPOs to the students too.

No matter how much the infrastructure lacks, the students get rewarded in the future if they work hard. Currently, IIIT Ranchi and Thapar may have better infrastructure or even placement records, but NIT Uttarakhand is improving with time and will definitely improve a lot in coming years.
